If you've recently picked up an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you will likely be keen to play games which are optimised to take advantage of the full power Microsoft's next-gen consoles have to offer.
It's not just the brand-new games, either - many Xbox One titles have already had this optimisation and now offer faster load-times, heightened visuals and steadier frame-rates at up to 120 FPS.
We've put together a list for you below which includes new titles built natively using the Xbox Series X & S development environment as well as previously released titles that have been rebuilt specifically for Xbox Series X & S.

I take it the writer of this article hasn’t played Bright Memory yet, it wouldn’t even get the Xbox 360 seal of quality.
Some games I hope get optimised for Series S/X:
Code Vein
Dark Souls 1-3
Diablo 3
Dishonored series
Dragon Quest 11
Fallout 4
Fallout 76
Gears 1-4
Greedfall
Halo 5
Monster Hunter World
Nier 1 Remake
Nier Automata
Outer Worlds
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Resident Evil 3 Remake
Sekiro
Skyrim
Team Sonic Racing
Wasteland 3
Yakuza 0-6
There is an error in your listing! Warhammer: Chaosbane is NOT optimised for Series X|S only if you buy the full version called Warhammer: Chaosbane: Slayers Edition. So owners of the base game or any other version will not get the upgrade without paying for that version. Very sneaky and anti consumer!
@Sveakungen Thank you! I've made that change.
Anyone know when Ride 4 is going to be optimised for Series X?
@FraserG @Sveakungen Same goes for DMC5.
@JoakimZ Thank you!
And people say it has no games..! 😂
Does this mean all of these games have to be ran from the internal SSD?
@Jarobusa Either the internal SSD or the Seagate Storage Expansion card.
If it would be able to run from an external HDD it would be the Xbox One version, without any of the Series S/X improvements.
@JoakimZ unfortunatly diablo 3 wont ever get a upgrade two reason, one not sure where they would upgrade it but the main reason is diablo 4 is in the making...
@Blessed_Koz I agree that it’s not very likely, but it was not a list of games I think will be optimised. One can always hope
Call of duty mw is s/x optimized. Sort of...
Come on ubisoft.. do Ghost recon breakpoint also lol. Love that game.
Anyone who likes Arcade racers really should give Dirt 5 a go. It’s great fun and looks fantastic.
DMC5 does 120 FPS right?
@Freakdahouse and ray tracing, just for shadows and lighting, not reflections
@nicols on modern warfare?
@Freakdahouse Sorry, meant Cold War - its listed as not supporting raytracing in the list
@FraserG
You can add Sparkle 2 to this now too. I had an update this morning.
10 Tons seem to be going back through their games and updating them, so expect more.
that's a large list of games but most of them still don't support raytracing and many still don't support smart delivery . why Xbox? come on Phil spencer get with the program
Are you sure that Star Wars: Squadrons doesn't support Smart Delivery? I have the physical version from launch installed on my Series X and it has the X|S logo on the game tile.
*edit: Just checked the product listing on the Microsoft Store, and it has the Smart Delivery badge next to the Optimized for Series X|S badge.
@phoenix1 To be fair, many of the games that “don’t support Smart Delivery” are not Xbox One games, such as Observer SR and Call of the Sea - which is to say, Smart Delivery by definition wouldn’t make sense in these cases.
Edit: Going back through the list, literally all of the games that don’t support Smart Delivery are not XB1 games.
@JoakimZ Greedfall is definitely getting a Series X upgrade at some point (read about that recently) and I'm pretty sure The Outer Worlds is as well. I dropped off TOW pretty quickly, but maybe I'll jump back into it once the upgrade arrives.
@sakanakami Added! EA games don't typically support Smart Delivery, so this one slipped through the radar. Thanks
@FraserG For Honor claims to be enhanced on the description in the store but doesn’t show as X|S optimised. Any idea if it is or isn’t?
@VenomousAlbino Yes, a Series X/S version pf Greedfall was announced pretty soon after I made that comment. Never heard of an upgrade for Outer Worlds though, but I hope it’s true.
