Xbox has announced a new wired Stereo Headset, launching on September 21 for £54.99 / $59.99.
The new peripheral looks to be a more affordable alternative to the Xbox Wireless Headset, which was released earlier this year. Compared to that one, the new Xbox Stereo Headset will be wired but will still include "clear microphone performance, high-quality ear cushions, and a volume control dial on the right earcup".
Microsoft is calling it an "entry-level headset", featuring many of the design elements found in the more expensive Xbox Wireless Headset. It features an adjustable headband with plush cushioning, ultra-soft large earcups, and easily accessible volume controls.
Audio on the Xbox Stereo Headset will also support "high-fidelity spatial sound technologies including Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone".
"We are pleased to announce our Xbox Stereo Headset, available for pre-order today. With the new Xbox Stereo Headset, we are bringing everything you expect from Xbox products like performance, stand-out features, quality, and accessibility to deliver immersive experiences across console, PC, and mobile devices. We also wanted to bring you more value to the entry-level headset category, including clear microphone performance, high-quality ear cushions, and a volume control dial on the right earcup."
Pre-orders are available via the Microsoft Store, with a price of £54.99 / $59.99. As highlighted, this could be the perfect alternative for when your wireless headset is out of charge as well, or if you want to play on your PC. But most importantly, it's a perfect entry-level headset, complete with many of the features found in the Xbox Wireless Headset.

I love my wireless headset and think it was well worth the money. That said, it is a pain in the bum having to make sure my Series S is unplugged when I want to listen to something on my phone or tablet. A way to disable boot up every time I switch them on would be much appreciated.
Really thinking I may snag a pair of these. Haven't done a lot of multiplayer for the past year or so but plan to dive all the way back in with BF2042. I had been using a set of Sony Wireless Gold plugged in which has obviously been an imperfect match on Xbox.
I know it's off topic, but i would have thought getting more X Box Series X consoles in stores would be and should be Microsoft's top priority.
@species8472 Chip Shortage. Companies shouldn't stop making other products because of a chip shortage. Plus they use chips to upgrade their servers so we are in a bind on shortages. Finally, the games coming out this fall-winter are pretty huge so finding one in the wild will be hard unless there is huge shipments coming.
@Halucigens I understand and there are more important things to worry about right now but i just find it really frustrating that i can't go to a store and buy a Series X. Sony seem to be releasing PS5s at a much more regular occurence than Microsoft for some reason.
This is a nice idea.
I have the wireless version and they are great, this is a nice alternative for those who would like a wired headset, and a cheaper version too.
I love how many accessories and stuff Xbox are branching into at the moment. It feels like every couple of weeks there's something new.
While this isn't for me personally, it's great for gamers to have more options
How can you guys prefer wired headsets with Xbox? Whenever I try to use a wired headset with my Xbox I can hear every time I speak static and a weird sound. Wired is rubbish with Xbox.
My son has snagged my turtle beach head set so I might get a pair of these.
@Snake_V5 My wired Bose GC35II works great.
@Halucigens Every wired headset I've used is exactly the same. They all every time I speak have a weird noise as I speak. I've recorded my voice and played it back and I can hear it. I've even tried my PlayStation Gold Headset wired with it and still the same. I've even tried my Samsung Galaxy AKG earphones and it's still there.
@species8472 Sony has a different chip I think and Microsoft needs chips for Azure servers too. This is just my thoughts on it though I could be completely wrong.
I totally get you. I got friends that want one as well. I took the day off and waited in line on opening day to get mine and really happy with my decision because I would of been agitated myself doing all the searches and twitters.
@Snake_V5 Not sure. I know my friend was having a hard time with bringing his sony one over to xbox with static and hissing like you are saying. Mine seems to work fine and I haven't tried my other headsets on it. I try to do wired connections when latency could be an issue. But the controller is wireless so my thoughts might be rubbish. I'm just happy mine works.
@Snake_V5
I use 3 different wired headsets, with 2 different controllers. All sound perfect - maybe your controller is bust?
@DaverDaver No, my controller is new. It did the same thing when I tried it on my Xbox One S too.
@Snake_V5 @SplooshDmg
If the power strip thing is an issue you can try an isolator like Tripp Lite makes where each socket is isolated from the next. If there's line interference that can be an issue.
Or you can do what the audiophiles do for this sort of problem and buy a $1250 Pangaea power distributor and a $240 power cable made of magic dust and thicker than a garden hose.
I'll probably just buy a wireless headset instead.
@SplooshDmg I had the wireless headset and it kept cutting out on my PC with the newest Xbox wireless dongle. It would also cut out on my XSX but not nearly as much. I think my Xbox was plugged into a strip, but not sure about the issue on my PC. I gave the headset to my roommate because she was not having the issue on her Xbox 1X, which I believe is plugged into the wall.
Great deal for 60 bucks
