Microsoft has introduced the brand-new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal Wireless Headphones for Xbox, which is the first product for the Designed for Xbox Limited Series program, and costs a whopping $500 - the same as a Series X!
"Beoplay Portal is the perfect combination of technology, design and craftsmanship providing an immaculate audio experience for gaming and everyday activities."
So, what are you getting for your money? Firstly, the headphones offer lambskin ear cushions with built-in jaw support and calfskin leather on the exterior headband with bamboo fiber textile on the inside band, while cushions on top of the headband relieve any sort of fatigue you might find from long-term wear.
In terms of performance, you can get up to 24 hours of battery life (when only using Bluetooth and active-noise cancellation - 12 hours when using Xbox Wireless as well), a virtual boom arm for reliable microphone performance without the intrusive design of a physical boom arm, and the ability to customise various aspects such as pre-set game modes (like RPG or FPS), adjust adaptive active noise-cancellation, mic monitoring, mic tone and game/chat balance via the Bang & Olufsen audio app.
Beoplay Portal has been tuned by acclaimed acousticians for the most immersive and precise gaming audio. Experience your favorite games like never before with its engaging, sensorial audio and hear the subtlest of sounds you did not even know existed. Beoplay Portal comes with a pre-activated Dolby Atmos for Headphones service and is compatible with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices.
Three versions are available to purchase over at the Microsoft Store - Black Anthracite (available today in the US & Canada), Grey Mist (ships in May) and Navy Brass (ships in May) - and you can find out more details over at Xbox Wire.

Finally after months of wait.
Or you can just buy an Xbox Series X for the same price. ¯(ツ)/¯
Well they did say from the get go that this was for the void in the premium gaming headset market...hence the premium price.
Yeah I think I’ll just get the Xbox Wireless Headset for £89.99 instead. I’d still like to see some comparisons between these and the XWH, like what does the Bang & Olufsen headphones offer in terms of audio for the extra £360 other than lambskin and calfskin leather cushions?
One for the audiophiles I think. For the rest of us great alternatives that are much more affordable.
Not a knock on them though. There is a hardcore market there for them. Great they are offering a product for that crowd.
Not too surprised by that, everything they make is overpriced. This is just to milk those suckers who actually go for this sort of thing.
Calfskin?! Oh, my...😨
500$ bucks for a headset, I think i'll just stick to my 60$ Turtle Beach thank you very much..
I mean I woulda preferred cheetah skin but this’ll do.
I'm not the target demographic here, seems crazy to me what else I could spend $500 on, but I'm glad these exist for those who are.
I think they should sell the mic separately for an additional $200. You know, for that special crowd... 🙄
Eh no thanks, think I’m good!
