2025 marks the first full year of Microsoft's "This is an Xbox" campaign, in which the company attempts to convince the world that the term "Xbox" doesn't just refer to consoles anymore - it refers to anything that can play Xbox games!
These days, that encompasses a wide range of devices. PC and mobile are the obvious ones, but don't forget about handheld PCs as well like the ASUS ROG Ally, along with certain Smart TVs, Fire Sticks and even Meta Quest headsets!
So, with Xbox bringing in customers far beyond the console space this year, we're interested to know what you'll be gravitating to over the next 12 months. We're assuming the vast majority of Pure Xbox users are primarily focused on console gaming, but perhaps you've added other devices into your rotation over the past few months or years?
Whatever the case may be, come and give us your votes in the polls below, and feel free to elaborate in the comments. It'll be interesting to see how the results differ when we do this in 2026... will Microsoft's strategy go to plan?

This is either going to turn out to be completely genius, or super stupid
I do use cloud semi regularly as a 2nd player in online co-op games with my son. I do it enough to know it's not the best experience and can really suffer badly around big game releases and other things like holidays. It's really not the way. Good for having a quick look at a new game pass game sometimes before you bother downloading it.
I think my rankings are pc, series x, handheld, series s, fire stick. I have used things like meta quest, mobile, but not anywhere close to regular like the other options.
Xbox is amazing for this cross device play. I can't wait until they go further down this path. Need the full library available on all devices.
I only play my Series X. I couldn't care less about mobile gaming or gaming on a PC.
I suspect people who grew up gaming on a console will continue to do so.
As an adult with a wife, kids and full time job, there's no room or time to do other types of gaming, and when I have time to game I want it to be relaxing on my 72 inch OLED with my Series X playing these games the way they were intended, not some shrunk down 6 inch phone screen or whatever. And certainly not some laggy streaming service.
I only use my Series S. 100% of my Xbox time there.
@TheGameThrifter Same. The only other gaming device I use is my PS VR2, which is obviously connected to my PS5 console. I can’t even imagine using anything else than a console for gaming.
Series x console all the way, big screen 65” TV Dolby Atmos sound.
The only way to play Xbox games like Indy and COD etc.
I tried cloud steaming through series x UK 200mb/sec what an awful picture, the tech is a joke when on a big screen.
Even PS5 streaming spider man 2 was a lot better.
And Xbox are promoting this crap in the UK.
They really need to get back to focusing on promoting Xbox consoles look at the results at 75%. Over 50% GP subs as well.
What is wrong with Microsoft.
They are to busy thinking about tens years ahead rather than staying Xbox console relevant for now and the next ten years.
They have the studios to take it to Sony and Nintendo to a point and are throwing it all away.
Come Microsoft get a grip and love your Xbox console:
Europe November 2024:
PS5 2.1 million
Switch 537 thousand
Xbox 190 thousand
Worldwide November 2024:
PS5 4.1 million
Switch 1.7 million
Xbox 737 thousand
It doesn’t help with zero Xbox console promotion. They could have done so much with Xbox console COD and Indy promotions.
First time in probably a decade an Xbox console has sold under 1 million in the Black Friday month of November.
@Dround87 Ditto on the second player stuff. If there were more games that allowed it on 'Play your own' or regular Cloud Gaming, I'd probably play a lot more on the cloud.
Otherwise, nice big screen, XBOX Series X|S console, best way to play any game.
Since MS says everything is now an XBox, my PS5 is my most-used XBox, followed by my Switch, and then in a distant third is my Series X.
Xbox Series X|S for my 3 choices as those are the only Xbox devices, until I can play 100% of my library on any other device that isn’t branded as an Xbox this marketing stunt is just obscenely stupid.
I use my series S almost all of the time.
Occasionally I have used my chromebook to stream games via gamepass cloud service.
No idea. Given the Gamepass current line-up, my Series S may actually compete against my PS5 for the first time and I’ve had them both since launch, but with Switch 2 looming, that may beat them both if it has a compelling launch line-up, and that’s an Xbox, right?
In 2024, my most played Xbox was my 360, weirdly enough though, in the year end stats.
@somnambulance
Xbox line up is currently the most exciting this year.
But like you said all depends on that switch 2 release line up or the 2025 year games.
I don’t want to rehash my whole Play Anywhere rant in full, so I’ll just say I don’t think PC should be called an ‘Xbox’ until it can actually play all Xbox games (cross buy and cross save). Simple as that.
I’ll be playing mostly XSX I think; OLED TV and comfy sofa are hard combo to beat. All the games that don’t come to XSX (Sony bought or not) will be played on PC, as well any games locked to 30fps on console (hopefully there won’t be many of these this year).
So in this order for me:
1. Xbox Series X
2. Xbox Series X
3. Mobile with Xbox Cloud Gaming.
This is me pretty much covered and I plan to get a new Xbox device* this year, hopefully.🙂
Edit: *the Switch 2.
