The upcoming free-to-play shooter Splitgate is already turning into one of the surprise video game success stories of 2021.
In less than a month, the open beta of this Halo and Portal-inspired game has now reached 10 million downloads. In response to this, the developer 1047 Games is now thinking about extending the game's beta, as it takes more time to prepare for the final release.
In other words, it might not be fully released in the month of August now.
As teased, players of Splitgate can also look forward to an announcement of sorts at this year's Gamescom, taking place on 25th August.
Splitgate's "mission" according to the developers is to revive the genre many grew up on and show newer games what they've been missing out on:
"Our mission is to help bring back the genre we grew up on and show new gamers what they’ve been missing. Quake, Halo, UT have a special place in our hearts and Splitgate is an homage to them all."

i love it when you can get into the servers which are almost always full, not because that many are playing it but because they have had limited server space. for a while they couldnt have more then 60k players on at a time....
Server issues seem massively better now... Rarely have to queue (and it's very quick on the odd occasion I have had to wait).
Graphically looks a bit dated, but it's LOTS of fun to play... I'm interested to see how the Halo Infinite multiplayer compares.
Love the simplicity... No faffing about with loadouts.
Probably spending more time on this game than any other at the moment.
I played this several months ago and it seemed well done even back then. It was fun, but it just wasn't enough to pull me away from Halo, Battlefield, COD, Battlefront, PvZ, etc..
