It's now been over a year since the Xbox Series X launched in November 2020, and since that time, it's never been easy to get hold of one — the stock suddenly appears online, and they quickly get snapped up by eager fans.
Amazingly though, this week has been different. Various UK retailers have had stock of Xbox Series X consoles for extended periods of time in recent days, and Amazon UK appears to have set a new record, keeping the console in stock for over 24 hours — it's even still available at the time of writing, although it appears to be finally selling out now.

There were reports back in October that Xbox Series X supply was going to improve significantly ahead of Christmas, and that certainly seems to have been the case — at least in the UK. In North America, the situation admittedly doesn't seem to have improved a whole lot in recent weeks.
Still, hopefully this is the start of the Xbox Series X becoming much easier to acquire if you're interested in one, as the stock situation has definitely been fairly healthy in the UK this Christmas. Let's see what 2022 brings...
Did you manage to snap up an Xbox Series X this week? Let us know down in the comments below.

Here's hoping that there are hundreds of scalpers out there who have suddenly found themselves with thousands of pounds worth of consoles that they can no longer sell at inflated prices. Merry Christmas you filthy animals, and a happy New Year.
I'm happy because there're so many people sad because they couldn't get one or that they had to get an Xbox One or Series S instead. Very clever of Microsoft to bring more consoles just before Christmas. I hope that everyone can get one.
@Spaceman-Spiff Same here, there is this 16-year-old that won millions of $ re-selling PS5 and Series X. I hope that this could be avoided somehow, it's illegal to do something like this with concert tickets, for instance.
@Medic_Alert
Well said. I used to be a PS guy (PS2, PS3, PS4, PS4 PRO, PS5) but I switched to Xbox as this gen they've got the best package (to me at least). Reason no 1, though, was becoming tired of the same formula for their games (action adventure tpp games with a 'deep' plot). It got so bad that even now when I see the new Horizon FW footage I feel nothing. Starfield, Stalker and Hellblade 2 are way more interesting to me than anything Sony has released so far this gen or is yet to release.
@jrt87 I know what you mean. I commented similarly on the original article about stock yesterday. I would prefer to have the X, but I've been so impressed with the S that it doesn't feel like a compelling upgrade at the moment. I even tested myself a couple of times by visiting the Series X page on Amazon Perhaps in a few years the situation will be different but I suspect for a while to come the S will be more than viable.
I used to be very similar to you in that I also have traditionally cared about performance and resolution. For me it was the Switch which made me realise perhaps it didn't matter so much. For example, I'm currently playing SMT V and loving it despite the low frame rate and resolution. It still looks and plays great. In general I've found the S blows the Switch out of the water (perhaps unsurprisingly) so from that baseline it's still an impressive machine. I also have a PS5 which means I can play anything where I really care over there.
@Medic_Alert
I know what you mean about giving Sony a kick up the bottom and I think they are a bit.
However Series X being stock for long periods especially in the UK at the minute might also be a sign of sales slowing down, which in turn won’t give Sony a kick up the bottom.
If you look at sales of series s/x to Xbox one they are as good as tied, same time scale.
Also PS4 to PS5 they are as good as tied.
That basically means so far it’s the same as last generation sales wise at this point from release date.
The problem Xbox has is the PS4 and the games it created and consumer buy in, looking at sales Sony have massive following moving into PS5.
So basically gamepass is not doing much for console sales really sales same as Xbox one, same time frame. Xbox needs massive games that get massive consumer buy in and to become trendy again.
My prediction, sales will be roughly the same as last generation, which is exactly where sales are now. Maybe a few more for Xbox depending on the quality of games. But when you look around the hype for a game like HZDFW across the world is staggering on just a pure exclusives front.
See it’s not about gamepass it’s all about the games.
My 8 year nephew just been round and dropped Christmas presents off. I have all 3 consoles.
Nephew has and old Xbox360, Nintendo switch.
