Later this week, on March 17th, we'll finally get to see more on the much anticipated Hogwarts Legacy. However, that upcoming gameplay showcase comes in the form of a State of Play presentation, hosted by PlayStation. Naturally, this has people talking about the game as a potential PlayStation exclusive.
Fear not! Hogwarts Legacy is still a cross-platform game, and as far as we know, there's no timed exclusivity period either. That means the game should hit Xbox One and Series X|S alongside PlayStation platforms. Panic averted.
Here's what the official Hogwarts Legacy website has to say about it:
"Hogwarts Legacy will be available for PlayStation5, PlayStation4, PlayStation4 Pro, the Xbox One family of devices, including Xbox Series X and Xbox One X, and PC."
As for when that release date is, we're yet to find out. A recent artbook listing was penned for a September release window, and those usually match up with a game's launch date.
Hopefully we don't have to wait too long to find out. The upcoming showcase is set to feature almost 15 minutes of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay and maybe, just maybe, we might hear of the game's projected release date.

Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum. There are important discussions being had about the views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with.
Our goal is to create and foster a positive environment for people – all people – to discuss and celebrate video games, not to amplify ignorance or provide a forum for unconstructive arguments. As per our community rules, we do not accept any form of hate speech on our platform.
Hope it gets a day one release on Game pass.
Wonder if it is gonna be another case of it running better on Playstation. Similar to Elden Ring.
@InterceptorAlpha Elden Ring runs much better on my Series X than it does on son’s PlayStation thanks to VRR. Even Digital Foundry said XSX with VRR is the best way to play it on console.
@awp69 That's a fairly big caveat to be fair, I'd venture the proportion of those with VRR capable screens are in a minority
This supposed to be an MMO?
@PapaGlitch It’s also pretty sad that Sony still hasn’t implemented a feature they promised at launch. It makes me want to play all my multiplatform games on my Series X.
@awp69 I'm not arguing with that, it is pretty poor that Sony haven't implemented that, or 120hz, unless I'm mistaken. But again, they are fairly niche concerns at this point
@PapaGlitch The thing is, I don’t think they are as niche as people think they are. The LG CX and C1 models are among the most popular TV models for gaming and both are affordable and have 120 hz and VRR. It isn’t some elite ultra expensive technology.
Anyway, I know quite a few people who have LGs in particular and VRR is making a difference in which console we buy games for. I pretty much only use my PS5 for exclusives.
@awp69 This is incorrect. Based off Digital Foundry, the best way is the play the PS4 version on PS5 because you get a solid 60fps. You can't get that on Xbox.
VRR does help on Series X. That's how I play. But it is still very noticeable when compared to the PS4 version on PS5.
@InterceptorAlpha From Digital Foundry:
“If you have access to a 4K screen supporting variable refresh rate (VRR), we contend that Series X offers the best console version of the game.”

If you have VRR, the Series X is the best way to play it, according to Digital Foundry. If you don’t, then PS4 version on a PS5 is the best.
John Linneman from DF has said he personally is playing it on Series X.
Do whatever you want and play wherever you want, but DF recommends the Series X version out of all the console versions if you have VRR.
@awp69
XSX with VRR in performance mode works well for the first area, but in later areas the frame rate falls below 40 and gets rather rough. I personally quit playing it on my XSX now in hopes it gets fixed up or PS5 gets VRR support
@awp69 i wouldn't say those LG TV's are 'affordable' they're about £1000 & upwards
Im more worried about the actual game coming out TBH.
I hope this lives up to the hype. It looks incredible, like a PS exclusive. Here’s hoping!!
my brother its his most anticiped game ever we grow up with harry potter in theatre at the same time when daniel radcliffe had 8 years so my brother whiles i was 7 we watched each movie in theatre and grew with them but unfortunetely for me i think i miss the train because now that i'm 31 i don't feel to be the audience target anymore if only that game was came out in the early xbox one years window but my brother still want to play it,let's see if i will try it out.
Likely this will be a day-one for me
@PapaGlitch 120hz is on PS5, it was a big selling point of the recent Uncharted collection as it could do 120fps. In fact i'm pretty sure it was there at launch as DMC V on PS5 has a 120fps mode and that was a launch title.
