Turn 10 Studios has finally showcased a deep, deep look at the Forza Motorsport reboot, which we now know hits Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2023! We didn't get just a short trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase either, we got a full look at this next-gen leap for the Forza franchise.
The headlining feature here is on-track ray tracing, a first for the series. Forza Horizon 5 introduced the next-gen feature in its car closeups but not out on the open roads of Mexico. Well, Forza Motorsport is delivering the goods, and those goods looked incredible here, on a re-worked Maple Valley track.
Is this the next-gen leap you wanted from Forza Motorsport? Let us know down in the comments!

No way this is going to run at 60fps, 4K and with ray tracing on-track on the SeriesX. I would LOVE to be proven wrong but I will not believe it unless I see it.
Hopefully the single player can be played offline…..
@FullMetalJumper Not too hard to believe. Track racers aren't as demanding as other games and Forza Motorsport has always historically hit milestone graphical benchmarks for consoles.
Raytracing on track…. Feel that line was a slap on the face of the competition.
@BBB I feel there were quite a few digs at GT7 in that reveal.
Sounds like an evolution to me and its been built from the ground up with Series X in mind. Turn 10 do amazing things -1080/60 on XB1 hardware because they are so in control of every ms and build their games to that budget so I wouldn't be Surprised if they nail 60fps with this too
@FullMetalJumper Isn’t 60fps and full ray tracing exactly what the gameplay video showed? They even mentioned Series S had it.
@Scenes The frame rate in the video is variable
@BBB @Tharsman Yeah, the digs at GT7 were coming thick and fast haha
I play GT7 religiously and even I enjoyed the pot shots 😄
Looks great, Spring is perfect timing imo!
Me before video - spring 2023?!? Wtf?!
Me after video - OMG this looks amazing!!!
You know, both gt7 and fm8 have the 911 gt3 rs, both have the nurburgring. Can't wait for side-by-side comparisons. Not a racer, per se, but I can appreciate a pretty game, when I sees it.
@FullMetalJumper pretty sure that’s impossible to tell over 1080p 60 live YouTube compression.
All previous Forza games have made a point of pushing the edge of tech with a rock solid 60fps. Why would this be any different?
Quality Mode in Forza Horizon 5 is 4K@30FPS on the Series X, so I'm not sure how they plan to manage 4K@60FPS with RT for this unless the new engine is optimized better.
I really hope they can pull it off or at least upscaled using FSR 2.0.
Wow it even looked amazing watching it from a compressed YouTube video, just wait till we get to play it on 4K HDR tv! But Spring 2023 though? I’m going to try and get a copy of FM7 to tide me over till then.
@Texel Horizon and Motorsport are different in scope and size. Horizon is a lot more demanding due to it being open world where everything is loaded in and running at once. With Motorsport they can push the game graphically seeing as it’s only one track loaded in and running at one time. I’ll be seriously impressed if they manage to have the game running at 4K 60fps with full RT.
They should've said there will be a full single player mode with no online requirement to troll Sony lol
I thought I couldn't get really excited about new and upcoming video games anymore, but then I saw this.
In a world where the latest Gran Turismo is online-only and a big disappointment, I need this and I need them to come through with their usual quality. Horizon 5 has been a ton of fun and absolutely gorgeous on the Series X, this new proper Forza should be the next gen racing game I have been waiting for.
Plese no real-world car prices... Plese no real-world car prices... Plese no real-world car prices...
Biggest shock of the show…2023. I was sure this would hit this year. So basically means ms have had no first party support for the second year of their new consoles…crazy.
As for the game…looked ok. Ray tracing was a nice touch if it is actually during actual races. The whole water thing and basically copying FH5s trailer from last year was completely pointless when you can’t see any of it as you’re tied up a track. Tbh…other than the ray tracing it really didn’t look a generational leap over the last forza In what they showed. Should have shown some weather effects… anyway 2023? Ffs xbox
Looking forward to it, This looks way better than GT7..
I actually thought this looked bad. Yes, the cars were shiny, but I thought the trees and water looked terrible.
This looks incredible and it makes GT7 look decidedly last gen. Now, don't go and mess it up with egregious MTX and always online SP like Sony/Polyphony did with GT7.
I was not blown away by this at all. Its pretty enough, but the pop in between lod models is happening right in front of camera and looks obvious, and the lighting needs some tweaks to look real.
It does have some time though, so assumming these issues are fixed and some general polish, it could look lovely.
Shame its not coming sooner.
@Scenes "All previous Forza games have made a point of pushing the edge of tech with a rock solid 60fps. Why would this be any different?"
Because real-time ray-tracing is costly to performance.
@Thumper so is running at 1080p 60 on a base Xbox One but somehow previous Forza Motorsport games were some of the few to do so.
This isn’t theory about what they might be able to achieve with realtime ray tracing. They show it in the video. They even call it out specifically.
If you choose not to believe it fair enough. I hope you’re pleasantly surprised Spring 2023.
@Scenes Yes, they demonstrated RT. But we cannot ascertain overall performance from a brief, compressed YouTube video
There is still time to polish the engine and game. There's no doubt in my mind that it will run at 60fps flawlessly on both Series X and S.
@MaccaMUFC Solid point. I actually thought about that a few hours after I posted while playing FH5
Looks amazing! Very very excited!
