It was announced back in the summer that GTA Online was going offline forever on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in December, and that moment happened yesterday — it's officially no longer available on the two consoles.
To mark the occasion, lots of fans took to social media yesterday to share their favourite memories of playing GTA Online (as part of GTA V) on those systems, with many suggesting it was the "best" version of the game to date.
We can't imagine there are too many people who will be disappointed by the news, but the game was remaining fairly well populated until the final day. It's still available on Xbox One and PS4, of course, as well as next-gen consoles.
Interestingly, GTA IV is still playable online on Xbox 360, so there's your alternative if you want one.

With a friend, at the very beginning of the game, when it was worth bringing cars to Simeon's, we put remote control C4s at the entrance of his garage and we wisely waited for a player in the lobby to have the good idea to go get the car Simeon wanted. He then had to repaint it, then avoid possible attack from other players (10 minutes or so of his time). I will let you guess the rest when, finally, he managed to bring the car back to its destination ... Booom! And the insults were raining down!
@homme_parametre Stuff like that is why I quickly lost interest in GTA Online. It didn't take long until I was spending the vast majority of my time in my own private lobbies. It's basically always been griefer central.
Anyways I can't say that I feel any kind of loss here as this game is still huge on last gen consoles and they got a next gen update right around the corner, it's not going anywhere.
@JayJ Same. Just wasn't fun to be constantly griefed.
Was tempted to get the online achievements but still in the middle of a Halo Wars grind....
