Skull & Bones seems to have been around in some form for ages now, but we've not really seen any proper gameplay yet. Well, thanks to an ongoing alpha playtest, a good chunk of footage has now leaked and we have to say, it's looking rather impressive.
The roughly-five-minute clip is still up at the time of writing, and it features an extensive, narrated introduction to the world of Skull & Bones. Visually it does have shades of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, but modernised of course. However, structurally the game looks way more Sea of Thieves than the Assassin's Creed adventure it was once born from.
You'll build your ideal ship, pick up contracts, and head out to the high seas in search for all the treasure you can find. There also looks to be an extensive customisation system in this build too, along with the ability to craft materials that'll aid your adventure.
Multiplayer is also a big feature of Skull & Bones, and that's touched upon in the video too. All in all, this looks very similar to Rare's Sea of Thieves in concept, with a different style in its execution. It'll be interesting to see how the game develops in the run up to launch!
What do you reckon to this Skull & Bones gameplay? Piqued your interest? Let us know in the comments.

Looks better and more put together than I thought it would be. Like the idea of leaving the ship and exploring the lands. Not sure though how much land exploration there is.
Definitely one to keep an eye on, though the way things are at the minute, probably a 2024 release.
Considering this was revealed 5yrs ago and with a Game-play trailer coming soon after, you'd expect the 'visuals' to look 'good' with all that time poured into it.
However, I have absolutely zero interest in this and loathed the 'ship battle' sections in all the Assassins Creed games it features in. Even back when it was revealed, it seemed like a 'Sea of Thieves' with a more realistic artstyle...
I think it looks decent, seems a lot more in-depth and almost like a pirate simulator. I still don’t see me enjoying this more than Sea of Thieves though. SoT is the type of game you can just pick up and play from the off but this looks like you’ve got a lot things to manage to ensure you get an enjoyable experience, I dislike games where you’ve got to keep NPCs happy and keep yourself well fed/hydrated etc. I’ll try it if it ever comes to Game Pass.
look so good i have all pirates games available on xbox store i can't wait to play skull and bones and be a proud owner of it 😊👌
@Kooky_Daisuke thats what im thinking if they are cosmetics thats fine but if anything gives you a actual advantage im a HARD PASS
I am still calling it vaporware till it comes out.
