The "first look gameplay trailer" that Ubisoft released for Assassin's Creed Valhalla as part of yesterday's Inside Xbox didn't go down well with some fans, ultimately due to it being an "in-game first look teaser" rather than an actual gameplay demo, which many had hoped it would be.
Taking to Twitter yesterday, Assassin's Creed Valhalla Creative Director Ashraf Ismail commented on the backlash the trailer had received, admitting that fans "rightfully expected to see more".

As mentioned in the tweet, Ubisoft has a "long marketing campaign" planned for the game, which Ismail says will include in-depth gameplay. Various industry figures responded to his statement with messages of support yesterday, including Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon and God of War director Cory Barlog.

Yeah, after that initial, boring as f*** 8 hour long "watching paint dry" live stream reveal of the game itself, they definitely set themselves up for backlash by explicitly mentioning "don't worry, there'll be exclusive gameplay footage in the Inside Xbox presentation next week", and then when we finally get to that, they all of a sudden backpedal to say that it's actually only in-game trailer footage.
It may not warrant excessive anger, but most definitely huge disappointment. What with there being no E3 next month, they had better come out guns blazing, and show us something that is going to completely blow our socks off, and this just wasn't it.
I'm sure they'll make it all up to us in july..
Yea Ubisoft did this back when Origins came out too. Apparently, they don’t quite understand what “gameplay trailer” means.
I hope this serves notice to Ubisoft about what is widely understood as 'gameplay'. A lot of excitement that could've been generated for the rest of the games that were announced, was consequently dampened by their blunder.
