The weekend starts here! If you're looking for things to do on Xbox over the next couple of days, we've had some great new Xbox Game Pass additions recently, as well as three Free Play Days titles and a massive set of new Xbox deals!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
There are a couple of games on my list for the weekend. The first is Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator, which I've been very interested in ever since it was first announced, and I'm looking forward to spending more time with it. I'm a sucker for these kinds of games - Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is another one of my guilty pleasures!
My other obsession at the moment is WWE 2K24, which I had the pleasure of reviewing for Pure Xbox earlier this week. It's not a massive evolution on last year's release, but it just does everything a little bit better, including the addictive MyGM mode that's got me absolutely hooked right now. One of the best modes in all of sports gaming!
Have a good weekend, folks.
Craig Reid, Video Producer
Seems this weekend I’m spoiled for choice as to what I’m going to play. It’s funny, here I thought I’d be sitting down on the sofa, ROG Ally in hand to deliver mail as the apocalypse’s favourite postie in Death Stranding (which is amazing by the way).
But no, instead I’m pondering over whether I should buy a new game. A game I’ve played the demo of, and hated the demo of, so why I’m considering buying it straight up confuses me. The game in question being Unicorn Overlord… So many people vouch for it being a solid 9/10 and I love a 9/10 - don’t we all? I thoroughly enjoyed 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Vanillaware are pretty great. So, what do you think PX, do I nab it, or no?
The other part of why this weekend is funny to me is because although the game is janky, kinda awful in places but great in others, I want to dig into Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator. My in-laws run a taxi company, so I thought by playing Taxi Life, I’d y’know, understand them better or something like that haha. I’m pulling your leg, honestly, I just had fun and I like fun, so let’s have some!
Oh, and Balatro. Always Balatro. Happy gaming, folks!
(By the time you read this bit, I’ve already bought Unicorn Overlord)

I’ll be playing the original halo with my son
And broken age on my Logitech g cloud.
@Meehanuk_1987 That is a great plan!
Cleaning up Infinite Wealth after finishing last weekend.
This weekend I'm continuing to play Monster Hunter Stories 2 on Switch, dunno what I will play on Xbox, if I even play on it.
Finished Infinite Wealth just a few days ago (10/10) so now I'm trying to finish NEO: The World Ends With You on my PS4. It's really cool, but I'm not hooked.
Rebirth and nothing else. Whatever game time I get belongs to FF7.
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla (PS5) - have just finished the Jotunheim story arc and am back in England.
Gears of War: Definitive Edition (XSX) - finished the first chapter.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection (Switch) - the games are showing their age but the presentation and overall package is excellent.
Balatro (Steam) - have won my first run after a half a dozen attempts with a "two pair" strategy built around the Spare Trousers joker which I levelled up to a 100x multiplier. This game is insane.
Still going strong on the Final Fantasy XIV Beta where I just aquired the Enterprise. However as I finished this monthly club's game I need to find something short to put on its side before Dragon's Dogma 2 releases
Bendy and the Dark Revival - PS5
Dark Souls 2 - Series X
I’ve been playing Halo just got to Diamond Staff Sergeant last night in career rank.
I’ve also been playing The Mobius Machine.
Quake 1, Warhammer 40k boltgun and Dead Island 2.
I went back to Baldur’s Gate 3 and I’m loving it again. Also playing Paw Patrol World with my daughter 🙂 (both on my Steam Deck, BG3 in handheld mode while PPW docked).
@HelloCraig can’t beat it making memories !
Ff7 rebirth and helldivers 2 , will probably finish infinite wealth as well
Picked up Transformers Devastation, so I'll giving that a go, along with Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order which I've been thoroughly enjoying on this play through
On xbox I started Dead Rising the other day.
On Wii U I started Paper Mario Color Splash the other day.
On switch I've been playing FF VI
Playing Persona 3 Reload and Valiant Hearts this weekend. Good gaming folks!
Brotato still has me hooked and still trying to clear level 0 with all the characters before going to level 1. Considering a RPG but most likely Paw patrol for the achievements…
This weekend I’m playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. I’m seven chapters deep, and I’ve 100%’ed each region. I’m taking my time and really absorbing this sprawling world. It can feel a little too bloated at times, but the story (which I won’t discuss due to spoilers) and moment to moment gameplay is a genuine blast.
So far, the game is living up to my lofty expectations. The combat is a lot more balanced than its predecessor, and more dynamic too. It might be my favorite battle system in an RPG ever. It’s a wonderful mix between exhilarating action and classic turn-based decisions. It’s an impressive feat that keeps you constantly engaged.
One thing I really appreciate is how everything has a purpose. Mini-games such as Queen’s Blood and Fort Condor (and more) have their own mysterious yet compelling storylines, and are worth experience. Side stories are somewhat bland from a design perspective, but feature brilliant character development.
I’ll try and be as spoiler free as possible — there are two quests I’ve been involved in that expound on the characters. The first one revolves around Barret’s relationship with Marlene, and how he expresses his love for her and is worried about her future. The second relates to Cloud’s incentive on his asking price of 2,000 gil for his mercenary work. It becomes an inside joke within the party which is heartwarming in and of itself, but there is also a backstory to that particular price that has emotional weight behind it.
While there may be a Far Cry-esque nature to its open world, nothing feels like wasted space. The game simply respects your time. I can’t wait to explore further into some iconic locations from the PS1 original, and even though I know what is to come, I still find myself curious as to how things will unfold. To me, that is a sign of a masterful game that respects its legacy and modern audience.
