Call of Duty: Vanguard had its big official unveiling earlier today, with the game set to arrive for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 5, and to the surprise of no one, it's going to take up plenty of storage space.
However, despite a listing of 270.05GB cropping up on the Microsoft Store (causing plenty of panic!), it turns out the base game starts at a more reasonable 75GB on Xbox One, and 95GB on Xbox Series X and Series S.
As The Verge's Tom Warren notes above, the figure of 270.05GB appears to reference everything featured in the Cross-Gen bundle, which includes both the Xbox One and Series X|S versions of the game, the upcoming betas for the respective consoles, and five 10.11MB content packs.
We've checked, and all of that content does indeed add up to just over 270GB. Phew!
Of course, there's still the potential for some massive day-one and future updates, so we may as well get used to the fact that Call of Duty: Vanguard will be a sizeable game as expected. But at least it won't be 270GB!

I only just got a Series S, but have found the Microsoft Store / Game Pass is frequently unreliable when it comes to game size. Not as bad as the above example, but often more than the maximum GB quoted. It's frustrating when trying to plan download times or manage available space.
Finally, reasonable size!
@uptownsoul You should try ARK Survival Evolved, it's well over 100GB big, on PC it's about 170GB.
I think in a couple of years we'll probably be at the point where the XSS will only hold 1 new game at a time. Releasing the consoles at 500GB and 1TB was a bit crazy of both MS and Sony. Those were the sizes the XBO and PS4 ran at, and game sizes have definitely increased in the last 10 years.
I really enjoyed WWII and still play it so I'm looking forward to this. Was not impressed with Coldwar.
I will play this I’m not sure when it releases or down the line
I want to enjoy COD but I always felt the level designer who they poached from Bungie got a raw deal. They only hired him based on his fantastic use of a ruler and pencil in padding out Halo CE with endless corridors and this is all they got.
Looking forward to this. However the one thing I would say is, as someone who never dabbles in anything outside the main campaign, now that they are capable of dividing a game into separate chunks to facilitate manageable download sizes, it would be really nice if you could literally purchase just the bits you want, with an overall discount if you were to buy the complete package. The fact that they can now enable you to download the single-player component separately from the multiplayer, says that this is definitely an option they could offer. It would obviously work the other way too for those that are solely interested in the multiplayer experience.
@Originut Thing is, I'm not even talking a huge discount; perhaps 10 or 20 off the overall asking price. I accept your argument would very possibly happen, but particularly in the case of CoD, Warzone is already essentially free with microtransactions and map packs (at least, that's my understanding bearing in mind I have no interest in the multiplayer, I'm not entirely sure that's how it works). So selling the main campaign at a lesser price, and then offering the Zombie mode and the multiplayer as separately paid for add ons.
The other thing that strikes me is that we hear so often that the majority that play the multiplayer don't even touch the campaign, so I'm sure those in that particular camp would prefer to not be paying for the campaign that they don't actually want.