Gaming PC.
If I am away from my Gaming PC, I will either stream from my gaming PC using Moonlight installed on a laptop or play my Switch.
Ive transitioned over to the ROG Ally X for a majority of my gaming, but more graphically intense games like Indy and Hellblade II have been on my Series X. I dont get a lot of quality TV time, so handhelds like the ROG and Switch get lots of playtime.
If Xcloud was any good where I live then I'd use my TV or Quest but as is I'll be playing Xbox games on my PS5 or PC
If the living room TV is free I play on my Series X if it isn't or it's late at night I play on the Series S in my bedroom.
@Tasuki been thinking about adopting that setup - Series X for the living room and then get a S for the bedroom for when the living room is free. I'd just spend all my time in the bedroom on the series S then though I guess. It's that or putting a TV on the wall above the dining table which I'm leaning towards at the moment.
@OldGamer999 Depends on what games are your preference, but I agree. The depth of Xbox releases as are currently announced are super solid. Avowed, Doom, Fable, South of Midnight, and Outer Worlds 2 are ALL games I will play, which is quite fantastic to know I’d probably be able to just rely on Gamepass for the year if I was on just one platform… even if Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, and Metroid Prime 4 are the biggest games for me this year. The Gamepass hits don’t stop there though. Silksong, Atomfall, Expedition 33, the list keeps going. 2025 is an insane year for Xbox. I’m quite happy that Xbox is finally hitting the type of year we used to get in the 360 era. I was planning on reducing my spend down to maybe 15 games this year and thanks to Gamepass, I think I’ll be able to resist the urge to over-purchase games and achieve that goal without feeling like I’m missing out on interesting games. In fact, I may be able to reduce that further, given that most games I’m anticipating this year are Gamepass… though the Switch 2 is the elephant in the room… and the lack of a concrete release schedule, of course.
I'll mostly play Xbox on my Xbox series x because that is my Xbox 🤷
I play XBox games, on an XBox.
Series X, to be precise.
Why would I bother using anything else?
I still have a decent backlog of purchased games I need to get through on my Series X, so that will be where my engagement with Xbox comes from. Any gaming I do on PC will be through Steam, which is universally better than the Xbox app. I also got a Switch recently, so I'll probably be doing an increasing amount of gaming on that (all those old school games on Switch Online are calling my name).
Xcloud only via Amazon Fire stick. Not buying an Xbox if all games can be streamed or played elsewhere. Finished Hellblade 2, Black Ops 6, As Dusk Falls and Indiana Jones this way- no complaints. I will be buying a handheld PC this year (Legion Go 2 or MSI Claw 8) so that might change it a bit.
This is an Ex-box
points at a damaged pile of cardboard
This promo is never gonna work...they'd have to buy Steam, Epic, Nintendo and Sony. I miss Microsoft being the radical upstart instead of this belligerent, obnoxious lottery winner that can't spend money fast enough and wants the world's attention.
All I saw in the list of possible Xboxes were two current gen systems, 3 previous gen systems, and a whole lot of mobile crap I’d rather throw in a landfill than try to game on.
PC was also mentioned, but claiming a pc is an Xbox because it can play Xbox games is like saying one of those gargantuan military aircraft carriers is a fighter jet because you can take off from one.
Only game on my series X (& PS5) in front of my 4K TV.
I have no interest in mobile gaming or need for any other devices.
Series X for AAA, Rog ally for xCloud, indies or PS4/5 PC ports
Probably my PS5 tbh, lol.
Series X for the most part. Maybe use the Xbox app, maybe.
Series X then probably some cloud gaming on my phone when work is slow.
If Steam is an Xbox, so are playstation and Switch since you can buy and play Microsoft games on them too.
For me only Series X with a tiny bit of bedroom Series S, unless I do something drastic and upgrade my RX 580.
I split my time between my rog ally and my Xbox, which I mainly stream. I like sitting downstairs and gaming, yet I also like gaming on a handheld so this gives me the best of both worlds.
My PS5 is the best Xbox for me, PC is the second and Xbox 360 is the third.
As other long time gamers have mentioned- its hard to compete with playing Series X on 4k tv on a comfy sofa. That's my no.1.
Second Xbox 360, just for the few legacy titles I have that aren't back-compat.
Also like others, having a full time job and family negates the use of other devices, not enough time!
Will however probably pick up a Switch 2 later in the year, depending on specs and price.
It'll be my Series X once I get it back. My TV died in November, and instead of having to sell my X so I could afford a new TV, my buddy fronted me the money in exchange for the console until I can pay him back.
Solid dude, my buddy is.
