Xbox Series X|S / Xbox One
Calico (August 1-31)
Calico is a day-in-the-life community sim game where you are given an important and adorable task: rebuild the town’s cat café and fill it with cute and cuddly creatures!
You will journey to a small village filled with magical girls and other fantastical friends, where you are placed in charge of a run down cat café. Build up your café by filling it with cute furniture, fun decorations, yummy pastries, and get it bustling with animals again!
ScourgeBringer (August 16 - September 15):
From the developers of NeuroVoider, ScourgeBringer is a fast-paced free-moving roguelite platformer, much like a crossbreed between Dead Cells and Celeste.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious entity wreaked havoc on all humanity, ScourgeBringer puts you in the shoes of the deadliest warrior of her clan: Kyhra. Help her to explore the unknown and slash her way through ancient machines guarding the seal of her past, and maybe the redemption of humanity.
Xbox 360 / Original Xbox
Saints Row 2 (August 1-15):
Help the 3rd Streets take back their city in this explosive sequal to the 2006 hit. Saints Row 2 features unparalleled character creation and customization; a massive open world to explore by land, air or sea; and online co-op play that enables you and a friend play through the entire story of Saints Row 2.
Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine (August 16-31):
Assemble a crack team of thieves and execute the perfect crime. Sneak, steal, and run for your lives in single player or with up to four friends in local or online co-op. Find out why it won the 2010 IGF Grand Prize and has been described by Rev3Games' Anthony Carboni as "quite possible the best co-op ever."

saints row, cool
I already have SR2 I think but the X1 games look fine. It won't shock me when MS sunsets this by the time they'd be forced to add XS games to the program.
Calico seems interesting, though.
I know this isn’t a good lineup for most but I’ve been eying Calico for months. So I’m really happy.
@IronMan30 MS has already announced they're discontinuing the Xbox 360 games (which have always been permanently owned once you claim them). Once they do that, there will be literally zero difference between GwG games and the games in Game Pass, since you lose access to them if your sub lapses. It's just the first step in GwG going away entirely, or more likely, XBL Gold either dissolving or getting merged into Game Pass.
My prediction is this: Discord will take over party chat, and the Gold requirement for playing online will be removed. Game Pass will take over for the monthly games.
Calico and Saints Row 2.
Yes and yes.
Will try the other 2.
@XxEvilAshxX right, that's pretty much the direction it seems like they're going.
ScourgeBringer looks fun, and my wife might enjoy Calico 😂 Pretty indifferent to the 360 games.
Why not Saints Row 1!? We got Saints Row 2 not too long ago! Honestly good riddance to 360 GwG since they're still pulling this crap.
this looks like a nice selection of a couple popular games, and some more obscure. Had a lot of fun with SR2 back in the day.
A mixed bag but better than usual
Don't sleep on Monaco - A delightful little crime caper with an Austin Wintory (Journey, The Pathless, AC: Syndicate) soundtrack.
Metacritic scores
EDIT: It's worth noting two are repeats. Monaco and Saints Row 2
It's a little ironic that Microsoft are the ones buys Activision but this month ps plus has had crash 4 & next month will get tony hawk's Pro skater 1&2
Can only stream it on PS5 so might dl on Xbox to give Saints Row 2 another bash. Best game in the series imo.
Seriously another repeat
man o man . why even bother?
This is just embarrassing at this point, and a direct comparison with ps plus essential (which is directly comparable) shows just how awful gwg is.
There is no defence for this, its ms sticking its fingers up at us.
I cant believe they are dropping the ball this badly just when their rival launches a rebrand and people are clearly going to be comparing....
If they are merging gwg into GP, then they should have already done it to avoid such unwelcome comparrisons
Nice little selection, will give them all ago.
@Cherip-the-Ripper Expect repeats every month until October. Then they'll kill off BC and only do Xbone/Series games.
That must be a joke …
Wow, this might be an all new low. SR2 is cool and all for a few bucks, but they could at least TRY to pretend this offers value.
@UnusedBabyWipes I'm glad they finally decided to put em to a stop but I still can't help but be disappointed.
Rather have a used babywipe
I would've preferred sr1 as well, initially thought it was cause of the thumbnail on the article but I mistook the two games.
I always wanted to try Monaco, but It never reach playstation shores, so, this line up makes me happy
Calico and Monaco are nice. I pay my sub in reward points.
Actually a decent lineup. Looking forward to trying Saints Row 2 and Calico.
"I want to play Stray!"
"We have Stray at home"
Stray at home: Calico
@Cherip-the-Ripper Tragically, there's actually two repeats! 💩🤦🏻♂️
A stark comparison to what’s on PS Plus Essentials this month
ScourgeBringer. That's pretty good, actually.
@JetmanUK I saw someone mention it over on euro or vgc I believe, amazing how people actually remember some of these 😭
@XxEvilAshxX They'd never have a 3rd party chat app run core servics. Its MS and they wouldn't want the run the risk of it disappearing or them suddenly changing something that takes out part of the service causing massive problems.
@Titntin People are only going to compare it to GamePass which is leagues above the PS stuff. They've been talking about dropping Gold for ages so this is the last few dregs before it disappears.
@Lorfarius Your wrong. Games with gold = PSplus essential. They are directly comparable, except gwg is a bargain bucket bin where essential provides ownership of games you might actually want.
Game pass is the equivalent of the higher tiers of PSplus, and whilst last year I would have said GP was leagues ahead, this year the balance has shifted somewhat and that lead is questionable to those of us that have always had both services (I previously subbed to ps now for many years).
Of course the undoubted superority of gp will reassert itself once MS has any first party output, but I think MS are unusually dropping the ball atm by not making the needed changes to gwg and ensuring their are some banging day 1 titles on release over summer when psn had a relaunch. The services invite comparison, and unless you are looking at history, the first 2 months of sonys 'new' service look pretty decent in comparison to the opposition. Im surprised MS let that happen as they are normally much more savy than sony at controlling the narritive.
Either way, I will remain subbed to both as always. Im just a little surprised that no moves have been made to dampen sonys momentum with their new launch is all. Maybe is a stratagey thats way above my head, but it doesn't look like that..
@Lorfarius That's what partnerships are for. Just like how Twitch is integrated into the Xbox OS for streaming. MS tried streaming with Mixer, but decided it was more cost-effective to have a third party handle it. Same could be said with Discord. It might not happen in the Series S/X generation, but they're laying the groundwork for something.
GWG can't get any worse.. It's just a horrible service..
Awesome more achievements to unlock for me todo list. 😉
