We've been waiting ages for news on Forza Horizon 5's first expansion, and courtesy of an eagle-eyed Redditor, we now know that Forza Horizon 5 Expansion 1 is set to be based on Hot Wheels once again!
An image of this briefly appeared on the Steam Store for PC, after which it was quickly taken down, but an archive of the webpage continues to show it in all its glory — you can check it out in the Reddit and Twitter posts below:
As you probably remember, Hot Wheels was also an expansion for Forza Horizon 3, and it was probably the most beloved expansion in the Forza Horizon series to date. Horizon 4 also received Hot Wheels DLC last year.
We're expecting to hear more about Forza Horizon 5 Expansion 1 this weekend at the big Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022, unless Microsoft decides to spill the beans early following this leak.

The Hot Wheels DLC in FH3 is my favourite part of the Forza franchise so this would be fantastic.
YES! Just what I was after. Fire.
YES! What Grumblevolcano said. Hot Wheels in FH5 would be great. 🏎
Can you smell a cash cow? I certainly can. No originality let's just do Hot wheels again = Playground Games.
The forza horizon 4 dlc will shortly be delisted with absolutely no warning while still full price too
I'm not sure... The image in question doesn't look like Mexico in the background but the same as the Australian landscape used for FH3. Blizzard mountain is visible and everything...
Also, this would break the trend of having the normal expansion first and the crazier one second. I'm not buying into it just yet
If this is true it’s hugely disappointing. Firstly, we’ve already had a Hot wheels expansion, and secondly there’s a dedicated HW game (which I have). All this on top of the fastest I got bored with Horizon game. Oh well, roll on FM8
@pip_muzz I did think the same when I saw this earlier. That, the fact there is a standalone Hot Wheels game already, and the fact that the toy-related expansions are typically the second expansion released makes me question this
@Resi32 what should it have been?
I want more of the Monster Truck. That was just a tease in the campaign part of the game.
@Daniel1221 @pip_muzz You could also interpret it that the crazier expansion launches in Spring/Summer and the normal expansion launches in Winter.
FH2 Fast and Furious - March 2015
FH3 Hot Wheels - May 2017
FH4 Lego - June 2019
FH1 Rally - December 2012
FH2 Storm Island - December 2014
FH3 Blizzard Mountain - December 2016
FH4 Fortune Island - December 2018
I do wonder though with FH4 probably being delisted in September 2018 due to 4 year licensing if expansion 2 ends up being Lego in Summer 2023 instead of a normal expansion.
@Grumblevolcano I hadn't thought about it like that. That would make more sense but still fails to explain why the background looks similar to that of Australia
@Daniel1221 Hot Wheels was a separate map from the main Australia area in FH3 so maybe you get taken to the same island?
@Grumblevolcano Potentially but that would be rather underwhelming. I know Playground are also working on the Fable reboot (plus the longer-term effects from the pandemic) but to take this long but be nothing more than a remake of the expansion would be disappointing. With that being said, I never experienced the DLC on FH3 so that'd be nice.
@Daniel1221 @Grumblevolcano The separate island thing is possible. The Steam Page thing does really strongly suggest the Hot Wheels theme but that image is definitely confusing... You'd think MS would deliberately make something more clearly visibly new if that were the case.
I really hope it's not just a re-tread of old content however. More Hot Wheels is fine in itself, but not if it's the exact same island and similar layouts already used in FH3.
Given how good the hotwheels game is, this is sad for me. Id rather play horwheels in its own game than in fh5, but fh5 is dead to me and I was hoping an expansion would tempt me back....
@pip_muzz You've hit the nail on the head there. Personally, I'd like to see Lego return at some point. I feel as if they should have lego-ifed more cars and could have done more with the map. Maybe they'll remake / remaster all of the previous DLC one day now, that would be good!
Noooo!
Really hoped for something more original. Like...
ANYTHING would have been better than returning to Hot Wheels again, which is basically just a more orange version of the better user generated tracks.
@Bartig I don't think it's fair to expect Japan as DLC, that is likely going to be a full entry of its own.
@armondo36 they could have done whacky racers, formula 1, hell they could do Mario kart (have to call it Bario cart)
Anything but yet more hot wheels.
Has anyone got the GIF of that lovely Bristolian lady saying “not another one”
Honestly I’d much prefer a real world expansion. Bit disappointing for me. Great for those that love it.
Image looks like I could have made it and I am no photoshop master
Forza Horizon 3 is 30fps so at least this would be 60fps. If it's meant to bring Hot Wheels back as is then it should be the "third" expansion, even if it comes first. The new crazy expansion should be Banjo Pilots including Banjo-Kazooie, Gruntilda, Conker, Cooper, Amber and Mr. Ribs from Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Zitz, Rash, and Pimple from Battletoads, Jago and B. Orchid, Master Chief, Crash and Spyro (soon owned by Microsoft), etc.
@Banjo- FH3 is 30 fps on console? That explains why its so much smoother on PC!! I didn't realise it was locked to 30.
Side note: I'm excited for the HW expansion as I was very late to FH3 & missed the expansions completely - but I do understand people's frustration. It'll no doubt be very different map-wise to FH3.
@MaseSco Unfortunately, the Xbox One X upgrade didn't include a 60fps mode and the game hasn't received a Series X/S upgrade. A website reported that Forza Horizon 3 would be 60fps on Xbox One X but it was a misunderstanding and it never happened. It's a shame that the Xbox version hasn't been updated since Xbox One X because the game is fabulous and, obviously, Series X/S is able to run the Windows code at 60fps.
amazing news! i have FH3 and I couldn't find anywhere the Hotwheels dlc, only on ebay for 250$!!! Love to play it on FH5!!!! Gooooo Goooo GOoooo!!!
