We've still got a busy September ahead for Xbox Game Pass, and last week was full of new additions to the library, including the popular puzzle game Superliminal which seems to be making a lot of new fans on Xbox.
Game Pass subscribers have been taking to social media to share their praise for the game (which first released for Xbox back in July 2020), described as a "mind-bending first-person puzzler" in which you escape a surreal dream world through solving impossible puzzles using the ambiguity of depth and perspective.

There are loads of similar comments about Superliminal to be found, and the only real downside we're noticing (aside from the slightly short runtime) is that it actually makes some people feel motion sick, possibly due to the fact it's capped at 30fps. That said, the developer has suggested 60fps on Xbox Series X|S is a "maybe" in the future.
Have you had a chance to try Superliminal with Xbox Game Pass yet? Let us know your thoughts on it below.

This looks insane, seems a perfect fit for VR
Enjoying it so far, one or two times I've got stuck so hard I had to get a tip (then have a "doh!" moment when I realised I was just being dumb).
It's the kind of little puzzle game I've loved Game Pass for as I wouldn't have tried them much otherwise.
@UltimateOtaku91 I know it's not deliberate but this is exactly my point about your mindset potentially leading you to post things that will irritate others (and indeed I read your comments thinking "how on earth could he find a negative to this?!").
Xbox doesn't have VR - so why the need to say it would be better on there? Could stick to the first part "this looks insane" which is fine.
I'm aware you won't see the issue mentioning VR, but the underlying message reads as "I'll wait to play the better version of this on PSVR", even if you meant PC or just want Xbox to do a headset.
It's not deliberate I imagine but it's just the same "what's the negative take here" on many comments
@Widey85 because it would be cool on VR as just the idea and look of it screams VR. I don't even have a playstation VR and wont until they come down in price, VR isn't even that popular to even think of using it as a troll comment anyway, and yes I've tried the oculus VR and the one with my old Samsung s10 and enjoyed it
I've been meaning to play this game for a long time and I'm glad that it's on Game Pass now. It looks like such a cool and unique experience. Will definitely be checking it out the next time I'm subscribed to the service.
@UltimateOtaku91 Fair enough - I just meant in the same way Game Pass is a dirty word on PushSquare, VR is a sore spot over here for many.
My partner has PSVR and Oculus - I do like it but I've got a dog which makes it almost impossible to play at mine, and yes the games are more like this - short and more interactive than most.
I don't think I'd get an Xbox VR for these kinds of games (too much tripping over the dog) but I'd be intrigued for Forza / Flight Sim (as I could sit down) - but no idea if I'd hate it given I never use cockpit view on any game as I find it too disorientating (or just grew up with outside view on TOCA / Colin McRae)
@UltimateOtaku91 @Widey85 I don't want to derail this comments section (so please don't respond to me about this), but I'll just say this:
If people want to constructively discuss other platforms on Pure Xbox in relation to a topic, I have no problems whatsoever with that. The issue is when it descends into fights over which brand is better and people get "flamed", in which case it breaks our Community Rules and bans will eventually be handed out.
Thanks for your understanding on this (and let's stay on topic about Superliminal here please 👍)
@LtSarge Myst and Call of the Sea worth a look too when you do (if not played already) - I probably liked both of them a bit more than this.
Forbidden City isn't on GP but that's similar puzzle-solving done differently
@Widey85 that's understandable and I think eventually xbox will have their own VR device but I don't think it's really taking off, I believe the PlayStation VR flopped.
In terms of games I prefer the slow paced and puzzle ones but anything with a lot of moving and camera movements just makes me feel sick and gives me an headache for a few days, I mainly use my Samsung vr for watching videos as it puts a virtual cinema screen infront of you, literally like being at the cinema but without the annoying kids
@Widey85 Yeah I've played through Call of the Sea and it was an amazing game! Haven't played Myst yet, so I'm definitely adding that to my list of games to play on GP.
@UltimateOtaku91 I suspect I might be the same, given how on a game like Ace Combat or Star Wars Squadrons I get so lost and disorientated trying to turn to shoot enemies.
The Superliminal developer has said VR might not be possible on this one given the viewport difference and perspective issues, so seems it might never cross over - but I find it pretty mind-bending even on the TV lol.
Apologies for likely being over-sensitive to criticism of Xbox btw - my partner's friend group are all Sony fans, and because I can't really get into it with them I have to bite my tongue.
So all the responses and triggers get stored instead and have probably come out here. All I can do is bide my time and wait for the first of the group to crack when big exclusives start arriving from next year - but while I bet their narrative might change I'll still end up biting my tongue lol
@Widey85 apology accepted I'm to blame for getting abit defensive myself but honestly meant no criticism aimed at xbox in general, both xbox and playstation have some heavy hitters coming next year so will a packed 2022 for me plus Nintendos stuff like breath of the wild 2 and pokemon legends so plenty to look forward to whatever system you game on, this year has been a poor one for me, for xbox the only new gen game I've played is the medium and on playstation 5 it's been destruction all stars and ratchet and clank but so far this year there hasn't been a game from either Sony or Microsoft that I could say is a game of the year contender
@UltimateOtaku91 Yep while I like Superliminal I don't think it's going to be my GOTY lol.
Lake or Last Stop might be, first was a really, really chill game and the latter hooked me on the story - Forbidden City maybe too.
For big games I think it's only really been Hitman 3, however much Flight Sim blew me away. I guess I'm hoping FH5 and Halo:I make up the difference later in the year.
Would be interested to see what the Superliminal team could do with a bigger budget though - that might very well end up being a GOTY contender for me then
@UltimateOtaku91
If anything a VR version would be too easy as you wouldn't be tricked by forced perspective with stereoscopic vision.
I played it last weekend. A couple hours to do my first playthrough, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's these smaller experiences that are Game Pass' biggest strength.
I'd liken the game to Portal with a dash of the Stanley Parable (particularly in visuals). It's the kind of puzzles that you can really only do in a videogame.
Okay, can some hobby shrink please tell me what is happening? Because this is a bit unsettling. Not trying to trash talk this game, but when I play it, it kinda feels like my brain is actively fighting against what I'm seeing on screen. After some minutes I'm getting a bit aggravated. It's not the puzzles, I can get behind them, it's just what is happening in the game. Never felt that before. Help!
