It's Saturday, so that means it's time for another round of Pick One! We're well into June now, so we thought it'd be a good time to look back at a fairly hectic month in May for Xbox Game Pass, starting off with the turbulent release of Redfall before finishing with a large slate of highly-rated indie titles.
We can definitely pick out a few favourites from last month's selection - FIFA 23 was a welcome addition courtesy of EA Play, Planet of Lana proved to be a gorgeous puzzle-focused adventure, and Cassette Beasts gave us our Pokémon fix.
So, what was the best Xbox Game Pass addition in May? Remember you can only pick one!
Let's take a look at what we're working with:
What Was Your Favourite Xbox Game Pass Game In May? (682 votes)
- Redfall (May 2)

I haven't liked any additions to Gamepass since Hifi Rush and Hotwheels.
Hopefully something decent will be added during the presentation. If not, I may have to cancel.
May was a pass on Xbox for me. It had nothing to compete with Tears of the Kingdom.
Fifa by far. So nothing really. Planet of Lana got boring fast, nice setting though.
Had some real war of the world vibes early on, but just too little meaningful filling inbetween.
Pretty sad I couldn't like Eastern Exorcist, it looked really neat.
Redfall is a masterpiece....I'm joking haha.
Yeah, May has been a dud for me. Which is fine, usually GamePass always has something amazing to offer. I think Redfall was suppose to be their highlight and so they didn't want put any games on there what would detract from it, but now I bet they wish they did
PS Plus had Ratchet and Clank to carry me over to June at least. That said though, I have enjoyed Cassette Beasts on Gamepass, so not all a dud.
June I am expecting great things
Nothing for me. Which is a shame because I was really excited for Cassette Beasts. Loved the world building nor couldn’t find the mental bandwidth to enjoy it. Sadly I bounced off.
Tears of Kingdom inevitably won out with my Halo Infinite weekly taking second place.
Going to try Farworld tomorrow, so maybe that’ll be it. Otherwise, I’ve turned on Planet of Lana for like 15 minutes and it’s clearly the best thing on Gamepass since Hi-Fi Rush (which isn’t saying much, but it is saying something, I suppose), but definitely not worth pausing TotK for.
Redfall and Railway Empire 2
Played lots of FIFA since launch so voted for Planet of Lana which I enjoyed playing through.
Given Cassette Beasts a go and it is basically Pokémon but I can't really get into that type of game now.
Planet of Lana is cool, but boring. Love the companion.
Cassette Beasts is outstanding. Easily my favorite of the month though Planet of Lana and Fuga 2 are good as well.
Redfall despite its problems.
Just started playing in the second part of the island and loving it.
Still need to try planet of lana. Just haven't had the time yet.
I'm very much enjoying Planet of Lana
Put the most time in Redfall. I enjoyed the game play loop and beat the campaign. Lana is good, chicory is fun. Plenty of good titles here that I’ve enjoyed. Trackmania is my #1 release this month.
None they are all terrible to be honest
Neither. But I was playing Ni No Kuni II in May.
Says a lot about the recent months of GP when redfall is currently the 2nd best of the month. Really needs some good announcements at the showcase. Especially after a good start to the year
The last great game on GamePass was HiFi Rush. Nearly been 6 months
None, I cancelled Gamepass for now, waiting on Starfield. I know there will undoubtedly be a few decent indie additions between now and then but I can catch up with those later.
Easily Massive Chalice for me, fantastic TRPG from Double Fine.
Says a lot about people’s tastes in games when well-reviewed games like Cassette Beasts (86 on OpenCritic), Planet of Lana (81) and Fuga 2 (84) are all “terrible”. Thankfully I enjoy all kinds of good games.
I enjoyed Planet of Lana. The only game I downloaded from May.
Planet of Lana, since it was the only game I played through Game Pass.
It was nice, perfect Game Pass game.
Finished Ravenlok only last night but loved it. Simple and felt like a spiritual successor to the Alice games. Which I still feel they should make a third one
Planet of Lana was amazing, although I wish it was longer and more challenging. Really enjoyed Ravenlok, which was a nice and simple experience. But I got to give it to Chicory, stunning visuals and music, a charming world and great gameplay ideas. Didn't know a thing about it before it arrived on Game Pass.
Chicory and Surpaland are great! Ravenlok was a lot of fun. May was solid for me and June looks about what I expected pre-showcase. Hoping they shadow drop Everspace 2….
Havent played anything on gamepass for months let it lapse, although did just get 6months for free with internet deal, so might dip in to something. Was going to wait till starfield to renew, but at least thats covered.
I've been playing so much Railway Empire 2 I've legitimately woken up hours before my alarm thinking about the game. It's bizzare. That's not meant as a glowing review of the game or anything, I really enjoy it but it's not so unbelievably great that I should be dreaming of it. I think it's just the gameplay loop and playing it for hours each day created a bit of a Tetris Effect (tm).
Thankfully I beat the main campaign yesterday so I can put it up now lol.
I started Planet of Lana but I'm only a very short way in. Looks like a very fun Limbo-esque game. It has fantastic visuals. Not just the graphics and art direction which are superb but also the cinematic way they frame scenes and show off landscapes. Looking forward to getting back into it to see more.
I'm still relatively new to XBOX Gamepass so there's a ton of games on my list.
I'm a few hours into Planet of Lana and enjoying it. Downloaded NFS:Heat which I'd never played and quite enjoying that too.