He chose to play PS5
Astro bots demoing the controller- excited
Sack boy adventure - love this game
Ratchet and clank - this is amazing
Spider-Man Miles morales - nearly wet himself, his dad has drag him off home.
It’s all about the games and the big hitters that create purchases, guess what his next generation console is.
@Medic_Alert
I’m going by the fact that say roughly just a month ago if a series x came up for sale it was gone say in and hour and good stock as well. Now I can buy one at three different outlets right this minute.
That’s is either a massive stock drop or slowing of sales. I’m going a slight slow down in sales and the fact that series s has been available for months off the shelf in stock.
Yes correct sales are judged on what you said being fair. However if you sell more consoles you stand a chance of selling more gamepass subs. Console sales are linked to gamepass sales.
At work there is only PS5 owners not many but some, but no series s/x owners, which also links back to sales slowly down.
A few have not got PS5 but are getting one for HFW😂
With one stating I have to get for my girlfriend as she wants HFW on the PS5, yes I know it’s PS4 as well but I guess they want to upgrade. Also God of War gets mentioned.
They only new about FH5 and Halo Infinite because I mention them in conversation, they not interested.
These are all university graduates around 21 to 25.
So I also base things on my own listening and information.
It was FH5 that got my Xbox itch going again and wow, what a game!
I settled on a Series S and still can’t find a XSX in stock near me or online in the states.. I’m not exactly disappointed with it, having access to a Series X would have made me a lot happier….
I still love many of the franchises that Sony has in their camp and wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to bag a PS5 should the moment present itself however, I missed out on the Xbox One entirely and the later half of the 360 at that. There’s a lot of Xbox exclusives I missed out on and future exclusives that have my interest.
@Dezzy70 Hard to compare Series X and PS5 sales with that level of certainty when Microsoft don't announce hardware figures and both are usually out of stock but it seems that Series S/X are performing better than Xbox One in spite of Play Anywhere and Cloud. You lost me with the Horizon Forbidden West hype above anything else. Most people play multiplatform titles (FIFA, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Minecraft, GTA...) and if we talk exclusives, Starfield has the same or more hype around it than Horizon Forbidden West, not to mention The Elder Scrolls VI, the most anticipated game on most multiplatform sites. Friends don't mean much in the big picture because I have a friend that only plays Sea of Thieves and even so he upgraded from Xbox One X to Series X to play in 60fps (cheaper than buying a high-end gaming PC).
@BlueOcean
It will all be interesting where it all ends up.
My prediction roughly at the end of this new generation very similar to this generation.
Xbox may have a late peak when we see the likes of Fable, perfect dark and elder scrolls 6 etc.
One thing is for sure for me, I hope they do a better job than they did with Halo Infinite, it’s dam good but could have been legendary and epic. For me not enough graphically, environments, variation and some poor visually effects. Bad water, smoke disappearing etc. after a while it’s a dull place to fps.
My concern is the lowering of quality of a game as it is sort of free on gamepass, so it’s harder to complain about. That will not do for me, I want to pay for the very best and epic in all areas a game can be.
However FH5 mainly achieved epic.
@Dezzy70 You are disappointed with Halo Infinite. For other people Halo Infinite is the best Halo game:
https://www.purexbox.com/forums/xbox_one/xbox_games_youve_recently_beat?start=160#reply-178
Sony are doubling down on cinematic linear pseudo-open-world experiences template where graphics are able to shine more than when you introduce open gameplay. Personally, I don't find that as appealing as others. Sequels to Spider-Man (that started as an expansion), Horizon, God of War Ragnarok (that started as an expansion) are Sony's safe portfolio for the current generation and I'm sure that the graphics and the voice acting will be the start of the show. Having said that, I think that other games looked as good or better last generation: Shadow of the Tomb Raider (characters, environments), Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla (everything), Sea of Thieves (lighting, sky, sea, HDR...). In any case, exclusives rarely are what drive sales because very few sell over 10 million. There are exceptions, Nintendo have the worst hardware since the Wii generation and only their games sell well. Sony will have a few hits like last generation but Microsoft have the potential to have the greatest number of hits this generation (they already have a few!). If Sony was so certain about PS5, they wouldn't have started publishing games for Windows and they wouldn't be working with Microsoft on cloud technologies because it's not like they are an open-minded company that has supported cross-platform gameplay in third-party games. It took a lot of backlash for that to happen. Same for the cross-gen upgrade pricing, etc. Heck, they even spend millions on third-party timed exclusivity! That doesn't scream confidence in their first-party lineup to drive sales.
