As Dying Light 2 comes and goes in an absolutely stacked February, the first game is still getting an update! That's right, developer Techland promised a next-gen upgrade for Dying Light months ago, and it's almost here.
It must be close because today, March 8th, the PlayStation 5 version has launched. It includes three modes, much like the sequel. There's performance mode at 1080p/60fps, balanced mode targeting 60fps at 1440p and quality mode, running at 4K/30fps.
We'd expect the Xbox Series X version to be broadly similar, as was the case with both versions of Dying Light 2. The Xbox update is "coming soon", with no further detail on its release.
As for Xbox Series S, we'll have to wait and see. Dying Light 2 didn't manage 60fps on Microsoft's digital console, and the Series S couldn't handle FPS Boost for Dying Light either. Oddly enough the PlayStation launch includes a small update for the PS4 Pro, so we'd expect something similar for Xbox One X too.
Will you be dipping back into Dying Light when it launches on next-gen? Let us know in the comments.

What I've played the of game so far have really enjoyed. Game looks great to me as is. Never even asked myself should this game look better?
The platinum edition of this is dirt cheap during most of the big online sales so I picked this up a few months ago. Wasn’t expecting much but to my surprise I’ve been putting a good few hours into it (well I was until Elden Ring took over my life) and I’ve really enjoyed it. Not sure how much difference a next gen version will be. I’m pretty sure till already runs at 60fps and looks good graphically for an older game especially on XSX. I’ll definitely jump back in once the update is released.
Why buy the second game when they are still working on the first game?
For PS5, balanced mode targeting 60fps in QHD...... weird to me, as far as I know the PS5 doesn't have 1440p support (yet) right? or am I missing something here.
