Get ready to play ball, as Sony San Diego has announced that MLB The Show will be returning to Xbox this April 5th in the form of MLB The Show 22, and once again it'll be launching day one with Xbox Game Pass!
The cover star for this year's game is none other than Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels, and The Show 22 will also feature cross-play and cross-progression with the PS4, PS5 and (newly-added) Nintendo Switch versions.
Details on specific features are limited right now, with more info to be revealed at a later date. If you want to buy it, the standard Xbox One version retails for $59.99, while the Series X and Series S version retails for $69.99. The Collector's Edition of the game will be revealed on Wednesday, February 2nd, along with all its content.
Both MLB The Show 22 Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S Standard Editions will be included with Xbox Game Pass so members will be able to play the best version of the game regardless of which console they are on. And with cross-platform play and progress, you can play against others online, and earn and use content across the platform and generation you choose.

That’s excellent news…was worried they were just teasing us with ‘21. Happy man here.

Playstation games on Xbox and Nintendo
Nintendo games........on Nintendo
What a time to be alive
Awesome news
This is exciting!
Ladies and gentlemen.....we got 'em
The Show deal is very strange. Obviously great for us with Gamepass (started last year's version, last night funnily enough) but makes absolutely zero sense from Sony. As it was such a belligerent business decision last year that to follow it up in 2022 makes me question wtf they are thinking. Ive bought 2 versions of the show on PS4 and really enjoy it and to be getting it for free* on Gamepass is ridiculous frankly. Sony have well and truly lost all sense of gamer culture.
@themcnoisy MLB is driving the bus. They either lose the license or put it on Xbox and make more money. I'm sure Xbox threw a ton a cash at Sony/MLB to get it on Gamepass.
If the deal isn't to Sony's liking they could drop The Show, have the studio work on something else, and MLB would have to find another team to make their multi-plat baseball game.
I'm not one to get in on the corporate drama. But Sony is absolutely getting punked in the classical sense.
This was my most played game for 2021 according to the microsoft museum thing. I have a couple hundred hours and 1000 achievement score.
Not sure if I will be up for playing another one that much but proper MLB baseball being back on xbox is sweet.
That's pretty shocking. I figured they'd find a way to close that loophole this time, but apparently, not so.
Which makes me think Sony's making good money on Game Pass. Maybe that bodes well for Sparticus and a rethink on "that model isn't sustainable for us."
@redd214 LOL exact same here! Seems counterintuitive that PS is the only platform not to play PS's biggest game on, but there it is...
Though that smacks of Sony's problem a little bit. They have the least appealing platform to play even their own games on.....they need to rethink things a bit. (Maybe they have and that's what's up with Bungie )
@Bdbrady im not complaining Brady, but - if I was working at Sony - no way on Earth I would allow my premier baseball game to be on Gamepass. Sell it on Xbox, sure MLB put paid to that. But allowing it on Gamepass and it's £60 on your own console. It's so stupid I can't fathom the idiocy.
@themcnoisy
Frankly, I doubt Sony has a choice. They either license the MLB teams, players, and stats or they would have to go it alone. Who wants to buy a baseball game without the MLB, teams, players, and stats? MLB decides how games with their licenses are sold, not Sony.
If Sony said, no, MLB could go to many other publishers/studios and get them to do a game and not allow Sony to license the MLB name, etc.
@themcnoisy if they had a choice, yes. I doubt they did. MLB likely opened negotiations for cuts with the other publishers and Xbox pitched Gamepass.
Ok if this doesn’t tell Sony fanboys that there must be something to releasing games on gamepass nothing will… you don’t go a second round if there are no benefits to it
@VOODOO85 The Nintendo Switch is truly a multiplatform console. It has Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo games
@UltimateOtaku91 and its not a cloud version
@Medic_Alert yea its the first time mlb the show had 4 million players and even sony said the game sold better then expected and that Addon sales were extremely high due to gamepass.....also the game had more xbox playerrs then ps players....
@Medic_Alert when this gen started i had a xbox one x and a ps4 pro the only game played on pro was mlb the show....when i learned it was coming to xbox it was a no brainer i was getting a series X(day 1 got it) then it came to gamepass and i was honestly shocked.....now my decision seems even better... so im one of those people who literally picked their system based on this one game being available on xbox finally.....gamepass was just a huge bonus.
@themcnoisy MLB forced them they literally told them if they wanted to keep the license for baseball they had to release on other systems.....sony worked a deal out that made the MLB the publisher for non sony systems......and they got to keep the exclusive license for their game and our systems get the games... thats why its on gamepass Sony isnt the publisher of the xbox version so they dont get to control how its released....they kinda screwed up imo as now xbox has a selling point for both gamepass and their systems and took the baseball quiver out of sonys pocket.
@VOODOO85 This just proves that the true console king is Nintendo. lol.
