If a recently discovered listing on the Microsoft Store is anything to go by, it looks like Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer series won't be getting a fully-fledged new release this year, instead opting for a 'Season Update' version.
According to the listing, eFootball PES 2021 Season Update features the same gameplay as eFootball PES 2020, but will come complete with various team and player updates. Everything else looks to be the same as the 2020 version, although Konami obviously could reveal more changes following an official announcement.
Furthermore, the game will apparently be available at "a special (25th) anniversary price." There's no release date for now, although recent rumours have suggested it could be coming out in September (thanks AltChar).

I’ve always said that sports games shouldn’t do yearly games but give updates like this for a year or 2 after to give more development time to the new game.
This is a very welcome move by Konami, instead of making people pay full price for a new game. The only thing I don’t understand is that they say it will feature “team and player updates”, but Konami don’t have the official licenses for the teams/players anyway do they?
@Nightcrawler71 They have licenses for pretty much all the players, and their teams/leagues licenses list has grown substantially in recent years.
They have licenses for the French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Brazilian leagues for example, as well as individual team licenses for Barcelona, Man Utd, etc.
@FraserG 👍my bad. Have only really played FIFA in recent years, but even that I got bored with last year.
@SuperJoon totally agree with you. On the digital side they could do a base upgrade for so much that just updates with the new years kits and stats. Or a "full" upgrade that implements all the improvements they've made as well. The full upgrade version would be their retail version. Every year you could pick if you just want the stats update or the gameplay + stats update. So you could skip gameplay updates if they haven't moved the game on far enough to warrant the price.
Honestly, I am not happy about this. PES 2020 was good at launch and in the demo, but it's slowly been getting worse and worse gameplay wise. All this says is that the can't be bothered to actually improve the game. The PES subreddit is a good example of my feelings, it's just laziness from Konami. I think I'm going to be getting Fifa 21 this year, especially as it will upgrade to a next gen version.