I'm sorry but being in stock for over 24 hours is not a good sign whereas the ps5 sells out in minutes, though I'd bet this would be a different story if it was in the US
Though on the plus side I'm seriously considering trading in my series S to get the X now that it's becoming easier to get one
There's absolutely no way to tell what is or isn't a good sign right now. What is good, is that the local pawn shop is selling XSX and PS5 for £599 right now. Too bad for them!
I no longer see the green 'in stock' line, and delivery is now 1-4 Jan, so they must have supplies coming in.
@Dezzy70
"At work there is only PS5 owners not many but some, but no series s/x owners, which also links back to sales slowly down."
Anecdotal, but this has been pretty much everywhere I've worked. Pretty much to the point that if you play games it is assumed you have a Playstation. The only other person I've ever mat at work that has an Xbox only has the original Xbox they still play.
@BlueOcean
I see your best form of defence is to attack Sony.
I don’t care about Sony really.
And yes ACV etc are beautiful looking games especially ACV on my SERIES X.
And so is FH5 a beautiful game in my Series x.
What I care about is Xbox games being they best they can be in every department available and Halo Infinite is dam good I said that.
But it could have been so much more and epic.
So why doesn’t Halo Infinite look and shine graphically like ACV on my series x.
Where are my different environmental biomes.
Where are my weather effects etc.
where are my environmental effects and interaction.
Instead it has bad effects like the rubbish water and smoke disappearing and pop in etc. shocking.
Halo Infinite should have looked a miles better and had more variety. Don’t let Xbox Microsoft off just because it’s free on gamepass.
If you let Microsoft off other games will be subpar in certain departments like Halo Infinite is and gamepass will become subpar games in certain areas but cheap to play.
See I care about what Microsoft do to some of the best franchises in gaming!!!
@UltimateOtaku91
Thank god someone on here understands what I’m saying. It’s not good that stock is still available especially still right now I can go buy one.
UK is the second highest Xbox territory outside of the USA and it is definitely series consoles s or x slow down in purchasing. And that’s with FH5 and Halo just released. It’s definitely not a good sign.
@InterceptorAlpha
That’s all I was saying earlier, just my observation of work etc and who owns what and intends to buy what. Also with all this stock lasting 24 hours and longer now of series x it is not a good sign for Microsoft and Xbox. UK is a big or was a big Xbox territory. You can tell in the UK in department stores with now over the last few months and lead up to Christmas, most merchandise is all Nintendo and PlayStation.
Microsoft where is all your merchandise for kids and adults in the UK department stores? There is some but very little.
@Dezzy70 "I see your best form of defence is to attack Sony".
Not at all! I am explaining why your arguments lack consistency and for that I have to talk about Sony. You are the one that started the hardware sales discussion and saying that Sony's exclusives are more hyped and system sellers, I just replied to that. I really don't care about who sells more and that's not really that important. I think that Microsoft is great now because of how well PS4 performed (especially, as the "casual" FIFA/GTA console). Competition is good.
I totally respect your disappointment with Halo Infinite, I just meant that there are people that love it. I often criticise 343 Industries, in between. Just check my comments.
Do you think that because a huge stock of Series X arrived and haven't sold out yet, Series X is in trouble? That's a bit too dramatic.
@BlueOcean
Microsoft consoles from a business point of few will never be in trouble, Microsoft have trillions money is not an issue to them.
