343 Industries has launched a brand new limited-time free event in Halo Infinite multiplayer. As previously revealed, it's called 'Tactical Ops' and will run from now until 22nd March.
As part of this event, players will be engaging in some classic Tactical Slayer gameplay (BRs, no radar, no shields, no grenades). 343 is also planning on a few surprise mode variants to mix things up:
"In week one, your Tactical Slayer experience will feature the BR, Mangler, and Sidekick variants; in week two, Commando and Stalker Rifles will be added to the playlist lineup."
As you complete event challenges, you'll unlock up to ten unique Spartan cosmetics (see above). This includes a Mark V ZETA helmet for your Mark VII core and various other themed-items. Additional ones will also be available in the Store.
This event follows on from a Season 2 and co-op & Forge development update last weekend.

Tactical Slayer, no thanks! Back to the campaign I go.
I might play but then again tactical just doesn't even remotely feel like Halo to me without the shields and the weapon variety and grenades and stuff. Not my style but have fun for those interested! I'm really pumped for season 2 though.
This event has the worst cosmetics of the three and the most painful game mode. SWAT with the mangler is just plain trolling players from 343, it’s horrific. A lot of people will struggle with the killing spree quests too. I’ve yet to see if you can get the mangler variant in Behemoth but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. 343 continues to show they just don’t understand live service.
@FatalBubbles I don’t number the cosmetics. The helmet is and scorpion punch cosmetics are getting pause amongst the community.
I kind of enjoy the mangler tactical slayer. It has a nice rhythm to it for me. To be fair though I had been using the mangler before this week 3 shot killing people. Instead of the usual 1 shot melee combo.
I do agree though despite side rewards people may or may not like. Infinite’s tactical slayer is the worst version of the mode so far. Mostly due to the networking issues and the maps. I’ve seen people get excited guy the rewards then realise what they have to do to get them.
I don’t know if mangler variant is on behemoth but if it is the “game modes” UI will say as it includes all variants and map combinations for a particular play list.
@ParsnipHero I’ve seen a handful of people say they like mangler SWAT, which dumbfounds me but not everyone will have the same opinion. I find the BR version tolerable, have yet to get the pistol one.
@FatalBubbles it’s goofy and I can’t say I enjoy every game but that goofiness is what stops it being as sweaty as BR or Sidekick variants.
Sidekick variant is literally hit or miss for me. The one shot one kill feeling is pretty great but most people appear to spam fire and get lucky. I don’t like that so much.
Love some tactical slayer but I won’t be returning to Halo anytime soon
@Dusk_Actual out of interest what did you think of Infinite’s tactical slayer versus previous games?
@ParsnipHero honestly I’d never played Halo MP prior to Infinite, so I can’t really opine. Sorry!
