The Ascent is an upcoming twin-stick shooter that relishes its cyberpunk setting. It's already been confirmed to be coming to Game Pass on day one, and now we have a release date of July 29 for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One and PC.
From the minds of classic Xbox titles such as Gears of War, Bulletstorm, and Wolfenstein, players will be able to tackle this isometric RPG alone or with up to three other friends. Next-gen owners on Xbox Series X|S will also be able to take full advantage of 60FPS with full 4K support.
Features:
- A free-roam play style in a cyberpunk inspired dystopian world Classic RPG mechanics to enable players to build up their character including cyberware, augmentations and looting.
- An unprecedented sense of verticality within its world, with different levels and platforms discernible within play.
- Double-aim mechanic enables players to utilise the full screen and choose between multiple targets anywhere in the environment.
- A narrative-led adventure playable in single and up to four-player co-op modes.
Everything we've seen so far has our interest piqued, and the art style is gorgeous, with every frame bathed in neon lighting. Having co-op included is perfect for Xbox Game Pass, as there's no excuse for your friends not to come along for the ride. We don't know about you, but we're pretty pumped for The Ascent.

Looks really great. Definitely ironed out some textures in the last few months. Will be a great coop game. Love twin stick shooters.
I'm not big on day one games as there are usually bugs but it will be very tempting to get this day one....looks fantastic!! Been one of my most anticipated games since last year's reveals.
I will definitely give this one a try, looks great.
I’m so excited this is coming to Game Pass, I’m really looking forward to this one.
This looks awesome, reminds me a lot of Dead Nation, hoping it delivers!
I've been waiting for this. It looks dope.
Promising game. Look forward to it.
Is it just me or has YouTube compression gotten worse? Even at 4K image quality, there are video artifacts left and right and details are really lacking.
Maybe there is no more "wow factor" when 4K videos first popped up on YouTube, but I don't feel like videos look that great anymore like they used to.
Anyways, I am looking forward to trying this one out - especially since it's a Day 1 release on Game Pass!
Yes! Been waiting for this one.
It supports local co-op according to the Xbox page, so I'll be checking this out day one of its release!
Looks pretty good, thanks gamepass
I'm tingling with anticipation AND it's game pass day 1?!
One of the beautiful things about the Cyberpunk subgenre is, that it doesn't need aliens, or other planets, or any other excessive elements. It has enough interesting topics to tackle, while staying very grounded and believable. Creating a world that is easily thinkable, with technology not far off our own, and in a familiar, yet evolved, environment makes it so palpable.
In this regard, I don't consider The Ascent to be a Cyberpunk game. It's just sci-fi with neon colors sprinkled in between. Unfortunatelly this is becoming a common thing. Concoctions which are merely painted a certain way, trying to ride on the Cyberpunk wave to make money. Dilutes the term more and more. Next, just about everything is Cyberpunk.
Edit:
Before you ask, yes I have my issues with Shadowrun ...