I’m just concerned they just play at gaming and after Halo Infinite concerned they will, in my opinion only create subpar games in certain areas to grow games on gamepass.
What I do know is that will bite them bad both in console sales and gamepass subscriptions, but at that point it maybe to late and games that could have been epic have been released and finished with.
@Dezzy70 What subpar games do Microsoft make to blow Game Pass up with titles? Forza Horizon 5? Psychonauts 2? Flight Simulator? Halo Infinite is likely Microsoft's most expensive game ever, if it's not top-notch development is not because of Microsoft but 343 Industries and their questionable organisation and lack of focus and that's another debate. It doesn't make sense to think that Halo Infinite is lower-quality because it's a Game Pass game.
@BlueOcean
Microsoft have created the best console ever the series x and the feature set to go along with it.
They just need to create the best every game can be in every department.
If they mess with Gears and create a subpar like they did with Halo Infinite, that will be my lot with Xbox I’m afraid, they get a pass with Halo Infinite just about from me. But Microsoft please don’t do it again with your other big beloved franchises.
@BlueOcean
You know I love FH5 😂 you trickster.
@BlueOcean
Please let’s remember Microsoft the Xbox team own and manage 343i, don’t let them off 😂
@Dezzy70 the way I see it is that as a pure console business microsoft might just perform more badly this gen compared to last gen and won't compete with Sony, though the reason I say that is because their main focus has shifted to gamepass and the cloud meaning most people won't bother buying an xbox and just play the games via cloud on the phones, TV or PC.
So even though the demand for the console itself will be lower there will be way more people playing xbox games this gen than last gen
@Dezzy70 I really mean it when I say that Halo Infinite could be perfect because it's Microsoft's most expensive game. If it's not graphically awesome and has glitches is because of 343 Industries and I often criticise that studio. We've already had Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2 and Flight Simulator. Just think of Gears 6 (although 5 disappointed me), Fable, Perfect Dark, The Elder Scrolls VI, Starfield...
@Dezzy70 "Please let’s remember Microsoft the Xbox team own and manage 343i, don’t let them off".
That's why I also criticise Phil. He is awesome and the best leader Xbox could have but he should be a bit harsher with some of their teams. I think we have discussed this and agreed in the past. He just let them do their thing and I think there should be a middle ground, especially with Rare and 343 Industries.
@UltimateOtaku91
That’s is ok as long as they make the games the best they can be in every department.
Is it possible to make a game the best it can be for the the worlds most powerful console the series x when you have to consider all those other areas for game development.
@UltimateOtaku91 Seeing the current tendencies in the different markets, it seems that Series S/X will surpass the Xbox One family worldwide.
@Dezzy70 Microsoft have pretty decent servers so I'm sure they can make the best games possible and make them run quick via the cloud especially after a couple more upgrades and when the allow 1080 for cloud on android etc
@BlueOcean
True, I think I said and got concerned about them stretching their studios to far making games for how many consoles, PC, cloud gaming, mobile phones etc.
are Microsoft becoming the Jack of all trades but the master of none.
I would love a few dedicated games just for series x alone and nothing else. Just to see what say playground games or the coalition could do.
That would be probably be perfection in all departments right there.
@UltimateOtaku91
My concern is their developers have to become the Jack of all trades but the masters on none.
@Dezzy70 also I mean no dis-respect to playstation or anyone but its the second most wanted console for kids and by kids I mean between 8-17 year olds who want to play fortnite, gta online and fifa
@Dezzy70 "I would love a few dedicated games just for series x alone".
I don't think that would be a good idea as their focus is Play Anywhere (console+PC) and Cloud. No problem with that Since Xbox and PC equal Windows and Cloud is streaming. It's much worse on Switch where even exclusives are dragged down by terrible hardware (I say this as a Switch owner).
