Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 24-25)

I've just started a new playthrough on Elden Ring so will be playing that in-between bouts of hitting zombies with golf clubs on Dead Island 2

Xbox - some Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate

Fun times.

Well I'm working my way through the remaster of XIII. It's not amazing but it's hitting the right nostalgia feels for 23 year old me (I'm 44 now). Enjoying it. I'll prob beat that over weekend. If I have time I'll go into either Yakuza Judgment or I might give Elden Ring a go.

Series X Persona 3 Reload

I won’t be playing anything. I fractured my right wrist on Monday. Fortunately, it’s only hairline fracture and the bones are in place so it should be a pretty quick heal.

I can hold a controller and play. I don’t want to overdo it. So I’ve just played a little bit of halo this week to complete my challenges. The streak continues!

On my Series X, I'll be going through the Halo Infinite campaign with my mate. I did a solo Legendary run when the game first came out, but haven't ever played it in co-op before now. It's my mate's first time playing any Halo game. Very enjoyable campaign.

I'll also be continuing my solo run of Remnant 2, if I get chance. Great game, often very, very difficult.

On My PC, I'll be going through a trio run of Baldur's Gate 3, assuming my two friends can actually get online.

On Playstation i just finished Death Stranding Directors Cut, loved the story and the ending was really interesting. Enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would. Now playing Kena from ps extra after recently resubscribing due to a 59% discount offered by Sony.

On Xbox I am playing Tomb Raider Remastered. Just finished tomb of khamoon in TR1, up to Opera House in TR2 and finished the jungle first level in TR3. Really enjoying the nostalgia trip and the games still hold up today

I fancy something un-stressful, so I’m going to give Return to Grace a try, in between watching the rugby. I’m also making my way through Demon’s Souls remake on PS5, which looks great and is really quite colourful for a souls game, I guess they wanted it to look pretty as it was a launch title.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Vita) - I'm still loving the banter between Nate and Sully.

Jet Car Stunts (Windows Phone) - Still doing daily runs.

Lode Runner Classic (Windows Phone) - Slowly making progress in this as well.

This weekend I'm maybe going to play Chrono Trigger(the DS version) since I'm way too exhausted after the past week for anything else.

I gave the Unicorn Overlord demo a go on Switch though, since I have really enjoyed Vanillawares previous games but I dropped it, this type of tactical RPG is just not clicking with me.
(Basically, move units around in real-time and then watch the battles play out according to tactics you've set for each character before-hand, it's kinda way too passive for me)

Throughout the week I beat Final Fantasy 7 Remake and it was absolutely phenomenal. I had a rocky history with this remake. To provide some context - I played the game when it originally came out in 2020, and I got to chapter 14 before the game bricked my PS4. I lost all desire to replay the game until recently.

During my replay, especially the last third of the game — the point I was at years ago — was incredibly strong, and the emotional beats were perfect, with foreboding visions yet to come to fruition. There was a scene where Cloud said, “Bring it on, B****!” and it gave me chills. There is no way I’ll attempt to platinum this game because I find the combat way too difficult. I really can’t wait to play Rebirth, and I’m glad to see the reviews for the game are immensely positive.

As for what I’m playing this weekend, I’ll be focusing on Resistance: Retribution. The platinum trophy is pretty easy to obtain too, so that, along with it being a short enough experience to play through before Rebirth comes out makes it a good palette cleanser. Furthermore, it’s just a great game. I wish this franchise would make a return, particularly the first game, and with trophy support. Why there isn’t a remastered trilogy on current generation consoles is beyond me. The entire premise is tantalizing, with an awesome setting, compelling characters, and varied weapons that’s bolstered by fun gameplay.

I also purchased Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden on the PS5. I’m not very far — an hour or two at most, but so far it’s pretty interesting. It definitely has that AA quality feel, similar to A Plague Tale, which is quite satisfactory to me. The combat is also reminiscent of the modern God of War games. And the characters seem to be well written and acted, too. I think this could be one of those sleeper hit gems, but unfortunately it’s releasing at a time when a lot of big games and news are taking over the media outlets.

I’m a few hours into Dead Island 2 and I really like it. The graphics are outstanding, but the gameplay is a tad less inspired than Dying Light.
I also miss the horror aspect, but Condemned 1 is taking care of that for me right now.
I’ve also managed to get Richard Burns Rally to run on my Steam Deck. Never thought I would live to see the day when Linux can run pretty much any Windows game. Happy gaming!

Infinite Wealth. Easily at least a 9/10 so far. Could go up as I keep playing. Bought the King Arthur's game and I'm planning to buy like 10 more games but I'll stick to IW for now.

I bought Geometry Survivor because I am a huge Geometry Wars fan. Finished it rather quickly in a few hours but enjoyed it. Seems more like demo than a full game though.

Would've like to have seen some traditional Geometry Wars type levels/mode types in it. But their attempt to cross Geometry Wars with Vampire Survivors was good (Rogue like, upgrading between games so you can last longer).

I don’t get much time to play games during the week as I work full time, so I’m still working on the Tomb Raider Remasters. I’m still on the first one but pretty far into it. Can’t remember how much more is left but I’m loving it.

I'm going on vacation in a few days and loaded up my Steam Deck with a bunch of boomer shooters like Dusk, Amid Evil, and Dread Templar. Gave em a go to make sure they work, and yes, they all seem to run great. I'm especially a fan of being able to turn on gyro for every game through the Steam Deck interface. Game changing stuff for me as I like to be able to fine tune my aim with a bit of gyro, especially for boomer shooters.

