Diablo 2: Resurrected launched yesterday, and while many long time fans have been excited to jump in, it hasn't been without a few day one issues. Users have reported not being able to log in, connectivity problems and even losing their save data entirely.
The issues seem to stem from Diablo 2: Resurrected's online connectivity. While it is possible to play the game offline, this is only after logging in via Battle.net, from our own experience. It seems some players have been reporting issues getting past this screen since launch and others have been plagued by other roadblocks. Even some Pure Xbox users have commented across the site to share their issues.
According to the game's FAQ page on Blizzard's site: "Single Player mode may be played offline, but a connection to the internet will be required on occasion for periodic updates and authentication checks". It seems the first check is upon initial launch, which has become something of a problem.
Blizzard has been updating users on social media on the issues, including problems surrounding players losing character progression, but Reddit and Twitter users still appear to be running into problems at the time of writing.
It's puzzling that a game that has a fully-fledged single-player campaign requires any sort of internet connection at all. This isn't the first instance of Blizzard titles running into day one problems such as this, with Diablo 3 hitting similar problems on its launch (thanks, PC Gamer).
Of course, these will be fixed in due course, but it still begs the question as to why these avoidable issues are in the game thanks to its mandatory online connection. Let's hope these are sorted sooner rather than later.

I couldn't log in on launch, and my created character disappeared. But later that night it let me log in and my character was restored as well.
Has it? They could have fooled me! 24 hours I've been pressing 'A' on the loading screen in an effort to play the game, only to have to press 'A' again a few seconds later after I failed to connect to Battle.Net. Not once have I successfully logged in, and I have literally been trying for hours and hours...
Considering they did a Beta it’s surprising the game still has launch issues. I couldn’t login at first (when trying to create my character’s name) but as soon as I switched to playing offline it was fine. Still hate the fact you have to create an account at Battle.net before you can even start playing 🙄
What really gets me is that the Switch, the least secure of all the platforms, has a proper offline mode. It is actually the only platform that does.
Insane that such a game changing feature is platform exclusive.
I was there for d3 launch and that took a few days to finally get straight. Couldn’t get in for hours. Had to redo the first chapter which was the beta to begin with. Got my account hacked and I never played in open groups.
At this rate.. the game will be on sale by Christmas.
LOL you have to log in to play offline. Fail.
Has anybody noticed that playing on Xbox Series X quality mode it’s has a lot of frame rate drops?
And performance mode runs well but is pretty blurry maybe 1080p? I was thinking they advertised this game would run 4K60 on series X…
