We'd known for a while now that Xbox Cloud Gaming was coming to console at some point, following its previously successful launch for mobile and PC, and now we have an official release window of holiday 2021.
It will be made available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users, and it will be as simple as clicking on the game you want to play on the Game Pass app. The target is to run cloud games on console at up to 1080p, 60fps.
And yes, because of the way Xbox Cloud Gaming works, this means you'll be able to access Xbox Series X|S games on your Xbox One through the power of the cloud, including exclusives such as Microsoft Flight Simulator. However, according to an article over on Xbox Wire, this feature will be "coming in the future", so presumably not at launch.
"Bottom line? Cloud gaming on your console further reduces your time to fun! All you have to do is navigate to Xbox Game Pass and look for games with the cloud icon.
We’ll begin testing the experience as part of our Xbox Insider program this fall, so that we can gather valuable feedback and improve the experience."

It looks like somebody believes in generations. All of them running the newest games, that is.

Great news for data on my series s!!
As a Series S owner and xCloud fan this makes me very happy
This is going to make reward quests so much easier.
RIP Stadia and Luna. Stadia tried to beat MS to the cloud scene and just couldn't do it
Is this what MS meant when they said X1 would increase in power thanks to the cloud? This was years ago, so probably not, but it's a fun thought.
@Aggirivator yes. It’s an extra option they’re giving you.
@Aggirivator As long as the 'hardare' is designed to play that 'software' - then yes of course!
You wouldn't download Flight Sim to an Xbox One console to play locally, because that software is NOT designed for that hardware so the ONLY way to play it on an Xbox One would be via streaming.
However, on Series S/X, you can 'try' the game first by opting to stream it, no need to wait for downloads/installations/updates and then, if you want to, download and play locally.
It really depends on the hardware. MS have spoken about having a Game Pass 'App' built into a TV that also allows you to play ANY Game Pass title via streaming. Of course you are NOT going to play games locally on a TV either but illustrates the point that if the 'software' is designed to run locally on it, you can still download and play locally. If not, then you can still play via streaming....
Despite basically enabling even more 'devices' to be a 'Series' console (albeit Virtual/in the cloud), thus enabling Xbox gamers a CHOICE, Sony fanboys will still go on about how the PS5 sells more...
@Aggirivator It sounds like an incredible update - when it comes. I have a Series X myself and I see it more of a benefit to 'trying' games.
Despite having GPU, one of the barriers is the time taken to download and install a game - more than the space it could potentially occupy. Instead of having to try and decide if a game is worth the hassle of waiting to download, I could literally play it instantly via streaming.
If one of your friends is playing Back 4 Blood and invited you to play, you could literally jump straight in despite not having the game installed locally - no waiting to download...
