The start of any new year is inevitably accompanied by a whole host of New Year Resolutions that we hope to achieve over the next twelve months, and that includes in the world of Xbox and gaming in general.
Many of us have found ourselves in the position of falling behind in our backlogs, Achievements and Microsoft Rewards points in 2020, as well as repeatedly forgetting to check out some classic gems on Xbox Game Pass.
So, with that in mind, we're interested to know if you have any particular gaming resolutions for 2021. What gaming goals would you like to achieve by the time the year is over? Let us know down in the comments below.

NYR for last year, no, 2018 was to play through only 1 game (maybe 2, for online) at a time.
Stuck with that somehow, and have ploughed through lots of games on all consoles/pc happily.
Before that, I was grabbed by the next big thing and didn't finish what I bought!
So still to start Zelda BoTW lol
For me its largely to ignore modern gaming and play primarily retro games. I recently got the MODE for the Saturn so have access to many games I simply didn't back then or can't really afford today, plus fan translations making others accessible. I'll still dabble from time to time and The Medium is one such game but even my Series S is going to be used for the likes of Rare Replay and Daytona and such
Just one: buy fewer games!
My goal is to play more single player story games, Having being playing mostly online multiplayer games for a long time i recognized i missed out on some great games.. Now it's time to catch up..
1. Building my PS4 + Switch + PS3 games library with new games and old games i have never played before.
2. Try to get XBOX Classic to play my DDR Ultramix 1 & 2
3. Try to get XBOX 360 NTSC USA during year 2021.
4. Hunt for very hard to get & Rare games from Tokopedia.
No preorders, even for previously reliable studios. Not even for Starfield.
I'm going to try to save money by focusing on old games. It would be nice to first experience games at their best, too. AAA studios all release games too early these days.
Going to work through the backlog and not start another game till I finish one. started my list and working through. Also staying away from service games.
My gaming goals? Umm.. Enjoy some fantastic games of course! My backlog just keeps growing ( I canβt pass up a good sale it seems π ) So my goal would be to try to focus on the games I already own rather than buy new games at full price. Except the new Harry Potter game.. that will be mine upon release.
Finish games! That's my biggest goal as I've had a bad history of not finishing things. That said i also want to only play games I like so if it's not my jam get rid if it and move on. I would like to play more co-op / multiplayer with people as well to try out the social aspects of gaming.
Most importantly... have fun!
My biggest goal is to get through at least half of my Xbox 360 backlog. I probably have about 70+ games i haven't touched and i need to change that π
I need to stop buying games just because they are cheap. Or more so, at least play (if not finish) games that I buy.
Start finishing the games I start and stop buying games until I finish some of what I have, even if it's just 1:1 (if I finish a game, I can buy a new one). The backlog is depressing these days.
For starters ignore the toxic gamers. With all the recent drama over a certain game its like its illegal to like something everyone hates it not worth it you dont like the game cool whatever.
Two Complete more games and buy less at launch. Cyberbug 2077 has tought me to wait out new releases.
The same thing I do every year... try to take over the world!
No NYRs per se, but I do have a goal of reaching Level 152 in Halo 5 before Halo Infinite comes out. Might not be feasible, unless I put some serious hours of grind in. Currently over half way through Level 147 & I'm aware of the massive slog going from 151 to 152.
Oooh bad joke moment! My gaming resolution is 4K ππ
Stop buying games faster than I finish them.
Update: Already failed in the New Year sales!
@themightyant lol there's always next year
Same as everyone else, buy fewer games and dive into that backlog (Gamepass included). It actually helps that I'm not really excited for many of next year's releases on either of the platforms I use (Xbox and Nintendo). Hollow Knight Silksong and (possibly) Breath of the Wild 2 are the only ones that come to mind right now.
Like many my resolution is to get my backlog down...
It's absurd the amount of games I have purchased but am still yet to play. I still have a 360 backlog and many 3DS/Wii U even Wii games in sealed packaging. I've had some games 10+ years when I last looked but have not played them... That's before I even consider my Switch and Xbox One backlog... Let alone Game Pass..
Then I will pick up a Series X sometime down the line...
I need to play fewer games, and actually play them to completion. I've been buying games left, right, and centre in 2020, and it needs to stop.
I started playing Witcher 3 for the 3rd time a few days after cyberpunk released. I'm now much farther along into it than I've ever been and loving it on XSX. So first NYR is to really consume that game and all the DLC that I've heard is fantastic.
2nd will be to play RDR2 which I've had for over a year.
3rd is to play Trails of Cold Steel 2-4 on PS4. Played through the first and loved it. Got 2/3 sitting on my shelf.
4th - if CDPR gets cyberpunk next gen patch out and everything is running well, that will be on the list too.
I figure that's about 500 hours. Sprinkle in some gems from GamePass and I'm set for the year.
Q) What gaming goals would you like to achieve by the time the year is over?
A) Much like a good 7 other people have mentioned, my plan is to buy fewer games and progress further in the games I purchase. It'd also be nice to tackle some of my backlog... at least more of my backlog that isn't just Wii games (I review them, thus they end up taking priority).
Now which game should I go back to; one I wish to progress more with or one that I never got around to trying out but do own? A tough decision to be sure.
My gaming resolution will be 4K 60 π
(I can't be the only one who thought to put this? lol)
Play through some series I have not had the chance to experience:
Gears of Wars
Yakuza
Mafia
Dark Souls
Evil Within
Rage
Crackdown
Just to name a few...
I'm hoping to feel comfortable giving up on games within the first few minutes, if I don't enjoy them..!
Lol at all you people thinking you're going to buy fewer and finish more games.
Accept it, your backlog will continue to grow indefinitely. The older you get, the more disposable income you have to buy those fancy games when they go on sale, and the less time you actually have to play them. This will eventually change when all of your children have completed college and moved out. But by then, you likely won't live long enough to finish your backlog that has now been growing for decades.
I have accepted my backlog will never clear long ago.
@Pi3rc3y Dang, was hoping no one else made this joke yet. Hahaha
Mine is to focus on my backlog and stay out of next gen for a while.
@NotoriousWhiz
Way to be positive to begin the new year... It may be a futile effort, but trying at least gives you some hope. In my case my backlog is strictly Game Pass (not counting Resident Evil 3 Remake) so I have enough games to last me till 2022. Looking at the games coming out in 2021 I'm optimistic about not buying anything this year
@Scenes I beat you to it πππ
@Darthroseman ππ sorry, I couldnβt resist π€£
For this year, I've dropped al intentions of finishing a certain number of games. With Game Pass, I'll just play what I like - there's so much to try. When a game bores me, I'll just skip to the next.