@UltimateOtaku91 "also I mean no dis-respect to playstation or anyone but its the second most wanted console for kids and by kids I mean between 8-17 year olds who want to play fortnite, gta online and fifa"
That and how bad the Xbox One launch was (let's not forget that it was also bigger and more expensive than PS4) is basically why PS4 was king last generation even before it had games. Remember after the first year when Sony said that they were surprised that PS4 was performing so well without first-party new games 😂. The casual crowd and the Xbox One troubled launch were the reason and they managed to succeed during the whole generation.
@Dezzy70 well we will see if playground games can be the first jack of all trades when we see the new Fable as usually they are forza specialists.
I do believe at some point there will be series X dedicated games or some games on series X not being as good as they should be due to developers making the game run of series S as well and as cheap as possible. Though via the cloud those limitations aren't there as I would assume all cloud version games are running off the series X hardware
@UltimateOtaku91 "some games on series X not being as good as they should be due to developers making the game run of series S"
Why? PC, Series X and Series S are all running on Windows, the games don't have to be downgraded because of a lower-specs version.
@BlueOcean yes I will agree with you that the masses want the PlayStation because of those reasons and I wonder how many people mainly use it for entertainment like movies and TV shows, would explain the low attachment rate for some playstation exclusives as even though the games are really good most people just don't care about single players games, I mean I will play all the big AAA games from xbox, playstation and nintendo but just how many people are there who own a ps4/ps5/series S/X that actually care about the big AAA exclusive games?
I'd wager its pretty low
@UltimateOtaku91 That's right, most people play the casual games on both consoles because the casual market is the biggest. Just a few exclusives per generation catch the masses' attention even on Nintendo's consoles that are basically first-party only so most people play Mario and Zelda but few play Metroid, Yoshi, etc.
@UltimateOtaku91
I most definitely do, that’s what I game the biggest and best exclusives on each console and a few big third party titles all mainly single player epic campaigns.
Be it HFW, FH5 or BOTW2.
Bring them all on.
It's awesome that some more people will get to gift them to their kids this Christmas. Happy holidays everyone
@UltimateOtaku91
I agree about the series s it is just another console less powerful when a developer is creating a next generation game from ground up it needs to consider and may limit full potential development of a game on the series x. Surely it has to compared to creating a game just for the series x from the ground up.
That why I don’t like the series s.
@Dezzy70 we are a rare bunch lol I mean people at work think I'm crazy for owning all three, I could happily live off Nintendo's, playstations and xbox's exclusives and never play a multi play again.
@Dezzy70 Hm, developers say that Series S is not an obstacle at all. Series X and S run on Windows. It's more that developers haven't made out the best of Series X and PS5 and the Unreal Engine 5 games haven't been released yet. The only person that said that Series S would be a problem were Sony CEO Jim Ryan and a Sony developer 😂.
@BlueOcean
That’s why Microsoft have changed direction or have they with gamepass, to offer something different to compete. It might work in the USA and some no disrespect poorer countries.
But it won’t work in the UK and Europe, Sony will stroll through with what was built with the PS4 and the PS5 will continue that trend for sure.
@BlueOcean I seem to find that it's only towards the end of a gen that developers find how to get the very best out of the console, for playstation 4 atleast I found that the last three years had the best exclusives and in terms of graphically, with days gone, horizon zero dawn, the last of us part 2, spiderman, God of war and ghost of tsushima.
Same this gen, people think the ps5 and xbox series X games look good now, give it 3-4 more years and they will blown away
@BlueOcean
Come on please.
If developer A had a game for to create from ground up for just all the series x power it would be better than developer B that had to allow some short comings for series s.
Remember a new game and engine from the ground up.
@Dezzy70 Both consoles are running on Windows, it's exactly like a PC game. Are PC games limited by lower-specs PC games?
@UltimateOtaku91 "Same this gen, people think the ps5 and xbox series X games look good now, give it 3-4 more years and they will blown away".
Exactly that. Developers haven't used all of the Series X/PS5 power nor in the best possible way. Even Epic has yet to optimise the Unreal Engine 5 for these consoles. This happens every generation.