The long held assumption has always been that the plural of Xbox is Xboxen
i grew up with controller in hand but that doesn’t mean i don’t like gaming on PC too (with a controller!) .
i’ll never game on a mobile device though , it’s just ..ugh. i’m out in the real world y’know 😂 & it’s also just ergonomically uncomfortable
If only it would work in more countries. Sure, i appreciate i can buy ultimate in Romania and i enjoy it a lot. but cloud play is not available yet.
@OldGamer999 i understand you care very much, but they’re still making consoles, so just game, also microsoft isn’t in any danger of shutting down, and i personally we take this console war business a bit too seriously, i understand the need for completion but we shouldn’t get too invested into it
@Cakefish you’re taking console sales too seriously, just game with you got
@donv2135 Sorry I’m a bit confused, I didn’t mention anything about console sales in my comment? Are you perhaps confusing me for someone else?
@Jackha - you’re not missing anything. As others have said, Series X + comfy sofa + big 4K TV > cloud gaming + ‘this is an Xbox’ nonsense!
Console is the only way I play
Just series x. Nothing else.
For me only XSX 💚
Mainly PC for me followed by Xcloud for streaming on my laptop and phone when I'm away from it.
I only game on my Series X (when it comes to Xbox games).
I do own a very capable gaming PC that cost me £3200, and what do I use it for? To play Jewel for the 'Play 20 minutes on a PC' daily reward points. In fact, I don't even play Jewel, I just start it up and leave it for 20 minutes. I just don't enjoy the faff involved in playing games on a PC, and much prefer the simplicity of turning on a console and it just working straight away...
My Switch, then PC, then PS5 and my Series X is I want to play a 360 game.
Main: Xbox Series X on TV.
Secondary: Retroid Pocket 5 via Remote Play.
Xbox Series X Console
@OldGamer999 november stats proven that GP itself is not enough. Even with big hit like COD. Arguably cod bo 6 was the biggest launch ever in GP. Its yet to move a needle. Without exclusive content unfortunately its not possible to shift people from platforms they use today. Any big platform/service has exclusives - even in non gaming (look at netflix or apple music).
The whole game pass sub is relevant to more or less semi-hardcore audience. Average person playes just couple of games a year and usually wants to play a specific game that could not be on a service (likes of gta, elden ring and such). And $20 for GPU is already at a point where people will question if they want it.
Pretty sure console and GP will be dead after next gen. GP prob will go ea play/ubi+ route with no day 1 games and no 3rd party content. PC-xbox hybrid will also affect GP negatively due to cheaper PC game pass and free online.
Lets see how they did in december - maybe new series x white and Indy made some action. If not then its game over in game of sales.
And long term I feel like instead of every platform being xbox => they will loose platform at all and will have minimum power on the market where PS/N/Valve will dictate the rules.
Unfortunately MS is too worried about what happens in next 10-20 years that they forgot where the xbox players are today. Cloud is too undercooked and years and years before replacing pc/consoles.
PC space is dominated by valve and not xbox. Valve could gain even more presence with steam OS.
Mobile is mobile - most of the games f2p, no one is going to pay $20/m to stream games.
I am pretty sure in next decade MS will just lose console market share whatsoever and any power while Valve/PS/N will dictate the rules. Yeah they will still make billions because they own IPs but players wont care
Asif you haven't placed an option for playstation after the everything is an Xbox ad 🤣😭
Series X, no competition. But I use cloud or remote play quite often especially in bed but also when away from home. Planning on building a new PC this year so perhaps more there too… but I said that in 2023 and 2024 and I prefer the couch and TV.
Always console, I never use the PC despite its high specs, and my life means I have no need for portable gaming unless it's another screen in the house (Portal gets used occasionally).
I tend to play and buy for PS5, but I'm back on GP and hoping that some of the great exclusives coming will see me use the series X more.
Honest, order for me:
1. PC
2. Xbox One S
3. Xbox 360 Halo Reach Limited Edition
@Decimateh PS5 doesn't technically count because Microsoft never mentioned it in their "This is an Xbox" marketing. 🤷♂️
Hello there fellow gamers.
My most played Xbox device will be my Series X Console.
It´s were I play the games that I purchase, both physical and digital and some GamePass games as well.
The second will be my PC.
I usually play GamePass games on my PC that don´t have a 60fps performance mode on Xbox. The other ones it´s either because I want to be able to play them in multiple devices or (mostly this) because I have no storage space on my Xbox 😜
I think this is the main issue I have with these "Next Gen" systems. They have very little storage and SSDs are not cheap.
Anyway, here´s to a fun year playing Xbox.
Cheers and happy gaming everyone
Xbox Series X across the board. Because it is really the only true next gen console.
Saying that, would love play some Playstation, if — and ONLY if, --a company would make an affordable, wireless, Xbox style controller for Playstation.
I've tried, but that Playstation controller is uncomfortable, difficult to use. Simply does not feel right in my hands.
@FraserG would have been interesting to see how many would have chosen it though 😂
