When Mass Effect Legendary Edition was announced, there was one question on many fan's minds: Where is Mass Effect 3's multiplayer? While the collection brings all three games into one lovely package, the multiplayer is nowhere to be seen, which left the community slightly miffed. But there is some hope on the horizon, as the game's project director has spoken out about the possibility of it arriving in the future.
In a recent interview with CNET, Mac Walters was asked about the possibility of the multiplayer being added to Mass Effect Legendary Edition in the future. While not providing a definitive answer, Walters stated he "would never say no", and it ultimately comes down to the reception of the game.
"I would never say no to that — we want to see what kind of reception the Legendary Edition gets and what the demand for the multiplayer is. And then we'll ask ourselves if we have the resources and time to bring it up to the quality level we and fans want."
In an interview with IGN earlier this year, Walters expanded on the reasons behind its emission. He cited the "challenges" behind bringing it in, and how the work to do so would have surpassed that of ensuring that the original Mass Effect was modernised.
"It obviously had a lot of challenges. Everything from what you do with crossplay, because that's kind of an expectation now; what you do with people who are still playing multiplayer now — how do you honor that, how do you bring them in, can we somehow bridge that gap? And of course these aren't insurmountable challenges, there are things that we can do to fix that problem and get multiplayer in there.
"But when you look at the amount of effort that it was going to take to do that, it was easily commensurate if not greater than uplifting all of Mass Effect 1, and I think our focus was on the single-player experience."
The multiplayer grew something of a cult following when it originally launched alongside Mass Effect 3 in 2012. Taking the guise of a horde mode, players could pick a class, team up with some friends, and take down waves of enemies across a variety of missions. Whether this mode will come back remains to be seen, but the community is fairly vocal about wanting its integration, and reception of the game seems to widely be positive.

If it was released as a free to play game i think it would do well for EA as it already has lootboxes in it.
The multiplayer in Andromeda was SO good! 3 was good too, but I’d rather have the Andromeda combat.
You know how you get people that play Call of Duty, or even Gears of War, and never play the campaign, well, I'm not like that! However, I still rank in the top 1% Worldwide for the multiplayer aspect of Mass Effect on the PC, despite not having touched it for around 3 years, after putting in well over 800 hours on (on the PC), and around another 300 hours on the Xbox 360 version. By contrast, I would imagine that I spent only a about a 300 hours on the single-player campaigns on the Xbox, and none at all on the PC version. The multiplayer is by far my preferred component of the original trilogy. I'm the opposite with CoD, where I never touch the multiplayer, and with Gears, I have played most of the campaigns to death (Gears 5 I have been through multiple times on Inconceivable and on other difficulties) and I am currently ranked in the top 100 Worldwide as a Mechanic on Gears 5 Horde, yet have absolutely zero hours on the multiplayer.
Now, if you had said to me, would you rather have the original 3 games of Mass Effect remastered, or the multiplayer from ME3, but you can only have one, then I'm likely to be in the minority, because I would much preferred to have had the multiplayer. In fact, I would have bitten your hand off...
Id much rather them put the effort into porting the game to the Switch. Multiplayer just isn't necessary and i think it would sell very well on the Switch
@Xenomorph_79 I personally loved the MP, and the SP is already done, so it won’t hurt anything if they decide to add it.