@BlueOcean
Yes a game is limited on PC, if you took the most powerful gaming pc you could make within reason and created a game from the ground up for it, it would look and be better than having to allow for lower spec pc.
@Dezzy70 Developers say the opposite about Series X/S but we'll see when Fable releases on both consoles in 2023 😉.
Someone mentioned earlier Playstation exclusives don’t sell all that well, attachment rate wise, this is true.
But somehow they sell consoles.
I mentioned my nephew earlier his poor dad is getting nagged to buy a PS5 because my nephew played Astro bots, ratchet and clank, miles morales at mine today.
Even my daughter a strong Xbox one owner and fan.
Can’t wait to come over she’s 20 and play sack boy adventure and ratchet and clank. Not FH5 or Halo I’m afraid to say.
So Sony exclusives might not have the big attachment rates but they get console sales from them some how.
@BlueOcean
Let’s agree to disagree on this one and time will tell.
@Dezzy70 I know it's off topic but i have just started playing Halo infinite and i agree with you, i am disappointed with the game.
Maybe my expectations were two high but i am not feeling it at the moment.
Playing it on a Xbox One X and maybe it runs better on a Series X but regardless i can't put my finger on it but the game just doesn't feel right. A lot of graphical glitches, pop up and visually, i just find it a little bland.
Only just started playing it and i hope visually it changes a little and also don't enjoy the open world gameplay yet.
@species8472
That was my complainant about the game.
Open world wise when you play say assassins creed vanhalla, far cry 6 graphically, effects and environments, weather systems and different biomes they walk all over halo infinite. It had vastly Under achieved in that particular department.
It should should have been the biggest franchise show case ever made after 6 years, that was my expectations for sure.
@species8472
If you want big adventures and top graphically effects and environments go get a PS5 and wait for Horizon Forbidden West, that game won’t be beaten for over a year on that front.
@Dezzy70 I hope this is the last open world Halo game they do.
I much more prefer the linear style of the earlier games.
Or if they do another one like this make it planet hopping with different visual environments like Metroid Prime. Seven years in development and we get Halo Infinite, kind of shocking.
@species8472
I know what you mean I feel the pain as well.
That’s my concern with Xbox and Microsoft.
If even they mess up more which I hope they don’t.
I still have PS5 and Nintendo Switch and their 2022 line up game wise looks great if they deliver.
I mean HFW and BOTW 2 in the same year to start with.
@Dezzy70 "I know what you mean I feel the pain as well. That’s my concern with Xbox and Microsoft. If even they mess up more which I hope they don’t".
You are right and that's also my concern with Xbox and Microsoft, that all Xbox Game Studios will mess their games up: Fable, Starfield, Avowed, Perfect Dark, Hellblade II, State of Decay 3, Gears 6, Forza Motorsport, The Elder Scrolls VI...
[/sarcasm]
@Dezzy70 Im not worried that Microsoft will mess up their upcoming games as they have learnt from the mistakes made with halo infinite at the beginning and forza was solid, my only concern with xbox is lack of announced games coming next year, so far it's just starfield and redfall which have only have cgi trailers and concept art shown so far so there's a chance they might be delayed to 2023. Compared to playstation and nintendo who have several each planned for 2022 already.
I'm sure Microsoft have some surprises up their sleeves though in terms of first party exclusives releasing next year and hopefully don't plan on adding some third party games on gamepass as a substitute
@BlueOcean
We will see when those games arrive my fellow gamer and the quality of them.
@UltimateOtaku91
I think you are exactly in the same position as me.
Good stuff. Bit of a bummer for anyone who’s already splashed out on a Series S but hopefully this is the way forward now. A truly fantastic games system.
