We might have a potential smash hit on our hands here! Disney Speedstorm was announced as part of today's Nintendo Direct, serving as a free-to-play kart racer featuring characters from the Disney and Pixar universes.
The game is being developed by Asphalt 9 studio Gameloft, so we've got high hopes for it, and it will feature cross-platform online play along with local split-screen multiplayer.
Disney Speedstorm is planning to release new characters, karts and tracks in a seasonal format, all of which are based on popular Disney and Pixar franchises. Firstly though, the game is set to launch sometime in Summer 2022.
The hero-based battle racing game, set on high-speed circuits inspired by Disney & Pixar worlds, is releasing this year on PC & consoles!

Playstation and xbox need a good kart racer and this looks pretty decent but the free to play aspect has me worried, seems like we will be paying for characters. Would prefer it just to be a full paid game
Looks good hopefully the monetization isn't as bad as asphalts I really enjoy playing that on my switch but the progression is really slow if you don't pay
I'm happy to see this one coming to Xbox. I have played Asphalt 9 on Switch a lot but the resolution sometimes hurt my eyes. I'm ready for a Disney racer in UHD. Just one question, why does the trailer only mention Switch and how do you know that it's coming to Xbox as well? @FraserG
Need a new kart racer I refuse to buy Mario kart on the switch or any port from Wii U that I owned and beat.
@Banjo- had the same question - although cross platform play suggests other platforms. Just not sure which platforms they refer to
The only mention of platforms I've seen so far is on the official website saying "coming to PC and consoles".
I guess I'd assume since it's F2P it should be on Switch, PS and Xbox.
@Banjo- To be 100% honest, I don't know for sure (it's why I didn't namedrop "Xbox" in the headline).
That said, it's announced for "PC and consoles" and it supports cross-platform play, so I'd be very surprised if it wasn't on Xbox.
The Kart racer is a genre that's gone out of fashion, but I think we're due a good one that's not Mario Kart.
Not sure about the "Free to Play" bit though as that, invariably, means paying for characters, kart customisation, and probably "season passes" like Rocket league. Just make a game and sell it finished.
@FraserG Thanks. I watched a shorter trailer and it mentions "consoles" instead of "Switch" so yes, that should include Xbox.
@blinx01 @StonyKL I just watched a shorter trailer (28 seconds instead of 52) that mentions "consoles" instead of "Switch" so it's coming to Xbox as well, I assume.
