You might have seen over at sister site Push Square the other day that a Crytek rendering engineer was making various statements (translated by a Persian Twitter user) about how the PS5 was easier to develop for than Xbox Series X. And now, in a weird turn of events, they've apparently retracted all of their statements.
The Twitter user who was sharing these quotes posted a new tweet yesterday suggesting that the engineer, Ali Salehi, no longer confirmed the content of the interview:

We're not quite sure what's happened here, but the Twitter user has also deleted all mention of the original interview quotes. It could be that they weren't translated properly, or perhaps someone higher up at Crytek stepped in and forced the tweets to be removed. Either way, we can put this one to bed for now.
What do you make of this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I forgot that Crytek still makes games.
@KelticDevil I think Crytek, I think Ryse. And then I get sad we'll probably never a get a sequel.
@FraserG
Yea that was the last game I played from them. And I loved Ryse & I so want a sequel!
It's interesting how this guy said what he did and has now retracted those remarks. Maybe there was something in what he said, but some suits up the chain weren't happy and wanted the comments removed? Either way, I'm sure we'll see more comments on development difficulties as we get closer to release.
Also we need a sequel to Ryse.
Funny that PushSquare, a website run by biased fanboys, reported the retraction as a conspiracy theory.
@SuperNintendoMii I think that he was talking without having any idea about how it is to develop a game for Series X or PS5. Someone might have asked him to provide any proof and he decided to avoid further questioning. If he could prove it he would.
@BlueOcean possible. Certainly the way he spoke was like he was stating facts, rather than opinions. If he really did not know then he shouldn't have spoke as such and deserves to have been muzzled
Crytek probably doesn’t want their name associated with console warring and flat out lies. Given the specs, I find it hard to believe the PS5 has many, if any, benefits over the Series X.
I see a lot of devs and tech news people coming out to bat for PS5 and I wonder; shouldn't Sony be doing this for PS5?
@BlueOcean
We'll never know for sure, but my guess is Crytek, being a company that has worked closely with MS in the past, doesn't want any of this kind of stuff being associated with its name. No reason to possibly burn bridges. So he was told by higher ups to detract the statement. At least if I were in charge of the company, I know I wouldn't want employees engaged in this kind of stuff until both consoles have been out and the studio has released games for them.
It is funny seeing some of the panic from PlayStation fanboys though. Mainly because PS5 just hasn't had any hype around it except from first party devs, and of course, fanboys themselves. Finally got something to cling to and... uh oh. All I can say is, assuming MS doesn't mess up the pricing on Series X, PlayStation first party needs to come out swinging and hitting home runs a lot sooner this gen. Year 3 or 4 won't cut it if Xbox is even on price (or lower) to go along with the power advantage.
@gingataisen
Isn't it mostly people at first party studios talking it up?
@Gamer83
I hear that Schreier character quoting his unnamed sources, so I wouldn't know if those devs are first party or not. Sony, it seems to me, is not entirely sure it is where it wants to be, therefore the message is being spun by the internet and some people feel the need to step forward and try to minimize the damage. This is how the Xbox One happened, and it wasn't pretty.
@gingataisen
Yeah, I'm going to be honest, not a big fan of unnamed sources, worked in journalism, know this is a common tactic but it was never one I liked and I never used it. People love Schreier, for whatever reason, and take his word as gospel. Me? I see a guy who works for one of the most ridiculous, sensationalist websites on the internet, one that has fueled the 'culture war' that every form of entertainment is wrapped up in (and some have been ruined by) and he's guilty as anybody given some stuff I've seen him write and tweet. That said, I don't doubt he has some really good connections, but if somebody is going to make a bold statement to the guy, they should have the guts to put their name to it.
All anybody can really do is wait to see what happens, though. Proof will be in the games and what developers are doing with both consoles. In the mean time, as we see in the lead up to every new generation, public relations and a good first impression are key. So far, Sony has dropped the ball big time on the PR. When it has its first real event where it unveils the console, launch games and hopefully price, Sony needs to hit a home run, that's how badly off the rails things are for PS5 right now. People are so desperate for any bit of good news they're looking at the amount of likes a controller (I like it) gets on Twitter.
Developers say that it's easy to develop for Xbox One because it's like developing for Windows, they also say it's easy to upgrade games for Xbox One X and Microsoft says that they made many tasks automatic this generation to make things easier for developers. It doesn't sound plausible that Series X is going to be challenging to develop for, that idea sounds more like a fanboy's countermeasure to the lower specifications of PS5, like giving too much importance to the faster SDD. Just wait for Digital Foundry to spot the differences in games. Saying that PS5 is the better console days after Sony revealed their lower specifications is ridiculous.
@Gamer83
Yes, we need to see some gameplay. That's when all these specs and numbers will start to matter.
@Gamer83 uh, did we just become best friends? lmao Schrier has always rubbed me the wrong way for that exact reason. Everything that site does is designed to get clicks from people who think or feel a certain way, feeding that outrage culture and perpetuating the divide. I'll never understand it, as that isn't journalism to me. Should be straight and unbiased, but he literally tweeted he has no intention of trying to hide his bias in his reporting. He's a wild one for sure.
@rrice64
Yeah. He definitely has some good sources and I don't discount 100% everything he writes, just not a fan of how he goes about his business and he doesn't get each and every story correct like some people act.
