Indie publisher Annapurna Interactive dropped a lovely surprise on us during last night's Game Pass-filled showcase. The critically acclaimed story adventure, What Remains of Edith Finch, got a free Xbox Series X|S upgrade out of the blue and let us say, it's a huge leap on Microsoft's flagship console.
While we haven't had chance to check out the Series S version just yet, we thought we'd have a wander around the Finch House on Xbox Series X. Gone is the last-gen, blurry presentation running at 30 frames per-second; we're now looking at 4K and 60 FPS on Series X.
The frame rate boost isn't hugely important for such a slow-paced story-driven title, but man, that visual bump to a crisp 4K works wonders. What Remains of Edith Finch has some absolutely gorgeous environments to explore that now really shine on next-gen, especially the house interior, which now feels even moved 'lived in' than before.
We've not done too much exploring beyond a good wander around the house and its immediate surroundings, but during that time, we saw no noticeable framerate drops at all. Combined with the new visual sheen, the game really pops and to be honest, we can definitely see ourselves doing another full playthrough real soon.
Oh, and don't forget, What Remains of Edith Finch is on Xbox Game Pass, and the Series X|S upgrade applies to the Game Pass version. So, if you've not got around to this one yet, or you just fancy another tug at the heart strings, What Remains of Edith Finch on next-gen is a worthy upgrade for sure.
Let us know, will you be giving this one a go now it's been boosted by Xbox Series X?

I hope they hit 60fps on Series S. I'll be finding out when I get home later!
I played it last year, Pretty good game.. No reason for me to go back and play it though..
This was on my play later list so now seems like the perfect time.
This is a one and done game. Quite honestly no reason to go back. And I'm baffled they even bothered with this. This is what, the third release of it now?
I still have yet to really get into this game.
Even at 1080p at max settings on my Surface Book 2 Nvidia 1060 6GB, the walk up to the house drops frames into the upper 40's/low 50's.
I should just play in on my Series X since it's significantly more powerful than my laptop.
Tried to play this game when I got my series X but it felt lower than 30fps, did not manage to play. Now it is amazing
Played this on my Xbox One X at the time. Great game. I think now is the time to do a rerun on my Series X,
Fantastic game. This is a good excuse to play it again! 😀
