It's a big day for Grand Theft Auto fans, as the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of GTA V are finally available, bringing upgraded visuals, up to 60fps performance, improved loading times and a few other next-gen bonuses.
Both the story mode and GTA Online are available at half price for a limited time on Xbox, with the combined package costing £17.49 / $19.99 and the online portion costing £8.99 / $9.99 on its own, so it won't set you back too much.
- Grand Theft Auto V (Story Mode and Online) - £17.49 / $19.99
- Grand Theft Auto Online - £8.99 / $9.99
We've had a chance to check out the next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V over the past 24 hours, and we have to say, we're very happy with it. The visual differences aren't vast compared to the Xbox One version, but they're undoubtedly an upgrade, and the addition of 60 frames per-second gameplay is such a massive benefit.
But what about you? Have you bought the new version of GTA V for Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S yet? If so, how are you finding it so far? Let us know down in the polls and comments below (even if you've bought it for PS5!).

I bought it. After work I'm gonna workout, then walk the doggo, then shower and dinner. After all that, I'll start a new game on the series x, first person mode. Havent played the singleplayer since 2014.
I bought it for my Series X and playing it with 60fps is like a new experience. Overall image quality is much sharper too in both Fidelity and Performance modes.
My only gripe is that ray-tracing in Performance RT mode is either non existent or it’s been scaled back because switching between Fidelity and Performance RT I noticed the ray-tracing in Fidelity had decent reflections on glass windows but with Performance RT it’s exactly the same as Performance mode without RT 🤷🏻♂️
Haven't had a proper playthrough since the original came out so big jump for me.
Downloaded it on gamepass when it had that release but never got round to it, so happy to give it another go now!
Nope. They don't add anything I can't already get. I can fire up my original copy of GTAV on PC and get proper ray tracing via free mod. Something they didn't add to this release.
Bought it for PS5 instead as it was cheaper (£8.75) and has pretty good DualSense Support.
The 60fps definitely makes a difference. Outside of that it doesn't look much different to the XBO/PS4 versions.
@MaccaMUFC Performance RT is supposedly ray traced shadows only. Ala Cyberpunk 2077 ray trace mode.
Next thing you know, developers will be able to slap ray tracing on the box for ray traced audio lol.
Third time buying it on a Microsoft console, first time attempting to beat the story.
I like the game, but I always found it to be a bit clunky. With 60 FPS, it feels much more responsive and organic. Really going to love playing through it again this way.
Performance mode with ray tracing is a game changer. Looks good but the frame rate is the real quality of life update.
I've never played this game and I'm tempted by the new version and discount. The only entry I've played (and haven't beaten yet) is San Andreas on Game Pass.
If I could buy the story mode without the online for the same price as PlayStation I might have bought it.
If I could just buy the story mode I may have dipped in to my pockets. I feel this is would have been the way to show Rockstar that people want more single player content.
Hopefully the PS sales can show this but then it doesn't really matter because Rockstar win whatever. It's all cash for them, adding stuff to an old game that modders had already done on PC years ago.
Funny how you can purchase this from the online store for Xbox but it's locked to the ps5 console store for playstation so less people can claim the online very nice of Sony & rockstar 🙄
I'm disappointed only because they said increased traffic variety. Could've at least stuck some update cars into traffic spawns. Still the same as last gen. Only plus is 60fps on Series S but I have a bad habit of switching between graphical modes to see how fidelity looks.
I’ve downloaded GTA online...but on PS5 as it was free. Doubt I’ll get the story mode as I’ve played through it twice before. I’ve never got into GTA online so thought I’d give it a go whilst also testing the next-gen update. 60fps is very nice, though overall graphics are only marginally better imo.
Remember when people were constantly harassing and even threatening Rockstar for a remaster of this years ago?
Haven’t played this game since the original release- just curious, are folks playing this in first person mode? Seems like it would be amazing way to bump up the immersion and also great for a second play through.
Silly question maybe- but does first person mode also run in 60fps?
Last GTA game for me was San Andreas in, I believe, 2008. Will I ever buy GTA 5? Probably not, but never say never!
I got a copy for Xbox One free off an Amazon deal they had a while back. I still have yet to open it lol.
I'm probably the only person who hasn't played GTA5