I also loaded up Thief: The Black Parade which is a full campaign fan mod for Thief Gold. I'm 4 chapters in, and it is an incredible achievement. Highly recommended if you are into the old Thief games or other immersive sims like Dishonored. I'm blown away by the effort and passion that was put into this one. I had been playing this on my main gaming PC for the last few days, and its kindof amazing that you can basically just drag and drop PC games onto Steam Deck and it just works with minimal effort on my end.

I jumped into Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II after putting it aside for 20 years, lol. At the time I didn’t like the reuse of assets from the original, but enough time has passed (!) for me to have peace with it.

I just wasn’t getting my fill of sci-fi when playing Starfield, and now that’s been corrected.

Started Tales of Arise, the story seems intriguing but I much prefer turn based battling, hopefully I'll get used to it.

Also playing Hawked, a F2P third person extraction shooter. It's quite a fun little game that's filling an itch since there was no new content for MWZ in season 2.

Recently got all the DLC for Two Point Campus in a sale so hoping to start ripping off some virtual students this weekend too.

Somehow trying to cram all that in to 2-3 hours gaming time I get in the evening.

Well Bluey and Bingo called and got that 100% overnight… very cozy game. Got a couple of achievements in Brotato and now trying to get into Tales of Arise but the cut scenes are a bit too much and am hoping to get into more action at some point…

Once again I find myself in need of a break from chaotic platformers and violent action games and shooters. Therefore, I am spending my time this weekend on a lovely frequently overlooked little Xbox exclusive "Tell Me Why". Many people think this title was derived from a song by the Backstreet Boys apparently. I prefer to think it's a reference to a song of the same name by The Beatles, but hey, that's just me. Cheers!

I live right near where it was all filmed Pinewood studios.
Even been to the church for a christening that was used in Carry on Dick.
Also been to the cinema that was shown in Carry on at your convenience, Uxbridge high Street, it’s not there now though.
And of course walked throughout the woods near pinewood that was used so often.

I finally finished BG3 last weekend (two months and 200 hours!), and I’ve finally been playing persona 3 reload. That will take me a while, though not quite as long! I played it back in 2007, and it’s wild seeing my old friends and hearing the awesome redone soundtrack.

I will play some games i didn't play for a year or so in my back log.

Well I have finish Persona 3 Reloaded and I have to say the last months were pretty much fast-forward and skip the dialogue. I did not find the story or characters better than P5R.
Now I am playing Final Fantasy XIV after I gave up on it a couple of years ago on PC (I need to play on the couch nowadays).
Also started Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed as I was waiting for either a physical copy or a sale as I found that nearly 30€ for the season pass way too much (also kind of pissed they would not sell each part separately)

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden... doing all the haunted cases which are the best part of the game. I feel that is gonna take me a while to finish it.
I played a bit of Dead Island 2, I like what I played but I want to finish Banishers before I continue.

Did another full run through of Wildlands - so good, but I’d recommend skipping the DLC missions.

Replayed Ori and the Blind Forest. The second game is so much better in terms of design, pacing and CLARITY of visuals.

Replayed The Swapper - the puzzle game that did Soma before Soma.

Well it’s been a busy busy WAYP for sure this time ahahahaha. This weekends been full of Splatoon 3, Side Order amd lovely FFXIV. Aiming to do some more Cold Steel IV today. Definitely gonna wanna take a small break between beating it and doing Reverie. Splatoon tho is excellent and I’m loving Side Order. Think I’m gonna be playing a good amount of Splatoon 3 this week as I wanna get to Level 15 in the Catalog before the Season ends on Thursday so I can get the Sherlock Holmes looking outifit. Also think maybe if I put that nose to the grindstone this week I can knock out the rest of the Post Endwalker Patch MSQs. That too has been a absolutely excellent little mini story. Tho this is the big week of course with FFVII Rebirth. Absolutely can’t wait. Gonna try to get some digital currency so I can also get a copy of Penny’s Big Breakaway for Switch and Hi-Fi Rush for PS5. Those were some absolutely hype announcements this week. Also as a aside thanks to a absolutely humbling gift from my stepdad I got like 10 amiibos this week. He gifted me Byleth and the rest of the Splatoon set I need and I also picked up on my own a Sora amd Terry amiibo. I got that fever again hahaha. But yeah basically the gaming plans this week are simple. Beat Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future Redeemed, Get to Level 15 in Splatoon 3, and do more Side Order. Beat the Post Endwalker MSQ so I’m all set to focus on FFVII Rebirth AND I’m all set for Dawntrail this summer. And maybe dabble in some Octopath Traveler 2 and Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth. Again absolutely excellent games. Anime of the week are simple. Again much love to Shangri La Frontier, High Card, Delicious in Dungeon, Frieren and Urusei Yatsura. Big shoutout this week to a show I’m absolutely addicted to the point of watching episodes in the middle of playing Like A Dragon and that’s Shameless or as I’m starting to think of it the FFXIV of TV Shows. Podcasts this week are simple of course, Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into the Aether, Windbreaker and Firelink, RPGsites Tetracast and Summon Sign. Picked up Greedfall and DLC for about £8 on Fri and really liking the vibe in the (prologue?) docks. Much prefer the gameplay, combat and mechanics to Vampyr which I tried during the week - which hoped might give me an idea of whether I’d like Banishers. Found it too clunky, whereas Greedfall feels a lot more fluid.

I finished my first playthrough of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and I want to take a break. The game exhausted me emotionally and I can't go through the process anytime soon 😂
This weekend I'll probably switch things up and jump into Dead By Daylight for the first time in my life. I hope it isn't hard to get into!
