It's official! Resident Evil 4 is the next game in the series to receive the remake treatment, as revealed at today's State of Play showcase, and it's officially heading to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on March 24, 2023.
Few details have been revealed so far, but Capcom says the game has been "reimagined for 2023 to bring state-of-the-art survival horror", complete with modernised gameplay and a reimagined storyline:
"Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, while introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics to make this the latest survival horror game where life and death, terror and catharsis intersect."
You can check out the trailer for Resident Evil 4 above, and we'll let you know when we get more details.

Well that’s exciting news
Nearly finished RE Village and if there is any RE remake I would play it is this one.
RE4 and RE Village are the best RE out there.
I'm sure it is going to be pretty.
But honestly, if you want THE Resident Evil 4 experience, Resident Evil 4 VR is it. Absolutely amazing experience.
Resident Evil 1 & 2 remakes were fantastic whilst 3 was lacklustre. I don't see Capcom messing this up since it's the most popular of the franchise and arguably the best.
@InterceptorAlpha RE4R is getting a PSVR2 version though
"modernised"
I always read this word as "generic".
I want to see actual gameplay first. I'm curious how much has changed.
@anoyonmus While that's nice, having a wire personally ruins the experience for me.
I'm happy that Capcom did not abandon their fans on Xbox, unlike some other company that produces RPGs...
Yeah personally gonna wait for the psvr2 version of this
Very nice. Can't wait to play this version!
@deadmaker ig that’s true.
SF6 is not coming Xbox One
The PSVR2 version looks great!! Village on PSVR2 too!!
Great news. However, I think that they should remake Code Veronica before 4.
I know there is technically an RE remake out the but still wonder if they will eventually give the original Resident Evil this third person remake treatment.
Take my money. Hope they drop enough physical versions of this. Collecting the boxed RE games for Xbox
I will give this remake a go. I was hoping the rumors weren’t true that 4 was next to be remade. I feel a few other RE titles should get the remake treatment before this one. Still looking forward to it though.
@Banjo- Same!! Don't get me wrong, I love RE4 as much as the next gamer, but skipping Code:Veronica is criminal 😩
@LocalPenguin Absolutely!
@EvilSilentFrame Code Veronica, 0 and 1 should come first.
I watched the Sony showcase and knew instantly I bet a whole swarm of PS fans will be proclaiming all the games as exclusives, because that’s how Sony sold them. To me the whole thing was meh, not really interested in an RE4 remake really.
Great! Xbox has become my favourite place to play games, I have Zero plans to buy another VR headset that gathers dust on my closet (the only games that were worth were Astrobot and Polibyus)
Awesome news..
I do hope that Code Veronica gets the remake treatment at some point. Capcom seem to have completely forgotten that game exists.
@GunValkyrian- it did cross my mind, but I wasn’t too worried about it.
@Banjo- for sure! It’s all about money though. What is going to sell better? 4 is the “fan favorite” but it’s not mine. When they run out of the heavier hitters to remake, maybe they’ll get to CV, 0, and 1. Fingers crossed they are next and not 5.
@EvilSilentFrame Yep, I hope so!
I remain sceptical, but, at the same time, the chance to play a more horror focused reimagining of Resi 4 is hugely exciting.
Loved RE4 on the GameCube & interested in the remake & VR so maybe the PS version is the one to get?
@Dezzy70 I agree.
@anoyonmus It is!!!
Nice im really excited to buy and play this one when its out next year when i have money, resident evil is one of my favorite zombie and horror games i hope it gets the some treatment as resident evil 2.
@anoyonmus SF6 is coming to the Series. Xbox One is old generation, you can't expect it to receive new games forever.
@deadmaker Also, the Series X/S is more popular than Xbox One and Street Fighter is an evergreen franchise. The only reason SFVI will be released for PS4 is because it was the "default" console of the last generation, I hope that the game is not held back by the last-gen version.
@Banjo- Well I don't know why it's coming to PS4 and not Xbox One, but it's only natural old gen machines will lose support over time.
Maybe the PS4 version is justified by the number of consoles sold and still active, which is obviously much bigger than Xbox One. That doesn't mean Capcom has abandoned Xbox users, and I'm glad for it.
@deadmaker Yep, I'm super excited to have all SF games on Series X except V which I imagine will be re-released in the future for both PS and Xbox.
