Today's the day for Commandos: Origins on Xbox Game Pass! This long-awaited sequel launches day one on the service, and ahead of launch, we've been seeing a handful of reviews going live over the past few hours.
As a reminder, Commandos: Origins is an RTS that follows on from the original Commandos games that were released back in the late '90s and early '00s, and it's available for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC.

Commandos: Origins is a great game in a genre that sorely needs one. With a difficulty that'll challenge even the most tactical minds, combined with refreshing visuals and characters that are fun to play, what you get is a satisfying,, rewarding experience that has you reloading save after save, believing the next strategy you try will be the winning one. The difficulty may cause the odd frustration here and there, and you may wish for a bit more besides a satisfying gameplay loop, but overall this is a win for the fans of RTS games out there.

Commandos: Origins puts a strict focus on stealth, and the result is slow-paced, challenging, and consistently satisfying when all your plans come together.

The problems inherent to stealth games hold back Commandos Origins, but it's still a high-stakes, high-intensity RTS where even the smallest action can feel meaningful. Meticulous, difficult, and demanding, it will test your patience as much as your tactical insight, but when you finally get it right, Commandos Origins is rewarding.

I had quite high expectations for Commandos: Origins. I wasn't disappointed in the most important aspect - it's a good stealth game, in which quietly eliminating enemies is rewarded and even desired. However, I cannot turn a blind eye to its archaisms and poor technical aspects.
As mentioned, it's still very early days for Commandos: Origins reviews right now, so there are literally only a handful to be found. The Metacritic average will take time to settle down - but we assume it'll land somewhere around the 75 mark.

Hard pass for me but I'm glad it's doing well.
another one for the backlog
I was looking foward to this but the apparent high difficulty/frustration level has put me off.
RTS games on a controller, certainly ones with a high learning curve, are abysmal. M&K is the only way to really get the best of out of these games.
This game feels like it will not get as much love being sandwiched between Avowed , Atomfall, SOM, Blue prince and Doom… at least in my hierarchy of playing time….
I played demo and really liked it. I am a fan of older commandos games.
I already predownloaded it, I'll be playing this today and will try to juggle between this and south of midnight. I love games like this. I had a blast with Desperados 3 and shadow tactics. One game I'm hoping that it comes out on Gamepass is shadow of gambit, I played the two hour "demo" and liked it as well.
Anyone played it? I’ve read some comments that there are no guns at your disposal, is this true?
