The big news of the day (and arguably the week) has been the announcement of a release date and price for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, along with a first look in the form of an official trailer and screenshots.
We know that the Definitive Edition is going to feature a wide range of enhancements, including "brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, with high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more", but it'll cost you a pretty penny, launching for £54.99 / £59.99.
That said, we also had the announcement that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas's Definitive Edition will be available at no extra charge with Xbox Game Pass when it arrives on November 11th, so subscribers won't need to spend anything extra in order to sample the collection (and arguably the best GTA game of all time).
So, with all of that in mind, where do you stand on the GTA Trilogy remaster right now? Are you getting it day one, playing San Andreas on Game Pass, or are you not convinced or interested in it at all? Let us know down below.

Big backlog and this won’t be making it to the top of the list. I have picked a policy of only paying full price for games I must play immediately after launch. Last such game was Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
Us oldies have to remember that remasters of games considered to be classics will continue to be a thing now and that's ok as why shouldn't the younger generations get to experience them? As long as it doesn't come at the cost of innovation and new IP/ideas in general. Sequels and reboots are a problem in film too but I think we can all agree there is an insane amount of choice out there nowadays, new and old. I know my backlog is essentially going to last forever at this point!
@TJ81 Personally I’m a big fan of remasters.
No one really can keep up with all the games released every generation. I’ve personally owned every console from Nintendo, SEGA, Sony and Microsoft and so I’ve always had too many games and not enough time. Nowadays the choice of games is even more unrealistic to keep up with.
It has meant that there are some real quality titles that I’ve wanted to play but haven’t gotten around to (even some I bought original copies of in preparation to play) that have now been remastered and I’ve experienced the best version of them and enjoyed them more because I wasn’t worried about blurry visuals and had quality of life improvements. So remasters are a good thing in my mind and have helped me personally enjoy games I might have never gotten around to.
Will be fun to replay but happy to wait until the price drops. I’m sure Sam Andreas will get removed after 2-3 months from gamepass like all other rockstar games have so far so will play that as soon as it launches!
With Vice City being my favorite GTA game of all time, hell yeah I am buying it.
@Tasuki
As much as I loved Vice City, this trilogy is a perfect example of do less as possible lazy remaster.
If Rockstar had some ethics, it would at least remastered to GTA IV or GTA V standards if they plan to charge 60$ for this trilogy. There are "remasters" in the modders community that blowup what Rockstar is trying to scam us.
@Kienda Excellent points - PS5 and Series X backward compatibility has also led me to experience some of the last generations best games I didn't get round to playing and at 60f fps often upscaled to 4K.
I will. But not at full price. Vice City is the only one I'll be playing so it'll be. A price drop purchase for me.
Nope. San Andreas is the only one I wanted to play so I'm more than happy it's coming to GP.
I sure am. Will play San Andreas on Game Pass then will pick up physical copy when released in December.
I'll wait for a price drop as I'm only interested in vice city, but I'll try san andreas anyways as it is on game pass.
I played the hell out of GTA3 back in the day and have fond memories of Vice city but never really played much of San Andreas so very happy to get the remaster for GP.
I wish they would do a remaster of The Getaway or start again with it
Not a chance. Won’t even download the game pass San Andreas one.
What a cash cow.
I wish most of these studios would focus on new game development.
I'm gonna play San Andreas on Gamepass, providing I like what I see and play, I'll buy the trilogy 😀
I’ll play San Andreas on GP then wait for the inevitable price drop on the physical game and pick that up later.
@Dezzy70 I agree 100%.
Different subject, must give a shout out to Argos UK managed to get a series x yesterday for a friend, picking it up at store this morning.
They seem to release stock slowly over a week or so at different times to different stores, instead of a massive release at one creating madness.
So it keep trying those that still haven’t got one.
I’m still waiting for the GTA IV and the DLC remasters!!!! They never bring it up or go down that road!!!!!
Will definitely be buying this. It's been far too long since I played 3 and VC. Don't think it will be a day one purchase though just because Forza and Halo will see me through until at least after new year.
I know some people don't like the notion of remasters but I am stoked to be able to add these to my digital collection. Would be nice to have access to the 2D originals aswell on modern consoles.
Yep I’ll be buying this, going to pre-order it next week. Going to play GTA III to completion with all achievements unlocked then move on to Vice City then San Andreas. November 11th can’t come quick enough!
Already preordered.
@Tharsman "Big backlog and this won’t be making it to the top of the list. I have picked a policy of only paying full price for games I must play immediately after launch. Last such game was Mass Effect Legendary Edition."
I'm totally with you on that, except I refrained myself to buy Mass Effect Legendary, as I know it will definitely come to the EA Play service (and so to the GPU). But I'm so, so eager to play it, especially given the case that I only did Mass Effect 1, back in the day.
As for GTA, I'll try it day one on gamepass, then I'll take my decision.
Nope, visuals look too much like the new Saints Row now with the improved visuals…
Sorry, I couldn’t help the joke.
@Bobobiwan I knew it would come to EA play, but that was a game I had waited long enough to play. I was set to play it at launch the second the remaster was announced.
Besides: I also sound EA Play as part of GamePass is not going to be a forever deal. Maybe a year. Maybe two. Hell maybe 5 but it will certainly expire sooner or later, and I wanted to not just play day one but also own the trilogy.
One thing I want to add: I see lots of people complaining about the price… and in this case I find it silly. Yes, it’s $60, but it’s 3 games! I don’t recall many complaining about the RE 4/5/6 remakes all releases at $20 individually, and those were just ports.
These GTA games seem to be quite modernized and aiming for a cartoony “Fortnitish” art style. $20 for each is a good price. Only reason I won’t buy it at launch at full price is because I won’t be playing them any time soon. If I see them on sale, I’ll snatch them, but should I feel a day I’m ready to play them, I’m getting them that day regardless if they are $60 or not.
So long they are not charging $70 for the series x versions or some dumb anti-consumer tactic like that. I oppose those in raw principle.
I won't be funding a cash cow money grabbing company like Rockstar. Shame because they used to be fantastic
@Tharsman 60 dollars is one thing but they are charging 60 quid for this over here. That's nearly 80 American dollars for a 20yo game. Money grabbing bankers(w)
Not for that price.. if it was £30 I would definitely ..maybe even £40
@Tharsman My thoughts exactly. Here in the UK, it costs the same as the Mass Effect LE. Both packages consist of three great games with considerable upgrades to their graphics and controls (if anything, I'd argue GTA has had the bigger overhaul, simply because they're older), so what are people complaining about? I suspect most of the complaints are from people who hate Rockstar anyway.
The answer is NO, but I will still play them fairly soon after release. How? Because my son has pre-ordered them, and I game share with him! He's also bought the Ultimate edition of Horizon 5, so I've done all right from him this month, whereas usually it's the other way round!
I voted yes, after a price drop. Whatever it costs, I'm not paying the full asking price.
Rockstar isn't stupid. They know that everyone's favourite GTA is Vice City. Why do you think this isn't on Game Pass or PSNow?
The original hasn't aged well and San Andreas is both too big and too of its time to be considered a classic. Yeah you can highjack a jumbo jet but the story hasn't aged well.
The 1980's satire of Vice City will never get old and Tommy Vercetti is one of gaming's greatest leading men.
San Andreas is the only on I'm interested in so I will play that on Gamepass
I'll prolly get it, but not now, and not for 60. I'll wishlist it and wait for a decent sale on them.