Observer System Redux doesn’t actually offer ray tracing on Series X yet, the developer is hoping to add it sometime this month...
@slider271 I was wondering about that.. I figured it was updated or something since it was on this list. Thanks for pointing it out, as I was considering a purchase, but not until it’s updated.
@slider271 Thanks for that! It's still listed as featuring ray tracing on the Microsoft Store.
@ChopperCampbell Ubisoft announced it had been enhanced to 4K, 60FPS on Series X (1080p on Series S) a while ago, but it seems Microsoft doesn't class it as a next-gen optimisation. Strange one!
@FraserG Desparados 3 became X/S Optimised over Christmas as well. Couldn't find any details about it, but I contacted Mimimi and they've said it's now 4K and 60fps on XSX (was locked at 30fps on X1X), and XSS has a performance/resolution mode option.
@RileyMesh So it did! Thanks for that
@JoakimZ @Jarobusa
That is incorrect information. There are multiple games that carry the Series X optimized designation that do not require the SSD.
Master Chief Collection and Sea of Thieves immediately comes to mind.
There are multiple destinations for Series X games.
Durango: Last gen.
Durango, Gen 9 Aware are Series X optimized without requiring an SSD.
Scarlet requires SSD.
@everynowandben I’ve grabbed it since it’s on sale now, but not playing it till it’s patched. The devs have said on Twitter that it should be updated this month. But they also said a performance patch would be out before the end of last year, and it’s not appeared yet..,
Isn't jedi fallen order 60fps on series X as an option now? It may not have the X|S logo on the game picture/thumbnail but it was updated to run better on series X... Right?
@Tangerine Yeah, Microsoft doesn't class it as 'optimised' for whatever reason. Same deal with The Division 2, For Honor, etc.
I want the 2160@60hz. As an example I think Cold War looks much better at 60hz with or without ray tracing but it is not smooth at all. With ray tracing it seems to be hitting 40-50fps. The downgrade to what seems like 1200p @ 120 is too much. Poorly optimized typical CoD. 4K 60 should be the industry wide standard and target.
I'm hoping for something for The Outer Worlds at some point
@FraserG I've noticed you've got control ultimate edition as not smart delivery but it is. It's the regular control that isnt
@NORTHERN_beat Thanks! I don't believe it's officially a Smart Delivery upgrade though? You definitely get access to both versions, but the Microsoft Store doesn't list it as a 'Smart Delivery' game.
Seeing 60 and 120 numbers on Series X/S is a dream that has come true after a generation of sub-30fps games (Xbox One/PS4) and current Switch games.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and Call of Duty: Warzone are both missing from this list.
@JoakimZ Code vein already plays a lot better on series X than on the one X. Much better fps & much more responsive =)
@poopster Neither are officially optimised according to Microsoft, even though obviously they've had updates recently.
Whenever I see this bumped, it would be nice to have highlighted what’s been added!
I think gems of war will be optimized soon
@FraserG You can now change the ray tracing back to yes for Observer: System Redux now that it has been recently patched.
@MaccaMUFC Ah yes, thank you!
Does this list not get updated?
The Outer Worlds already is enhanced. It's just the same as the one X version, except it runs at 60fps. Maybe a more featured update is planned, which explains why the "XS" symbol doesn't come up. And hey, Activision!! could you please fix Crash 4 on Series X!? Cos some sections of the game run extremely poorly, seemingly for no reason.
Do optimized for Series X need to be on the internal ssd to benefit or can they be installed on a external hard drive?
Does anyone here know if the 'new' Xbox cover art design is real yet?
If so, I have some major work ahead of me. 😟
Yesterday I got my brand new Series X!!!
@BleedingDreamer
Optimized games have to be used with the internal ssd. You can download and install on portable but to play you need internal.
@FraserG This is a great chart, thank you. I was wondering if you could add a field for if it's available on gamepass?
@SithThanos thanks
@Rockboy247 I'll have a look and see if we can do anything, can't promise anything just yet though!
@FraserG cheers, do appreciate it
