Today's Xbox Game Pass update brought news that another Resident Evil title is coming to the library in the form of Resident Evil 3 - and this one is for the action fans out there. While January's addition of Resident Evil 2 presented Capcom's masterful spook-filled remake to Game Pass fans, RE3 is all about slick third-person shooting built off the same tech.
In general though, that's not a bad thing per se. Yes, Resident Evil 3 felt a little disappointing after the high highs of RE2 Remake - but Resi 3 is still a really well-built remake that delivers on some of those fast-paced Resident Evil notes that latter titles in the series are known for. Basically, it's more of a traditional third-person shooter than anything else, and if you go in with those expectations you'll likely have a good time with RE3 Remake.
As we hinted at previously, this uses the same tech as Resident Evil 2 did back in 2019 - and now that both have been upgraded for Xbox Series X|S they look absolutely stunning. Big Nemesis boi all ray-traced up and ready to stalk the streets of Raccoon City? There's still a great time to be had with this one and it's now set to be one of the highlights of February's Xbox Game Pass lineup.
As the general reception around launch also noted, Resident Evil 3 is quite a bit shorter than its predecessor, in fact - it's one of the shortest mainline RE titles out there. Certain sections from the PS1 original were cut, resulting in a more streamlined affair for the remake. We'd have liked those sections to be included don't get us wrong, but it does mean that RE3 can be finished in an evening or two as a fun, frantic Xbox Game Pass blast.
So, yeah, that's about it really! At launch we were a little flat on Resi 3 but in hindsight, expectations after the arrival of Resident Evil 2 probably didn't help. RE3 is still a solid Resident Evil experience especially as a more action-oriented title and we can still recommend it on Xbox Game Pass. Just don't take Nemesis too lightly or you might not live to tell the tale!