I also purchased Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord. I’ve only put two hours in. Initially, it was a little jarring, not being able to strategically choose your actions like your typical turn based (S)RPGs, but once I came to terms with it and found enjoyment in unit management, the game really started to become special. This is shaping up to be a brilliant ride.
Playing legend of Zelda minish cap.
Finished Banishers ghost of Eden..but I will load an earlier save to do the ghost stories.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Vita) - Time for Dante to get his just due.
Jet Car Stunts (Windows Phone) - Mostly dailies still.
Lode Runner Classic (Windows Phone) - Finally picked this back up after taking a week off from it.
EA added The Saboteur to Steam, so I bought that and can't wait to fire it up. I've been mad that it isn't backwards compatible on Xbox for a decade.
I've also been playing Ni No Kuni 2 on Xbox, and am in the endgame DLC stuff. It's gotten pretty grindy, so I might just pass on the rest of it. Mostly super long procedurally generated dungeons and a couple super high level bosses.
@FarmDog08 how long did it take you to get to this point?
@fabisputza007 what are your thoughts on Banishers? I kind of want to check it out.
Hoping to be finishing off Alan wake 2 this weekend and probably a little bit of man eater just to change the flow ha
@BIG3 It's my kind of game. If you like a good story, lots of reading, consequences for your actions (side quest change depending on your decisions)..Then this game is for you.
The action is fine but by no means is great. I put it on easy cause after a while I found it quite repetitive.
Purexbox gave the game an 8, and I agree with it.
Me and my Xbox Series X will be running through Flipping Death this weekend, because as an aging college teacher and gamer, if it's one thing that needs to be flipped, it's death...
@fabisputza007 ah. Thank you! I appreciate a good story in my games.
I am so happy to finally be able to say I will be playing Univorn Overlord this weekend! As a strategy RPG fan, this game has it all for me!
Elsewhere I'll be diving into Chapter 5 of FF VII Rebirth. Another great game! 2024 is shaping up to be absolutely amazing.
Happy gaming everyone!
@BIG3 if you decide tobuy it, let me know what you think.
@BIG3 I think 85-87hrs to finish and I'm at about 95hrs with 11 base game achievements left.
I’m still playing Dead Island 2 and still having fun with it. Should get to the end of the story at some point over the weekend.
@InvaderFromSpace Love The Saboteur. I was hoping for years that they would bring it to the BC program for Xbox.
Chrono Trigger (Super NT) In honor of Akira Toriyama's passing I am replaying one of my favorite SNES games. Thank you for everything Toriyama may you rest in peace.
WWE 2K23 (Xbox Series X) Just started season 3 against my son in GM mode. I took season 1 and he took season 2 so this season will be interesting.
That's all I am probably going to get through this weekend. I am still working my way through Yakuza: Like a Dragon but do to having to work this weekend I don't think I will get to it.
Carrying on with Phoenix Wright ace attorney and started Recore Definitive edition. The latter one I'm only 1 hour in but it's clicked with me with it's setting and pace, quite enjoying it.
Have had fun with WWE 2K24 so far, and also playing CoD MWIII mostly. Also sprinkled in a bit of Mk11 & Soulcalibur II HD.
Basically the same stuff for me, Thief: The Black Parade, and Dread Templar. Earlier this week I played through Ad Infernum. Super short at about 2-2.5 hours, but I would highly recommend if you are into horror themed imm-sims like Amnesia: The Bunker and Stay Out of the House.
Have picked up Halo Infinite for the first time in a long time.
Also playing Paper Mario on the Switch. A gem of a game.
And some Sly Cooper on Vita.
Im mainly playing FF 7 Rebirth which is awesome!
Im also playing a bit of Hellblade here and there as Im looking forward to Hellblade 2 so I plan on being done by the time that hits gamepass
Well another week another WAYP. Kinda busy week? Kinda neglected my switch this weekend due to work on Friday amd having plans on Saturday. So we’re gonna remedy that with some Unicorn Overlord today. Very extremely excited to play that as I always love a good Vanillaware game. Also gonna probably take a couple minutes before bed tonight and do the Dragons Dogma 2 Character Creator Demo thing so I can skip that part when the game comes out because yes I did get to pick up a digital copy of that this weekend too. Usually I skip demos because I like starting the game as is when it comes out but I don’t exactly enjoy character creators as much as other people so I don’t mind skipping that. As for games I plan to tackle the rest of the week well all that’s left on the Nintendo DLC train is the Splatoon DLC after I beat Pokémon this week so on switch I’m thinking some Splatoon 3, Cold Steel IV, Another Code, Mario Vs DK, Unicorn Overlord and Rain Code. And over on the PS5 a rotation of FFVII Rebirth, Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, Granblue Fantasy Relink, and hopefully finishing off the last of FFXIV: Endwalker content. Maybe crack into some Foamstars too if I get some free time. Anime of the week is short and simple. Gotta give it to Frieren, Delusional Monthly Magazine, High Card, Delicious in Dungeon and Urusei Yatsura as always. Also of course continued special shout-out to a show I’m loving Shameless. Podcasts of the week gotta go to Castle Super Beast, Big Think Dimension, Remap Radio, RPGsites Tetracast, Into the Aether, Windbreaker, Firelink, Press Start Turbo, Summon Sign, and Nextlander. As always a big huge lovely shoutout to my friend at twitch.tv/akibread and their lovely streams. And this week a personal and special thank you to Akira Toriyama and all he’s done may he Rest In Peace. As always stay lovely to each other, stay safe and have a excellent weekend. Happy MAR10 Day. And Happy Gaming.
