PlatinumGames Wants To Talk With Xbox About Revisiting Scalebound

This past weekend, we shared the story that PlatinumGames' Hideki Kamiya was still keen to team up with Xbox after the cancellation of Scalebound back in 2017, and now thanks to a new interview with IGN Japan (translated by VGC), the company has once again suggested it would like to revisit the project — ideally with Microsoft.

In the interview, Platinum President Atsushi Inaba explained that Kamiya "has always wanted to do Scalebound", and the team would like "a proper discussion with Microsoft" about it. Kamiya had the following to say:

“We did a lot of work on it, and it’s no use Microsoft keeping the game in its current form, so we’d like to do something about it (laughs). Phil! Let’s do it together!”

There's a bit of debate about the exact translation of his comments — here's another interpretation:

This isn't the first time PlatinumGames has shown interest in bringing back Scalebound, telling players to 'send Phil Spencer a letter' if they wanted to see it back in 2020, which led to a passionate response from fans on social media.

However, Kamiya also made a point of apologising to the fans and Microsoft last year for Scalebound's cancellation, explaining that "we weren’t experienced enough and couldn’t get over that wall, leading to what happened in the end."