@UltimateOtaku91
Without knowing how many of both PS5 and Series X they had in stock the amount of time they take to sell out doesn’t mean anything
@UltimateOtaku91 That's right but notice that PS5 had less than Xbox this year so it was expected that PS5 would have a good 2022 with many of it games delayed. Nintendo have only developed one exclusive AAA since the Switch launched, Super Mario Odyssey, two counting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 so I mean, any AAA game at all (BotW2) is news. I think that Metroid Prime 4 is far away (on Switch 2) so the whole exclusive first-party AAA portfolio of Switch might end up being Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Breath of the Wild 2 at this rate.
@Medic_Alert hate to be the bearer of fair news but it's horses for courses. Different strokes for different folks. Etc. The PS5 is an amazing machine and I love it. I also love the series X but get very annoyed when people on either side try and tell me I shouldn't be enjoying something. Just annoying.
Great news that Xbox finally reached its critical point of supply and demand. Feels like still a way off for PS5 though.
Let's just celebrate gaming and how great we all have it now and here's to the next year of gaming! Merry Xmas everyone!
@BlueOcean games Nintendo themselves developed is pretty low but they do have a lot of other exclusives even if they are 2nd and 3rd party, such as monster hunter stories 2 and rise, Bravely default 2, mario golf, shin megami, Metroid dread, pokemon, Kirby, rune factory etc
So they can afford to be lazy themselves.
Infact on the topic of Nintendo getting massive third party exclusives, how come no one bat's an eye lid when capcom, square enix, level 5, atlus, platinum games make exclusives for Nintendo but if playstation or xbox get a third party exclusive timed/full the Internet loses its s**t
@BlueOcean I thought playstation and xbox had the same amount of exclusives this year
Halo infinite
Flight simulator
Forza Horizon 5
Returnal
Ratchet and clank Rift Apart
Demon souls remake
Psychonauts was on both and so is the medium, xbox had gunk, playstation had kena Bridge of spirits, playstation had deathloop whilst xbox get it next year.
Both consoles have had a mediocre year definitely not their strongest by a long shot, I would say though that both playstation and xbox have an a better first year this gen that last gen so that's a positive for everyone
There is no Psychonauts 2 for PS5. Demon Souls is a remake, not a new game and Deathloop is on PS5 only because the studio was acquired after Sony's timed exclusivity deal. How come this year is mediocre for Series X/S with Forza Horizon 5, Flight Simulator, Halo Infinite and Psychonauts 2?
@BlueOcean with that logic then halo infinite is also on xbox one, so is Forza horizon 5 and so is psychonauts 2, the only exclusive for the series S/X is flight simulator, whereas playstation has Returnal, Demon souls, Deathloop and ratchet and clank that's exclusive to ps5 and they are not on ps4. So by true next gen exclusives the PlayStation has more so if anything playstation has had a better year for next gen.
Its been mediocre for next gen games
@Medic_Alert to be honest I only like playstation because they have some incredible games. I think the zenimax buy out was a master stroke from MS because basically by restricting so much content from me I had to buy a Series X in order to have access to it. And suprise suprise I've leant that both the PS5 and the Series X are amazing. Who'd have thought it!
On a Christmas/new year theme I must admit 2022 looks to be one hell of an exciting year with Elden Ring, HFW, GoW, starfield, Forspoken, BOTW2 all potential games of the generation just cannot wait! And that's missing out some potential unknown gems that come along. A little Christmas tipsy but super excited!!
@UltimateOtaku91 Demons Souls is not a 2021 game. Also, you can't remove all the cross-platform games because of what I said, it's not the same logic. You are removing games that are on Xbox One and Series X/S, I removed one game because it's not on PS5 but PS4, there is no PS5 version at all while there is an optimised current-gen version of all the Xbox games you removed for Series X/S.
@BlueOcean I wasn't talking about just 2021, I'm talking about the first year of the next gen consoles, 5 true next gen games in 12 months and 4 on one system and its been mediocre to me as
Deathloop - not interested
Demon souls - niche and too hard so not interested
Returnal - niche was too hard and lost interest
Flight simulator - not interested
Ratchet and clank - good but its more of the same and too short
So to me this first year of next gen games has been mediocre.
