Yes, it's official! Ubisoft's long-awaited pirate game Skull & Bones will be starting its journey on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S (there's no Xbox One version, sorry!) on November 8th, 2022.
In the game, your goal will be to "rise from an outcast to an infamous pirate", playing alone or with up to two friends in either a PvE-only or a PvEvP experience. Described as "the ultimate pirate fantasy", you'll be growing your infamy by completing contracts to gather more resources and opportunities, crafting up to 12 ships and customising them in a variety of ways, and engaging in brutal naval combat with a multitude of powerful weapons and armours.
The game is available to pre-order on Xbox from today, with the standard version available for £69.99 / $69.99, and the Premium Edition at £94.99 / $99.99. The latter contains a bonus pack, two extra missions and more.
- Skull & Bones (Xbox Store) - £69.99 / $69.99
- Skull & Bones Premium Edition (Xbox Store) - £94.99 / $99.99

I will believe when it happens. This game is going to be a dumpster fire.
@Kaloudz there's no Combat on land. Its basically MMO. Heavily inspired by Sea of Thieves.
They really missed the mark here. This could have been an amazing single player game, with optional pvp modes. Instead it will just be another dull live service grind fest. Expect it to be $19.99 within 3 months.
I’ll play One Piece Odyssey instead.
@Chaudy Which is weird because Sea of Thieves has a ton on land combat.
That is more expensive than I thought I'd be but it is Ubisoft I guess
This looks, and I can't stress this enough, shiiiiiiiiiite.
I get sea sick 🤒 so that’s me out 😂
I'm not sure if I'm more surprised by the fact this looks even more directionless and generic than I even cyncially thought it would, or that Ubisoft has now joined in the $70 game bandwagon right at the onset of an inflation spiral while it's main competition is more established, full featured, and is permanently on Game Pass.
Honestly I think they're just trying to get a few thousand bucks from the most uninformed consumers to recoup something from their doomed vaporware investment into the game.
What's the point of a $70 price tag when it'll be $35 in a month? The industry just keeps trying to squeeze more and more blood from a stone in the form of whales at this point, and it's getting so obvious it hears. Launch isn't a new product for an RRP, it's a pre-release at a premium for the impatient.
@SplooshDmg Nintendo fans. That's the only exception. Even PS fans have Plus Extra now...there's really no excuse for anyone but spoiled rich boys, those with lack of impulse control (being exploited for it), or Nintendo fans (who have no choice in the matter), to keep paying full price at launch for games. I love E3, I love the hype cycle, I love following the big new games coming out. But I still have the ones I pre-ordered for launch day in 2017 sitting incomplete.
I legit preordered P5 Take Your Heart Edition with the plush Morgana....and it is STILL sitting in shrink wrap. Since then they announced P5R which I figured there's no point spending 100 hours playing P5 when a more complete version is coming, so I waited months for that. Got smart and bought it months later on the first $45 sale.
I still have not played it. And a remaster is coming.
So I will play it on Game Pass....and could have saved like $120.
I still haven't finished Horizon Zero Dawn, and HFW is out. I still haven't finished GoW18 and GoWR is coming (though part of that is because I played for a while and it started boring me to tears and I put it down. I do want to finish it and play GoWR, but.....someday.
I think I'm good waiting for like $40-45 for games. I think that's the sweet spot for me justifying most of them. And most don't drop to $30, ever, or for many years. But for more than $45 I must be so absolutely into the game in the extreme to pay that much at this point. I'll probably get Live a Live at launch because it's a reduced price to begin with. But...I'm kinda getting deep into TCS again so maybe it can wait and maybe will hit a sale in the meantime.
Splatoon 3 is Day one though. Gotta stay fresh in my only online game And TESVI would be day 1 if GP did not exist. And if I were still alive when it launched, which I rank as about as likely as Jim Ryan playing Halo while sober.
I think I’ll start playing sea of thrives on November 8th and get this game on a deep sale.
@SplooshDmg I think you mean exotic publisher Japanese games on Steam approach $30. Not major games on console 30 seems rare and reserved for 3+ year old games. Except Ubisoft. I give it 45 days.
At least is way better than Sea of Thieves in the single player department, Skull and Bones looks great to play solo while in Sea of Thieves it's impossible to play like that.
@SplooshDmg some people like to buy games day one, others like to wait for discounts or gamepass, it's their money. Besides what's better? Buying a 70 dollar game to play it on release date or buying 5 15 dollars games that are going to live forever on your backlog?
This year I bought The Quarry, Switch Sports and Elden Ring day one. I already have pre-ordered digitally Pokemon Violet and Callisto Protocol while I'm waiting to pre-order the Devil In Me on october too. That's only 6 games on an entire year. Is not like everyone buys any new game that releases.
Skull and Barebones
@SplooshDmg Ahh physical. Yeah that makes a little more sense. I went all digital because the trend was deeper sales. And because the mountains of falling game boxes warehoused we're too much. But then this gen physical seems cheaper even for older games which makes no sense.
I didn’t think it was possible for me to care less about this game, then I watched this video. I’ll stick with Sea of Thieves, thanks.
Lame! Sounds like my motto for this gen is going to be "wait for a sale" if this is the pricing scheme they're going forward with. Especially considering the way these games often release unfinished and incomplete, needing months, sometimes years of extensive patching to get them where they should be.
@SplooshDmg Blame Randy "Where's My Thumb Drive" Pitchford for that one.
Also physical games on XB kill the series S usefulness...
@JayJ Ubisoft Forward!
Online service based??? Yeah I'm gonna pass and stick to playing black flag on my switch.
..That is a hard pass.
Yeah, I'll play this
After all this time it looks like a slightly shinier Black Flag with worse combat and half the fun removed? What a huge dissapointment.
I think ubi are releasing all the old AC games on psplus this month, so ill just replay Black Flag - at least I'll get sea shanties!
I usually like Ubisoft games, but this one is bound to sink before it will sail...
Although I am not interested in playing an online game, I feel the comments here are being a bit overly negative about the game.
From the videos I saw, the game seems like an interesting mix of Assassins Creed Black Flag and AC Valhalla in the feature set. They said that all the content can also be experienced solo. I kinda hope there is an offline mode. If there is some offline mode, then I'm very likely going to play this eventually, whenever it hits a sale or something.
Remember how awful Sea of Thieves was at launch? This game already looks like a better state than that so maybe it will be great. The ship combat looks much better. My only concern is amount and quality of content.
I love that one person controls each ship. I hate how Sea of Thieves pretty much forces you play with a full crew at all times.
Considering how poorly they did with Valhalla, for me with bugs that broke the game that wouldn't allow me to finish the main story. Then Riders Republic where the number 1 issue at launch was collision mechanics and a broken rewind feature, that are still broken and the developers don't even bring it up anymore meaning the brokenness of the game is now a feature.
That being said it's going to take a long time for Ubisoft to earn my trust to the point of considering another game from them.
I was hoping this would be Black Flag 2 by another name, allowing the pirate game to shine without being beholden to the AC franchise. I think that's what everyone was expecting after the initial delay.
