Haven't played Animal Crossing: New Horizons (will buy for the kids xmas), DOOM Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima or Hades which is great news.
To be honest my GOTY would easily have gone to The Last of Us Part II based on the fact its probably my favourite game since the first one, but I cannot wait to get through the rest of that list eventually. Such a great time to be a gamer!
I'd personally like Ghost of Tsushima to win Game of the Year.
Wasn't impressed with The Last of Us 2 compared to the original. The Abby sections had me forcing myself through them. I know critics loved it, but many gamers didn't.
Think I enjoyed Final Fantasy VII Remake more lol
I actually think animal crossing will win it this year. The game released at a perfect time and has done it well
@blinx01
I think the game was designed with that in mind, to make gamers uncomfortable I mean. I felt the same, but when I reached the end I absolutely understand the logic behind it and I applaud Naughty Dog for taking the risk, instead of creating another heartwarming story. To me it is the GOTY, no contest.
@gollumb82
I didn't feel uncomfortable. It was more a case of at no point did I actually like the character.
Felt like playing MGS2 all over again, but worse. When you just want to play as the main character but instead get force fed a new character and they make you try to like them.
Everything else with the game was brilliant. Gameplay, graphics, setting etc. Just the actual story was very poor.
That's why I'd personally go with Ghost of Tsushima, as that game nailed every aspect.
Obviously respect your opinion though, like any ones. Just a matter of taste for me.
@blinx01
I respect your opinion, as well. I was among the people who actually took a liking to Abby. Honestly, I haven't played Ghost of Tsushima. It looks like Assassin's Creed: Japan to me. I know it's probably better, but I'm so burnt out on open world games with excessive padding and fetch quests that I don't see myself playing it anytime soon.
@blinx01 I can understand people not liking it.
Don't want to spoil anything if I can help it but I hated the game at the obvious moments and was all in for a revenge mission but by the end was completely changed. Never had anything like that happen in entertainment media I can think of really - but if people stayed were I was half way through the game then I completely get their opinion.
There are a lot of shouts out for GOT as GOTY which is great as I haven't played that yet.
Haven't played Ori yet either so something else for me to look forward to as well.
@blinx01 I’d probably go with Ghost of Tsushima too, great to play and beautiful to look at.
I actually thought Abby had some of the better set pieces in the game, the problem with TLOU2 is that it went on for far to long and the story was garbage. Technically it’s brilliant but as a story driven game it was a mess. 7/10.
@gollumb82 ghost of Tsushima is the best AC game ever lol. Seriously though that game nailed the combat, something AC has struggled with since Origins I feel, and I really liked Origins it’s probably my favourite AC game.
I think Ghost of Tsushima or Animal Crossing will pick up GOTY. Award shows are extremely political (not in the politics way) and I doubt they'll risk turning away viewers by picking a divisive game like TLOU2.
Good selection of games from Microsoft being recognized. May not be juggernauts but I've played most of those and they were all fun in their own ways.
@RedShirtRod
I agree about award shows being too political. It’s one of the reasons I never watch any of them.
I can’t stand Geoff Keighley is another reason why I don’t care about the video game awards. I just wait for the news to come out afterwards about any potential Xbox reveals.
Maybe they’ll reveal what The Initiative is working on?
Animal crossing was the ideal game at the ideal time but my bite would go to ghost. What a great game!
Was hoping Ori would get nominated for goty
@Bmartin001 100% deserved it. Ori is a masterpiece. Combining great gameplay with stunning graphics, a wonderful soundtrack and a memorable and moving story. Complete package.
