Warhammer 40,000: Darktide (Xbox Series X|S)

A follow-up to the excellent Warhammer: Vermintide 2, this one got pushed back due to Covid-19 but is now due to arrive in the spring of this year. Featuring similar gameplay to Fatshark's previous four player co-op efforts, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide also makes a few tweaks to the established formula, including a move away from mainly melee combat to a 50/50 split of ranged and melee.

Telling the story of a squad of Imperial Guardsmen investigating a Chaos infiltration on the planet Atoma Prime, we've got high hopes that we're in for more excellent co-operative wave based action when this one drops later this year.

Deathloop (Xbox Series X|S)

Alright, so Bethesda's PS5 masterpiece Deathloop hasn't yet been announced for Xbox, but given that Microsoft now owns the company behind it, it's undoubtedly going to drop on Xbox Game Pass as soon as possible. The game received a timed exclusivity period of one year on PlayStation, which means we could be seeing it as soon as September 14th, 2022 on Xbox. Yes, it's not exactly a "new" release to look forward to, but given that Deathloop received multiple Game of the Year awards for 2021, it's something to be very, very excited about nevertheless.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown (Xbox Series X|S)

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is one hell of a mouthful, but it's also looking like it could be one hell of a game. Retaining much of the DNA from earlier entries in the series, Solar Crown sets out to drive the franchise forward into a whole new generation with a revamp that sees the action take place in a vibrant open world that gives players free reign to progress as they please, race, cruise around, relax and hang out utilising the game's various social elements. This one's sounding pretty slick from what we've heard so far and we can't wait to take it for a ride later this year.

Scorn (Xbox Series X|S)

Scorn looks absolutely disgusting - and we love it. This first person horror game tasks players with unearthing and exploring some of the most elaborate environments we've ever seen as they make their way through interconnected biomes in a non-linear fashion.

The world here incorporates a sort of meaty HR Giger feel into its level design - did we really just say meaty HR Giger? - something we're sure you're all 100% down for. Even the guns you hold throb with life as you shoot, reload and simply hold them in your hands. It's a world unlike any we've seen before and looks like it may well make a great inclusion to Xbox Game Pass when it hits late this year.

Gotham Knights (Xbox Series X|S)

While Gotham Knights is said to be taking place outside of the world of the Arkham series, it looks to be retaining the very same gameplay and expanding on it in interesting ways. First impressions suggest that Gotham Knights will be focused on delivering a co-op experience, allowing players to take control of the likes of Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood, as they strike out on missions across an open-world Gotham City. The narrative also features the Court of Owls, a popular thread from the initial comics. More Batman-related games are always sweet, sweet news to us so we're 100% down for this one.

Starfield is sure to be one of the very biggest releases of 2022 - one that arrives day one on Game Pass - and we absolutely cannot wait to see what the veteran developer has in store for us as we join the Constellation and go in search of the answers to humanity's greatest mystery. Expect lots of amazing exploration, over 150,000 lines of dialogue, warring factions and maybe even ship-to-ship space combat. Oh boy.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (Xbox Series X|S)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is the much-anticipated follow-up to 2007's cult classic FPS horror. Boasting a truly massive open-world to explore, players look set to be constantly on their tippy toes as they prowl through the darkness of this all-new Exclusion Zone, the game's ultra atmospheric post-apocalyptic playground. We've got absolutely no doubt that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is gonna be an intense, terrifying experience when it lands, and we cannot wait to return to this franchise's unique world-building style. The game's development has been put on hold for the time being due to the war in Ukraine, so we'll have to wait and see if it gets officially pushed to 2023 in the near future.

Atomic Heart (Xbox Series X|S)

It's hard to even know what to say about Atomic Heart. Described as an "action-packed open world RPG FPS", the game looks absolutely bananas in the best ways, taking apparent inspiration from the likes of Bioshock to create a unique, compelling adventure that we can't wait to undertake later this year. Better yet, Mick Gordon of DOOM and DOOM Eternal fame is handling the soundtrack, so you know it's going to be a banger. It's hard to gauge how this one will turn out at this point, but the good news is that it'll be available at no extra charge on Xbox Game Pass, so you can dive in with no regrets.

Sonic Frontiers (Xbox Series X|S)

The first ever fully open world Sonic arrives sometime in late 2022, according to Sonic Team. Sonic Frontiers sees everyone's favourite blue hedgehog explore the lush biomes of the Starfall Islands as he zooms around flowery fields, forests, ancient ruins and deserts. It all looks a little Sonic x BOTW so far and we're definitely here for that prospect.
