Welcome to another weekend! The next couple of days are dominated by E3 2021, of course, including Xbox and Bethesda's massive E3 2021 showcase on Sunday, but there's still plenty of other goodness to check out on Xbox including a batch of new Xbox Game Pass and Free Play Days titles, along with the huge Xbox E3 2021 sale!
Here's what we’re jumping into over the weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, News Editor
It's E3 2021 weekend, so you're not going to find me playing too many games over the next couple of days, although I am very keen to play more of Wreckfest's recent Xbox Series X 'upgrade', along with Dragon Quest XI S which isn't typically my type of game, but thanks to Xbox Game Pass I've been really enjoying it recent weeks.
When I'm not busy covering the news for E3 though, I'm going to be diverting the majority of my attention to the start of Euro 2020, which kicked off last night. Wales are starting their campaign in the tournament today, England are playing tomorrow, and I'm going to fill in the gaps by playing the official competition inside eFootball PES 2021!
That's it for me... have a good weekend, and we'll see you for Xbox's big E3 event this Sunday.
Daniel Hollis, News Reporter
Well, it's E3, so you probably won't find me playing much, but I will be squeezing in some things between conferences. Mostly, I'll be sticking with CrossCode, an Xbox Game Pass title I've become enamoured with. It's a weird hybrid of Sword Art Online and Zelda, but works so well. It also has a beautiful art style that makes every frame a stunner.
As for everything else, I'm going to be a bit of a traitor and play on my (new!) Game Boy Advance SP. I picked one up in a local retro gaming store with Banjo Pilot and The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap. It set me back a bit, but I've always wanted to play Banjo Pilot as its the only game in the franchise I've never played, and Zelda is an all-time favourite. Getting my Rare fix in some way, at least.
Enjoy the E3 weekend, everyone!
What Xbox games are you playing this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

Doodle God (Windows Phone) - Still playing this on and off.
Battleship (Windows Phone) - Need to get back to this.
Lines: The Game (Windows Phone) - Making nice progress on this.
Will be playing some more ReCore on Xbox One. It's been a fun game overall with some issues with its open world. I'm only a couple of hours away from the ending so I'm looking forward to finally wrapping it up this weekend.
On PS4 I'll be playing Trails of Cold Steel IV and Observer, while on 360 I just started up Forza Motorsport 4. Not a whole lot of exciting games but the change of pace is definitely a breath of fresh air compared to all the games I've been playing recently.
I'm still working my way through Yakuza 5, wasn't expecting it A)transition into a Jpop Idol simulator or B)do it surprisingly well.
Dark souls 3 on ps5 and some Pokemon Snap on switch
In between work and the Euros, of course I'll be playing Rift Apart. So far it is excellent! Also picked up a Series S for less than triple digits, so will fire up something on Game Pass.
Have a good one folks!
Microsoft best release some AAA games from E3
Soon.
Then Microsoft might sell some of the over 1300 series s consoles that are sitting on shop shelves in Smyths Toys across their stores in the uk right now.
Yes a 7 month old new next generation console.
Microsoft really know what they are doing,
They have turned the glory xbox360 days into a joke.
@Dezzy70 I'm pretty sure that E3 is going to be a big disappointment
@Chaudy
I hope not, I only moan because I lived and loved the xbox360 glory days. A great Game console and games empire turned into what it is now by a trillion dollar company.
At worst it will be Halo gameplay that will look last generation but they will boast its native 4K 60 to 120fps on series x. Release this year.
Maybe Forza Horizon 5 that should be good but has a massive battle to beat the amazing FH4 set in the UK with seasons.
Many many indie games and some in house studios games maybe gameplay releasing when who knows.
Drone on about game pass and a load of old games Ive already played in the glory xbox360 days with some upgrades.
That’s where my expectations are at.
@Dezzy70 my expectations are extremely low. I think we will obviously get Halo gameplay and release date but a chunk of that presentation will be dedicated to Battlefield. As for GamePass I think they will just bring on old Bethesda titles like Fallout 3, Evil Within 2 and Doom 2016. I dont think we will get anything on starfield other then a cgi trailer. There will be no other Bethesda titles.
@Chaudy
Well I hope they do better than that.
As series consoles are already sitting on shelf’s in the UK.
As for battlefield some of my young graduates at work, 21-25 year olds were getting excited about that game and looking at buying a next generation console for it, they talked about the duelsense controller, so guess what they will be buying.