My ps5 and series S have mainly been used to play games that I could get on last gen consoles, that's why I say this first year has been mediocre for both, but that's just me, I'm sure there's plenty of people who have enjoyed those games.
Argos and GAME had PS5’s for a few hours each during the week. It’s becoming easier to get a hold of these consoles finally. Kinda hard to see the real picture without knowing numbers in stock and shipped and the Series consoles alone are muddled due to there being an S/X. Has the S taken sales away from the X in some cases, I’d have thought so.
Xbox was never gonna out sell PlayStation this gen let’s be real. PlayStation has positioned itself as the trendy must have gaming console over the last 7 or so years. Now they’re reaping the benefits by raising prices and having a fanbase that loves being taken advantage of
I’m sure as long as the S/X sell well in their own right MS will be happy. It doesn’t need to match Sonys sales although I’m sure they’d love to but they know the position they’re currently in as well as anyone.
@Medic_Alert completely agree about Sony’s pricing policies. On the PS store they are asking £80 (or £72 with EA play) for Grid Legends!!! On the Xbox store it’s £72 for the deluxe edition, or just £54 for the standard. I have both PS5 and XSX, but will only buy multi-platform games on the Xbox. My PS5 is strictly reserved for exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West, GT7 and God of War Ragnarok.
@Nightcrawler71 Grid Legends is £59.99 on the PlayStation store or £79.99 for the deluxe, so £8 difference which I suppose adds up the more games you buy
@UltimateOtaku91 oops, didn’t see the £60 version. Cheers 👍 (will still be buying it on Xbox though!)
@Fenbops
Well done a fully rounded and honest response to all us debating it on here.
As for taking advantage of the fan base, I have all three consoles and would gladly pay £70 for HFW over £55 for Halo Infinite.
Campaign wise and adventuring wise, gameplay wise and shear graphical environmental wonder and size and scope of the game is easy worth and extra £15 to me.
The same goes if I had to pay £70 for BOTW 2.
The same also goes if Xbox release an exclusive worth my £70, maybe an epic and legendary gears 6 that is pure out of this world AAA in all areas.
I want the very best that the developer can give me and I’m willing to pay that £70.
@Fenbops It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft joins Sony and various 3rd parties in the $70 pricing once native XB1 support is over.
The only XGS game so far not to release on XB1 was Flight Sim but that game had to be priced at $60 given it's a Play Anywhere game so had to match the PC price already made back in August 2020. Everything else had Smart Delivery attached which meant it had to be same price as XB1 version.
There's a few native XB1 XGS games left to be released:
After that it seems we're in PC/Series X|S only territory so outside of a surprise AoE Play Anywhere meaning same price as already existing PC release it seems we'll soon find out what Microsoft's pricing strategy is for Series X|S.
@Spaceman-Spiff I've sold 2 and just have another 2 to sell that I have then I'm out!
@Dezzy70 "Series X being stock for long periods especially in the UK at the minute might also be a sign of sales slowing down, which in turn won’t give Sony a kick up the bottom".
The PS5 stock is still available at Game. PS5 is doomed like Series X!
@BlueOcean
Noticed that, though dam Game did have them hidden behind bundles earlier not sure now.
You try to purchase a console on its own and it says out of stock, when adding to basket.
Don’t care what console, they shouldn’t hide them in bundles.
Curry’s still have series x hidden behind a bundle, don’t like this practice shop scalpers.
@Dezzy70 I just hope that both consoles are available soon for everybody so people stop paying Ebay prices.
@BlueOcean
Well you can get both right now just about, but hidden behind bundles in shops. Which doesn’t help the general public.
Was surprised just before Christmas how all this stock appeared out of nowhere. For a couple of days it was like normal buying.
@Dezzy70 I posted that, I am aware, that's what I said everybody. You know, the world.
@BlueOcean
The world gets crazier by the day and 2022 won’t be any better.
Let's hope that it gets better and also mankind, in general.
