It's time for another round of Pick One! This week, to celebrate Dead Rising being included with January 2021's Xbox Games with Gold selection, we're looking back at the history of the series on Xbox.
There have only been a few mainline games released in the Dead Rising franchise to date, originating with the 2006 game on the Xbox 360. But which is your favourite? Remember, you can only pick one!
Let's take a look at what we're working with:
Dead Rising (2006)
Frank West, a freelance photojournalist on the hunt for the scoop of a lifetime, pursues a juicy lead to a small suburban town only to find that it is being overrun by zombies! He escapes to the local shopping mall thinking it will be a bastion of safety, but it turns out to be anything but. It's a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but with full reign over an entire shopping center, Frank can utilize anything to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic.
Dead Rising 2 (2010)
In the sequel to Dead Rising, players step into the shoes of Chuck Greene, professional motorcycle racer. Surrounded by a horde of hungry zombies in the spectacular casino town of Fortune City, Chuck finds himself in a race against time to find Zombrex, the one thing that can keep Katey, his young daughter, alive. Can he protect her and make it out of Fortune City alive?
Dead Rising 2: Off The Record (2011)
Photojournalist and original hero of Dead Rising's Willamette incident, Frank West, takes center stage once again in Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. The new 'Off the Record' storyline means an all new Dead Rising 2 experience, where Frank faces off against hordes of twisted enemies, builds more outrageous combo weapons, follows his own unique mission structure, and explores brand new areas of Fortune City to get his biggest scoop yet.
Dead Rising 3 (2013)
Anything and everything is a weapon in Dead Rising 3. Explore the zombie-infested city of Los Perdidos, and find a way to escape before a military strike wipes the entire city, and everyone in it, off the map. With intense action and an unmatched level of weapon and character customization, Dead Rising 3 delivers a heart-pounding experience unlike any other as you explore, scavenge and fight to survive in a massive open world on the brink of a zombie apocalypse.
Dead Rising 4 (2016)
Dead Rising 4 marks the return of photojournalist Frank West in an all-new chapter of one of the most popular zombie game franchises of all time. With an unmatched level of weapon and character customization, ambitious new features including new zombie classes and EXO Suits, Dead Rising 4 delivers a heart-pounding experience as players explore, scavenge and fight to survive in an epic open world sandbox.

Beat me to it. Never played Dead Rising and I'm happy GwG will let me try.
Dead Rising 4, because Frank and no time limit 😀
Dead Rising 2 was my favorite. I thought it was a huge improvement for the 1st game. I still like Frank as the best character in the series though.
The original Dead Rising all the way. Not only is it by far the series' best in my eyes, but also one of my all-time favourite games. Frank West is a hugely likable lead, and the supporting cast are great too. Meanwhile, Willamette Mall is a perfectly realised setting, just right in size and varied enough to feel like a real shopping mall. And I think it's a better piece of writing than it gets credit for. On my first serious playthrough to completion, having levelled up on the prior runs, I really got hooked by the story, and the timer, as divisive as it is, just elevated the tension.
For me, the sequels got progressively worse, opting for bigger but blander worlds and a cast of characters with little personality or likable traits. And while DR4 brought back both Frank and Willamette, it wasn't the real Frank.
I love the series, 1 and 2 especially. 3 was ok but 4 was so bad it turned me off the future of the series to a hardcore "wait and see".
Only ever played the first one so had to vote for that. Regretted not playing 3 at the launch of the Xbox One though.
(Looks for “I hate Dead Rising” option in the poll, but not finding it...... 🤔. Oh well. 🤷🏼♂️)
But in all seriousness, I have only played the first Dead Rising on the 360 & hated it so much that I didn’t even bother with the sequels.
I liked them all, but the first was groundbreaking for its time.
It's close between 1 and 3 but I'll go with the latter. I liked the story a little better and the gameplay was much more refined.
Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. Cynical remake of DR2 but with Frank as the lead.
I actually hated the first one initially, but when I revisited some time later, found it to be much more enjoyable. Best to level up until the walking speed is increased, then much less frustrating.
I’ve played mostly dead rising 3
For me it's the first one then Off the Record. After that 3 then 4. 2 was definitely the worst thanks to the babysitting thing they went with.
Played every one that's ever been released. I do look forward if they ever make a newer one.
I thought DR4 was the best with 3 a close 2nd! Bring on DR5 Please!!! 😊👍
