FromSoftware has revealed that its acclaimed Dark Souls series has sold 27 million copies to date.
The company tweeted the news, and also took the time to hype up its forthcoming title, Elden Ring, which is being created in collaboration with acclaimed fantasy writer George R.R. Martin – the man behind the Song of Ice and Fire series upon which the TV show Game of Thrones is based.
The Souls series can trace its roots back to FromSoftware's King's Field franchise, and also owes a debt to the PlayStation 3 exclusive Demon's Souls.
The first Dark Souls arrived in 2011, followed by Dark Souls II (2014) and Dark Souls III (2016), the latter of which has sold 10 million units on its own. Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are considered off-shoots of the franchise due to the fact that they're directed by the same man, Hidetaka Miyazaki.
