February's upcoming Xbox One and Xbox 360 Games With Gold have been announced, and there's a fair chance that rightly or wrongly, a riot will be on the cards. If you can call people firing shots back and forth on messageboards because the commonly-available-for-$10-Ryse still hasn't been given away as a GwG title a riot, anyway...
The month kicks off on Xbox One with the addictive RPG Hand of Fate, which will be free to download until the 29th (it's a leap year.) From February 16th through to the middle of March, stealth-'em-up Styx: Master of Shadows will be getting the Games With Gold treatment.
On Xbox 360, players can look forward to Sacred Citadel for the first half of the month (which will be backward compatible on Xbox One, of course) and Gears of War 2, which anyone who bought Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Xbox One would more than likely already have.
Don't forget, The Witcher 2 is still currently free and backwards compatible as well.

Got no issues with Hand of Fate as its a game I've been hoping would go on sale. Styx not really got much interest as I have both Thief and Dishonored sat in my backlog. No interest in either of the 360 titles due to indifference/already owning them I'll leave it up to you to decide which. Ryse's absence does surprise me still I've beat it so I'm frothing at the mouth like some people are but with the PC release having happened and the collectors edition or whatever it is also coming I can't see how hey are making more money from it in terms of sales. Unless its still a go to game for new Xbox One owners (but I also don't see that being a thing)
Ok, what the %#@!......
I don't mind Hand Of Fate so much. It looks good, very unique, & I have heard mostly positive things about it.
The rest is garbage. Gears 2?!!! Really?!!! Like everyone with an Xbox One or 360 doesn't already have that game in some form by now? Just a joke.
And for the love of god, stop with the Sacred games already!! That franchise is mediocre crap. Oh and speaking of mediocre crap........Styx......and I'm not talking about the band.
@Utena-mobile
I stand corrected. My apologies.
Gears 2 is actually a frickin' awesome game. It's the best in the series, in my opinion. I would highly recommend giving it a shot. I would suggest trying to play the original Gears beforehand, however, due to the storyline.
@KelticDevil I agree, 2 > all. Playing 1 is best as it introduces you to the characters, universe etc.
I think it's a decent line up myself - always fancied giving Styx a whirl but never did so I now get to try it for free. Hand of Fate looks interesting too. Already got all 4 Gears games but I'm willing to give Sacred Citadel a go as I've never played any of that series' games.
I've got Gears and Styx but I'll certainly download the other two to see what they are like.
@Red620Ti
Yea it's a tough call. I know A LOT of people say Gears 3 is the best. And I give Gears 1 lots of credit for it's introduction of the characters, basically creating the "cover based shooter" genre, & really showing what the 360 was capable of in terms of graphics.
Gears 2 just took everything Gears 1 did to another level. It also introduced the amazing Horde mode, which COUNTLESS games have copied since. I am going to be re-playing Gears 2 soon, so I will get to re-live the awesomeness.
Gears Of War: Judgement.....well, let's just move on. Lol.
I did just re-play Gears 1 on the 360 recently & it still holds up quite well actually.
+1 for Gears 2 - best GOW in the series (IMO).
I picked it up a few years back now, as I wanted a new game but didn't know what. The box looked interesting and the reviews were good. Gears is now one of my 'must buy day one' games. I have completed the campaign mode on all of them (some are better than others... <ahem> Judgement) but GoW2 will always be my favourite.
It's at the point for me where I only keep my PS Plus and XBL Gold subscriptions for two reasons. The obvious is because without it, I can't play online with friends and the other reason is despite the lackluster 'free' games, both services have had pretty good sales. I was able to clean up pretty good over the holidays.
@Gamer83
Exactly. Other than, like you said, the neccessity of having Xbox Live to play online, the true bonus are the sales every week. Like you, I cleaned up during the holidays.
Weak. Sony and Microsoft should step up their game.
I paid £23 last time I paid for 1 years gold (CD Keys)... that works out at less than £2 a month... kind of puts the free games situation into perspective for me... You're getting the superb Xbox live service, all the discounts as pointed out above and up to 4 free games a month. Even if there's only 1 or 2 a YEAR that take your fancy it's still a bloody good deal!
@TwilightAngel
To be fair, most of the great games on PS4 and Xbox One are third party, you have to get publishers to agree to make those games 'free' and that's just not going to happen in most cases. As long as they keep the great sales coming, it's all good.
I own all those games, which is cool because I still have a backlog to clear out. Hand of Fate and Sacred Citadel are fantastic games and I would recommend picking them up.
