2K's WWE series took a year off in 2020 for the first time in the franchise's history after a very poor reception to WWE 2K20 at launch, with the company instead choosing to release the arcade-style WWE 2K Battlegrounds.
However, the mainline WWE 2K series is expected to make its comeback this year, and we might be getting a look at it as soon as this weekend, as a big announcement is being teased for WrestleMania 37.
WrestleMania is taking place over two days this year - Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 - so the announcement could drop at any point this weekend. Hopefully it's related to WWE 2K22, and not just an update for Battlegrounds.
Back in June last year, newly-appointed WWE 2K executive producer Patrick Gilmore told fans that with WWE 2K22, the team was "trying to combine the best ideas out there into a brand new wrestling experience that sets a new standard."

Eh. WWE games have fallen off real hard for me since 2k15...the last few I thought were amazing were SVR: 09-11
Recently got into wrestling games, if it’s an improvement on 2K19, I’m interested.
2K really needs to pull its finger out this year.
Older Nintendo styled No Mercy games, or it's a hard no from me.
I really hope they make a good game but afraid 2k greed will get them first
I'll wait for the AEW game.
@JGRockford If you have a Switch I recommend checking out Wrestling Empire.
Even though I could care less about wwe nowadays, I used to be a big fan, used to watch with my dad and brother when I was really young in early 90s then became obsessed for about 2 years as a young teen in 2001...WWE looks so poor compared to them times...even so I would mind given a wrestling game a go..I was going to get WWE battlegrounds untill it got absymal reviews
@Tasuki I haven't but will definitely look it up.
Was the glory days of wresting games imo
@JGRockford that's what the AEW games looks to be
Yes best games were wwe no mercy N64, need to go back to the good days of PlayStation Smackdown vs Raw etc. I do like retromania style (much like no mercy) we want something playable and not buggy!
I’m personally really looking forward to a comeback for WWE2K.
The games are nothing on the Jakks PS2 entries but they were never truly terrible until 2K20 which was a mess with bugs and gliches.
They have something to prove now, and i’m hoping they have some big new gen features to bounce back with a bang.
