As Microsoft prepares to make the transition across to the next-generation of Xbox gaming, it's been making some subtle changes to its brand.
Even on social media, it's mixing things up - with the official Xbox Game Pass Twitter account earlier today revealing how Game Pass was trying out a new look:
As you can see, it's dropped the word "Xbox" from the Game Pass branding, and is now just the Xbox logo. The Verge senior editor, Tom Warren, followed this up with the following tweet including a few images of this new look (see above and below):
Microsoft makes its new Xbox Game Pass branding official. Just “Game Pass” with the Xbox logo
What do you think of this new look for Xbox Game Pass? Do you think the logo without the word "Xbox" on display is a good move? Share your thoughts down below.

Terrible idea. People need to know xbox is different from a mid range PC. Even though it isnt. Promote the fact it's a console for gods sake ms. Otherwise people will just use their PC's. Are they actively trying to remove themselves from the console market, and bow down to sony already?
Tell you what though fellas with these twitter "mic drops" then Spencer and his crew must know sony got something BIG coming next few days.
@GunValkyrie but it's their next gen console, that hasn't even released yet. That they should be tied to!!
I think this makes sense. It's only a little thing, but it might help Game Pass stand out more on its own rather than always being 'Xbox Game Pass'
@DavLFC actually it's an ecosystem.
@mousieone
Exactly! I like it. Game Pass is not just an Xbox thing. And I actually really like the logo.
I don’t understand why people can’t understand that Xbox is an ecosystem now. And this is better for all gamers.
@KelticDevil Somebody is confusing us with PushSquare.
Hmm, on the one hand, it’s perhaps too simplistic and generic. On the other hand, detest the neon sight logo. Removing “Xbox” working is ok, especially since GamePass is also a PC thing, and soon a streaming anywhere thing.
Side note: I understand the legacy and evolution of the Xbox logo... but isn’t it weird the X is in a ball instead of a... box?
@roe Ya, I think just calling it Game Pass is a good idea, but I really liked the green neon sign logo. I think the new one looks nice though
@Tasuki
Lol.
I just don’t get how Microsoft revealing a new logo for Game Pass triggers a guy to go all crazy negative on Xbox? And it’s like every article now.
Maybe I’m too old & have no patience for people these days? 😂
It’s similar to Apple just using the Apple symbol + product name.
I like that.
Also I’m a minimalist, so I like the logo without any neon lights from that point of view. Fits the purpose of attracting a more global audience more.
I understand why their doing it. Same as why the new system is just called Xbox, it just makes it easier and more integrated
@Medic_Alert @MasterkillerX yeah I miss the green too. Besides being my favorite color; it’s how I relate to it. Lol
All good except for the typical PushSquare-type bonkers overreaction. I like the new logo for a new era where Xbox is an ecosystem which is already 10x more popular than PlayStation Now. Replacing the word "Xbox" with the logo works fine and should be done on the top of the game boxes that list Xbox One, Xbox Series X...
It works, it's now simplier and more inclusive. It matches the plan they have going forwards. Microsoft really are betting big on Gamepass, it will be interesting to see this plays out..
In language terms they're just dropping a word nobody says. When I talk about game pass I never say "Xbox game pass" I just say "game pass". So it makes sense there too.
Similar to how Gears 5 wasn't called Gears of War 5.
Doesn't make a difference to me here but make sense.
Looks good. Simple enough. And there is that Xbox logo still.
Honestly can't remember what the old style look like...
could we not have had a before and after picture?
A necessary move maybe, but the Xbox brand name is in people’s minds as being synonymous with games, but I guess they want to do the same with Game Pass, they see it as being less confusing to consumers who want to play games on their phones and tablets for instance.

@Porridge2215 Here's the old one:
I really don't know how anyone can be upset by them replacing 'Xbox' with their logo.
@DavLFC People who have a sufficiently powerful PC don't need a new Xbox anyway. Lucky duckies with expensive rigs are also part of that Microsoft family if they're on Windows 10 or up.
@FraserG Ahhh, is all coming back to me now, thanks
The new logo looks much better. They are also making the Xbox One applications icons a bit more natural.
@DavLFC
You called people a bunch of clowns in another article & you want to play a victim about “insults”? Lol. Ok man. 🙄
@FraserG
Sorry about that. I’ll just ignore him. 👍🏻
It's fine, having the Xbox logo next to "Xbox GamePass" was already somewhat redundant. As others have said, people already call it "GamePass" without saying the word "Xbox". There is no point in having the word "Xbox" in the logo.
The logo looks fresh and clean, I'll subscribe to gamepass eventually when i get through my huge backlog of games..
@IronMan30 They should do the same on the game boxes.
@BlueOcean yeah, people associate that logo with Xbox as it is.
Honestly, I'm enjoying this new look. It allows all consumers and gamers to quickly identify the Xbox ecosystem. It's similar to seeing the Steam, Epic Store, and Battle.net logos. People will quickly identify where it's from, especially with Microsoft's new focus on the Game Pass Ecosystem.
I don't know why people are saying Microsoft doesn't want the service to be associated with Xbox. Those people know what that logo before the words "Game Pass" stands for, right?!
There was no change to the name of the service, they just replaced the name for the logo, that's all.
@Medic_Alert Very smart outlook!
@DavLFC
Yeah, this is actually kind of splitting the gaming community.
On one hand I understand that Microsoft is playing on its strengths and trying to advertise Xbox as a service rather than a console.
And they push harder on showing game pass than the actual capabilities of their console.
From a business perspective I think they have to go down that road. Someday we won’t have console gaming as we know. You will literally just start an app like Netflix and play some games.
It’s kind of sad seeing the beginnings of it. I would have loved them to invest as much strength and focus into the actual console as Sony does and convince me to buy an Xbox.
But on the other hand I understand their vision and since I got a strong gaming PC and great internet, I’m saving money. And as a software engineer, I am of course a bit excited about what Microsoft does.
I am myself quite split on this as probably can be seen. The gamer in me vs. the software engineer in me.

He wasn't apologizing to you. He was licking the mods bums. Some fanboys view their opinion as fact and see a different opinions as a personal attack.