@Dezzy70 yeah I think to really turn the tide, Microsoft needs to get some big third party games on Game Pass. Especially 2-3 more day 1 releases like Far Cry 6 but most importantly they need to now show something worth talking about from the 23 studios they have. They cannot simply just push Halo in our faces again. It really is time for them to give us something amazing.
@Chaudy
Well let’s hope they do, I shall be watching with extreme low expectations.
If it is poor they will just fall further behind in sales of consoles and more will sit on shelf’s.
If I owned a company that had 1300 next generation consoles sitting on shop shelves not selling this early on I would be looking at a reshuffle of management.
Some say consoles sales don’t count. If you sell a console you can sell a game pass.
Unless and I think is for them to leave the console making to others and just sell game pass in the future. But even then they need to put new AAA top end games on game pass to sell it more.
As Sony and Nintendo will be outputting their top end AAA games for sure.
@Dezzy70 I completely agree with everything you are saying. Will be watching with vert low expectations
@Chaudy
They should have never lost the COD and FIFA advertising and dlc etc rights.
Also the Euros and football sponsorship Sony do.
They need to learn trendy in Europe is to be associated with football, then you products become automatically associated and trendy as well.
@Dezzy70 yeah PlayStation sponsors champions league. I've never seen an xbox sponsor in the UK come to think of it.
I'm becoming totally addict to Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. It's a complete new game, despite its title.
It's Phantasy Star Online 3, really.
New mechanics, new world (and a beautifull one), new story (yeah, there's one, this time ! A classic, but engaging one) and especially new graphics.
After a couple of hours in the game, you unlock the option to go back to the old version (you can choose your version, when you launch the game) and... its... just horrible. Going back to the old one, which I really loved since its western launch, is impossible for me, right now.
Because New Genesis is just too good, too beautifull. Oh, and if you try it on Series X, you'd be wise to choose the "graphics" option (pushing all effect to maximum) and then, in the game menu, go select the framerate to boost it to 60. It will be no problem for the SX
Hopefully I will be playing Evil Within 2 if it comes to Game Pass tomorrow. Otherwise I'm not quite sure which game I'll start next: probably Alan Wake's American Nightmare or the remake of Resident Evil 2. I might try to whittle away at Hyrule Warriors AoC in the meantime.
Going to be a weekend of watching football and E3, but il get some biomutant, persona 5 strikers and the medium in between
I'm still playing Zelda BOTW, This game is just amazing..
@The_New_Butler what? This is the best next gen game so far. Clearly impossible to achieve those visuals on PS4
Far Cry 5 -
Looking forward to Dark Alliance.
I’ve finished up Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I hope there’s a new Tomb Raider game in the works soon because I really enjoyed the reboot trilogy. I did end up buying the old games in a sale some time ago so I might try them out and see how they stand for me. I just started playing Little Nightmares since I wanted something smaller before I jump into another larger game- maybe Fallout 4 since I started it for that extra MS Rewards last month and was intrigued.
Anyway enjoy the weekend everyone and here’s hoping for some cool news this weekend and Tuesday ( Nintendo Direct!).
Recently started GreedFall and PSO2 New Genesis.
The first one, although nothing revolutionary technically and gameplay-wise, is a decent rpg with a nice story and characters and interesting world building.
The second is a different beast. A pseudo-mmo with fun combat and a very fluid class system. I do hope it doesn't become too much of a grindfest further down the road which i'd guess is a false hope since these types of games have grinding in their dna. We'll see....
@Bobobiwan Thx for the tip btw. The game does look awesome with quality mode and 60 fps.
I changed from a PS5 to an Xbox Series X the other week. This weekend I’m enjoying how gorgeous AC Valhalla looks on the Series X compared to the PS5.
Just finished Mass Effect Trilogy. What a ride. Loved loved loved this series.
Thought Phantasy star online new genesis would have been an option, anywho that’s what I’m playing!
Been playing Ratchet an Demon’s Souls an done a few more races on Forza Horizon. Not played much as it’s coming home!!! ⚽️⚽️⚽️
Been on with Demon’s Souls since PS5 release!! It’s so hard!!! 😡😡😡
@The_New_Butler I disagree! By that point of view any game can be ported back to older consoles if you start cutting stuff out. This is probably the one and only next gen game we have so far
@The_New_Butler I understand what you are saying, but I think you're thinking too far ahead with the next gen thing.
