Sleeping Dogs is still, as far as we're concerned, one of the very best GTA-style open world experiences available on consoles, and so you can forgive us if we get slightly over-excited about the game receiving a new R18+ rating over on the Australian Classification website.
Yes, as reported by Kotaku Australia, Square Enix's action epic has seen a change to its existing filing and, although we know this is just an incremental update to the game's existing MA15 rating - with the change seeing the game's certification upgraded to cover "high impact violence" - we can't help ourselves get somewhat carried away by the prospect of a fancy next-gen version of Hong Kong detective Wei Shen's adventures.
Of course, Sleeping Dogs in its current definitive state plays very well indeed on last-gen and current-gen consoles via backwards compatibility - it's game you should absolutely get stuck into if you've yet to experience it - and there's been absolutely no word whatsoever on an upgraded version of any kind but hey, it'd be pretty sweet, right?
We all want to see a next-gen revamp of Sleeping Dogs and will get excited about no matter how slim the chances are, right? Let us know if you agree in the comments!

I'd rather we get a sequel then another remaster.
I never played this one. In my mind I get it completely muddled with those True Crime games and can’t really say why.
Will need to go back and check this out.
@frabbit you should absolutely try to give it a go. It’s right up there with Saints Row and GTA.
I have such strong memories of playing this game when it originally came out on the Xbox 360, would love a sequel.
@frabbit That's probably because it started life as a spiritual successor to the True Crime series at Activision before they sold it on to Square Enix.
I'd love to see a sequel if it ever happened although the team that did the original is no longer around unfortunately. A real shame. Honestly I enjoyed Sleeping Dogs more than even GTA5 back in the day.
Tag should’ve been “Wei Down Under”
@frabbit Probably because it was original part of the True Crime series till Square got ahold of it and couldn't use the True Crime name.
A sequel would be great. Sadly it's not to be.
I played it on ps4 and 360 in the last few years. It was really fun and not too tough completion. I would love to see a sequel one day .
Only recently played it after buying it on sale for a few quid & loved it great game
