Rebellion, the developers behind the always entertaining Sniper Elite series have just dropped a slick cinematic trailer for Sniper Elite 5 which, amongst other things, shows off an interesting new multiplayer mode.
The mode, known as Invasion, will see players jump into each other's campaigns where they'll face off against each other across maps as Axis and Allied snipers. Sounds to us like we're finally gonna get a chance to recreate scenes from that terrible old sniper film with Ed Harris and Jude Law.
Rebellion's official PR has a little more info about the ins and outs of the upcoming sneak-fest;
"Invasion Mode will bring a whole new dimension to the game’s intense drama and add increased diversity to the tactics that players will have to employ in order to complete their mission. The invading Axis Sniper will have the sole aim to eliminate the player while the Allied Sniper will gain an extra objective: take out the invader. Invasion Mode will also be available in co-operative play increasing the challenge for the Axis invader as they now have two Allies to track down, but offering greater rewards.
Successful Axis Snipers will be rewarded with weapons, items and skin unlocks while Allied Snipers can earn weapon and character skins by killing their opponent. You will also be awarded with additional XP for having Invasion Mode enabled."
Invasion mode, which can be turned off for players who prefer to play solo only, will also see both Axis and Allied snipers gain some nifty new skills. The Axis sniper will be able to utilise "Eagle Eye", which uses nearby Axis forces in order to keep an eye out for your allied foe, giving away their whereabouts when they're spotted.
On the flip side, Allied players can use "Invasion Phones" dotted across the map to get the drop on their enemy's last known location. It all sounds like it's gonna be plenty of sneaky fun and we're certainly looking forward to getting stuck in here when Sniper Elite 5 drops day one on Xbox Game Pass at some point later this year.
Will you be jumping into Invasion mode in order to pop a pal's head like an over-ripe melon? Let us know in the comments.

That's going on the wishlist!
Now this is a day-one AAA game I can get behind. Hopefully this coming to GP isn't a sign it will be yet another day-one dumpster dive.
I love this franchise, but it would be great if Rebellion could move beyond WWII.
Sounds very much like the feature in Deathloop I both enjoyed and hated at the same time. LOL
I hope Sniper Elite 5 comes to Switch! I'll definitely play it on Game Pass on my Series X on day 1!
@PanFriedSoup I like the ww2 setting but I'd still like to see some different wars explored. Nam would be cool.
Great series! I’ve lost quite a few hours playing previous installments. Like others in this thread I agree it would be nice to move on from WWII though. We still have snipers today
I played the 4 thanks to Game Pass, and I was surprised by how much fun it was. Day 1 for me with this.
You didn't like Enemy at the Gates???
Really looking forward to this! The Sniper Elite series has really satisfied my desires for a good stealth based combat series over the years.
Other players "invading" other peoples' missions has been done before. Now Microsoft owns so many studios they should let you invade other GAMES!
Imagine you're about to clutch first place in Forza Horizon 5, and then BAM your tire gets shot out, and you crash into a tree. Or you're exploring a cave in Minecraft, and someone slips out of the shadows and stabs you in the back.
If you're going to buy up so many studios at least give us more crossovers.
