Microsoft has officially announced May 2022's Xbox Games with Gold, giving us a look at four more games we'll be able to play at no extra cost with our Gold memberships next month.
In case you missed it, the games are Xbox One titles Yoku’s Island Express and The Inner World – The Last Wind Monk, along with Xbox 360 (backwards compatible) games Hydro Thunder Hurricane and Viva Piñata Party Animals.
The first games will be made available early next week, so we want to know how you feel about next month's selection, as well as which title you're most looking forward to below. Happy with the choice on offer for May?
Let us know how you're feeling about May 2022's Xbox Games With Gold below.

2 consecutive months of repeats really ticks me off as a long time Gold member. Inner World looks neato, Yoku's a great game that I have on Switch, and then there's a party game. I'll see if there's more regional games out there.
Yoku is a really awesome game, but I have that and Party Animals. Might have Hydro Thunder too but might be a different one. Not the worst month if people haven’t played any of them; but carried by Yoku… which can be pretty cheap anyway.
Hydro Thunder is great, but I bought it about 12 years ago. Haha.
24% need to broaden their horizons. Trolololo
Yoku is kind of a perfect offering for games with gold. I would be jazzed if I didn't already own it.
I'm am very very happy this month.
Xbox has just shortened my wish list by 2 titles. With 2 others I've always fancied trying.
@FraserG might be worth adding an "Indifferent" option to these polls, I am sure I'm not the only one who feels indifferent to some months of GwG!
I know "They're OK" is the middle option but it's probably still too positive. On the other hand "I'm not happy" is a bit of a strong statement for me too lol. I am merely indifferent 😅
I have a feeling that the backwards compatible Games with Gold's days are numbered now that we are getting repeats. Two bigger Xbox One games would be better and surely the number of 360 only customers on Gold is very limited now.
Heard next month halo infinite multiplayer will be one of the games offered. Unable confirm that though.
@GuyinPA75 assuming this isn’t a joke, halo infinite’s MP is F2P for everyone eitherway. Giving it as part of gold would be like giving fortnite as part of gold.
This is definitely an improvement over previous months, but it's not so good to change my opinion that Games for Gold would be better off discontinued so that money and effort can be put elsewhere.
@darkswabber the man has a point though, given that most months they give us useless rubbish the infinite mp would fall in line nicely
looking at it like that lol
I’m very satisfied. Yoku is a game I’ve been itching to play and just haven’t gotten around to playing yet. I never played Hydro Thunder but I keep hearing great things about it in the comment sections so I’m now pretty excited to try that out. And Viva Piñata Party Animals is a neat little party game to have in case I have some buddies over and we want to try something new.
@darkswabber I should have added sarcasm. Overall I have no problem with gold games. But people hate on them so much. Thought mix little humor in.
Maybe they should do away with the gold subscription service.
Make online play free
Make gamepass the only subscription service.
it's weird to see Microsoft still doing Games with Gold. They are usually ahead of the curve, but GWG really belongs in the past.
@GuyinPA75 to be fair offering F2P games as part of the gold sub IS the next logical step. It’s like an experiment Xbox are doing on us at this point…
This is the rare time I will actually vote (and vote positive) since most months I completely ignore, but this one actually has 3 games I'll gladly claim. Party Animals is the one I'll pass on as I'm not a Viva Piñata fan and it's supposed to be horrible anyways.
A shame that it seems like people are just so used to voting that the month sucks without any thought because most months do suck. There's no way that "They're terrible" should be winning by any means this time around though. Yes, I can understand people might not have heard of the two Xbox One games, but look them up. I'm glad I did because they are both supposed to be good games. They might not be for everyone, but they are good games.
@PressR2 @Dezzy70 Trouble is, the day gold goes is the day cheap gamepass goes. I used to be a firm believer in mp not being behind a paywall… passionately declaring it a piss take when Microsoft themselves now release the exact same games on other platforms without paywalls whilst also promoting cross play with those platforms.
But I have grown and found the wisdom of having Microsoft’s greed, and treating me as a second class citizen, work for me. And you should too… now instead of throwing money away to unlock content I’ve already been asked to pay for, I save money…a lot of money, and use gold to get 2 years of gamepass for £60. I want to keep doing that. And I want you to do that too. As we deserve it for having such paywalls forced upon us for generations. Long live gold!!
Already owe Hydro Thunder Hurricane & Yoku’s Island Express (played VP) so maybe I'll check out The Inner World – The Last Wind Monk. Bought so many games during XBLA period & mostly played/owe the most Gold games. Happy for others but personally I would like an adjusted version of the Gold tier.
I think an option lacks for the question "Which Are You Most Looking Forward To?" : "None of them".
@Bleachedsmiles how do you use Gold to get 2 years of Game Pass for 60?
Got Yoku’s island express on switch a while ago and it’s amazing. If you love pinball then this is for you as it’s a pinball metroidvania and the story, while not that deep, is still pretty interesting. Especially at the end. Also the music is pretty good.
@PressR2 Gather closer child…let me spin you a tale…
Step one… make sure you don’t currently have a gamepass sub.
Step two… download a free vpn
Step three… purchase some cheap years worth of gold. I used the Turkey gold subscriptions
Step four… redeem gold subs
Step five… boot up your Xbox and purchase a months worth of gamepass ultimate
Step six… sit back with a crafty smile on your face as it automatically upgrades all the years worth of gold you had to gamepass ultimate.
The perfect crime.
@Agnostic There must be a whole bunch of gold members only otherwise it would get discontinued.
Basically that's the only explanation.
@Bleachedsmiles alright thanks for the answer I 'll try that
@PressR2 This is what I followed last year
https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/3-years-xbox-gold-game-pass-for-ps76-or-1-year-for-ps36-price-may-vary-3859509
Read through it. Suggests what free vpn to use and offers links etc. The only thing I did different was buy a months uk gamepass to convert it. I initially had the one month for £1 offer but that disappeared once I had a gold sub on my account. I wish I had gone for 3 years (the max) but hadn’t done it before and wanted to make sure I wasn’t wasting money.
Once it works for you you’ll too hope they keep gold around. And the student will become the Master. Gods speed.
I beat Yoku’s Island Express when it was on Game Pass. It's a very interesting game but I wish it had a way to track progress because the map and navigation are hard. I didn't get 100% because of that. The selection is quite fine but Hydro Thunder Hurricane is repeated. All these are freebies but it's time to get rid of the Gold brand.
Imo not one decent game so far this year and we're on month 5. Last year at least we had a few decent ones like darksiders 3 and gears 5. In the past we've had FOR Honour, AC black flag and Hitman. Recently however its all kids games and 2d platformers, something the games pass is all about at the minute as well. I'm on series X and the amount of pixelated 16bit games coming out is frustrating. Just swap games with gold for some free reward points.
